Ken Daniels just on Leafs Lunch, said the Domer’s skating at this moment and all signs point to a Lebda sighting on the blue line tonite.

Alas the hockey gods appear to have accepted my “nice bass” sacrifice!!! They appear to be appeased!!! But, as you all know, they are a most fickle bunch. Thinking of another sacrifice before the game—I have no more bass—- perhaps a roasted duck???
Lebda can skate, no questioning his wheels when he is healthy. Wonder if he has any lingering effects? Hopefully all is reasonably well for the former golden domer (and I never thought I would ever wish a domer well—kinda repulsive when you actually give the thought full consideration)

TIME FOR DUCK HUNTING

Voice of the Wings, Ken Kal gives his pregame thoughts to WXYT before Monday nights tilt (note: KK’s interview was before the morning skate).

Good to hear Lebda will be on the blue line. His ability to use the body and mix it up will be needed. I get the sense that the Shark thugs will be out in force looking for a reason to “FlameOut” against the Wings first line. Just to send a “message” of course.

John Niyo, on his DETNEWS blog has the following:
“Lebda practiced again today and said the ankle responded well today after yesterday’s practice, so he is cleared to play medically. The decision was essentially left up to him, and he’s “anxious to get out there.”
Meanwhile, Ron Wilson said Guerin is most likely out for tonight’s Game 6, but he’s hopeful he’ll be available for a Game 7 on Wednesday.”
Cheeky, optimistic bastard that Ron Wilson— isn’t he!! Maybe time to break out the voodoo doll!!
Lebda sounds juiced— first game back from a layoff usually recipe for a lot of jump!!!

Sharks will be hitting hard and clean, to start any melee before the game is a blowout would be suicide. Especially with the special teams record in this series.

Hey Chief,
I’m a long time reader, a big fan of your work and those who comment here. So, I have a question and some observations to make. First, what the hell is a “domer?” If that already points to my ignorance, pardon it as a consequence of youth.
Second, there is an absolutely infectious optimism in the Detroit hockey air. I’m not sure if it has become hubris yet (as I had during our 62 win season) but this series ends tonight. Guaranteed. From what the reports say about Meech, I would trust him to be on the ice, especially because he’ll always be paired with a veteran and will play a *very* simple game lest he lose his chance with the team. Lebda, however, can get overambitious and into some trouble, although his speed usually saves him.
Series over tonight. Look for Bertuzzi to have a great game—most likely no points but a solid presence and more aggressively play. Also, he’ll be a Duck killer next round, taking out Chris Pronger early and often.
catch you all for the post-game celebrations.

I think he is a really good defencemen, should bring some help to hold off the Sharks—- OnHockey.ca—-

S…understandable. The term “domer” refers to a Notre Dame grad, fan, student or NBC executive.
As for the optimism in Hockeytown…good to hear. And it’s for good reason. As I was just reminded, the Wings have won the last ten possible series-clinching games.

For some reason, I think the Wings could win this game with five defensemen. Just a gut feeling.
It would be nice for it not to be necessary. So the questions in my mind…are they better off with X percent healthy Lebda or a healthy Meech? What is X? Exactly how reliable is Lebda going to be?
Posted by Paul from Miami Beach on 05/07/07 at 05:52 PM ET
Game’s starting out like the others…they’re being dominated.

Let’s call it ‘weathering the storm’, eh?

I’d be much happier if Thornton was infected with Ebola virus right about now.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/07/07 at 08:35 PM ET
Holy shit. maybe he gets a ‘C’ now…
will that be enough to piss off Dom… I hope?

Lidstrom…that was insane. A Norris Trophy move. Amazing.

“Dominic Hasek nearly pulled a Nabakov.” ![]()
I don’t think he would like to necessarily be an eponym in the negative sense.
(PS. My code word is “believe57,” if anyone is looking for omens.)

Couldn’t agree more Baroque
Wow! Mikael Samuelsson is on fire, eh?!

(Looks like you really can stop the Grier.
HOLY CRAP! TWO FOR #37!
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 05/07/07 at 08:48 PM ET
Okay, who gave Samuelsson the high-octane Gatorade before the game? Nice shot.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/07/07 at 08:48 PM ET
Can’t claim credit, Hoser—that phrase was courtesy of the inimitable Ken Daniels.
I think I may use that at work tomorrow. I have a coworker who has a tendency to “pull a Nabakov” a couple times a week.

Good hit by Bert on Brown…he needs to do that more often.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 05/07/07 at 09:23 PM ET
Somebody needs to tell Bertuzzi to stop worrying so much about playing unselfish hockey, and skate the puck into the net himself. He’s obviously got his legs and all that back, now let’s get the attitude back. He needs to stop trying to be a playmaker in the slot - if he’s within 15 feet of the net with the puck, he had better be heading straight for it.

One period to go…
BTW, congrats Pistons on beating the Bulls again.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/07/07 at 09:52 PM ET
I can finally breathe… sheesh.
Dom stole one, and Sammy picked a fantastic time to get hot.
Posted by Hoser from Downer Peninsula, Michigan on 05/07/07 at 10:24 PM ET
That’ll do, Wings. That’ll do.
Just a note…Paul has been talking since the beginning of this series about how important experience would be. Couldn’t have been more right. The Sharks just couldn’t recover from being rattled a few times. Good call, Paul.
I just hope we get three or four days before the Ducks come calling.

My hands are killing me.
(I clench my fists when I’m tense…it keeps me from screaming at the television and then yelling at myself for being irrational.)
Odd that the series was bookended by 2-0 shutouts, and I think every other game was lost by the team that scored first.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/07/07 at 10:29 PM ET
spose that shut out is salt in John Muckler’s wound?
Posted by Hoser from Downer Peninsula, Michigan on 05/07/07 at 10:29 PM ET
The Wings are just downright tough… They walked through fire and swam with sharks. Heh, gonna make duck hunting look like childs play.

The unsung hero is Franzen. He served up Samuelsson’s goal on a silver platter - what a pass!

Paul,
I agree. That was some pass! Franzen played tough the entire game and series. Great series!
How’s held67 for a code word?

Thank goodness this didn’t go to multiple overtimes, too.
(I’m starting to wonder if subliminal messages are being encoded in the code words. Like a ouija board for the digital age!)

Look, I hate the ‘dome as much as anybody (I did a couple years hard time in SB in the 90’s, so they hold a special place of hatred in the blackest corner of my heart), but I kinda like Lebda’s game. You’re only making it more difficult for me to like his game by constantly reminding me of the ‘domer in him… knock it off, eh?!
