Leino To The Doghouse? Shocking, I Know.

I’m too lazy to find it. But somewhere I predicted we’d see this.
Mike Babcock redrew the lines, starting by benching slumping Ville Leino for tonight’s game against the Flames.
“Ville’s having a day to watch,” Babcock said. “He’s not playing hard enough here, so he’s going to watch and the other guys are going to play.”
Leino has one point in his last seven games.
“He’s getting snuffed out, not involved,” Babcock said. “If you are a scorer and you are not going to the net, you’re going to be in for a long year.”
Seems like a few of us could be in for a long year Uncle Mike. Just throwing that out there.
Love this one too. You can just feel the scorn.
Freep
Ville Leino is out tonight because “he hasn’t played hard enough here so he’s going to watch and the other guys are going to play,” coach Mike Babcock said Friday.
Uncle Mike: “Know what you’re going to do Villeeeee? You’re gonna sit in the frigging corner and you’re gonna watch your friends play. Don’t like it? FIX YOURSELF. I swear to god Ville, you’re my favorite little girl.”
Santini for you there bitches.
In North Carolina, but not for long. Will be headed further south for the week. Live Blogs should continue as scheduled. Posting may be light, but I have no idea.
Yes, I fell asleep when it was 5-2. No, I didn’t get all giddy because they tied it and got a point. No frigging way I believe a headline in this morning’s Detroit News that says, “Wings Fine With Lineup Despite Injuries.” That is an idiotic lie. Seriously…how the hell does a news outlet even consider that headline?
“Decimation Continues. Prison-Like Assault On Wings Forwards Continues.”
There, that’s better.
Read St. James this morning? Holy. Hell. It’s a frigging death watch.
They end a five-game trip general manager Ken Holland and several players have called “way worse” than opening the season 0-2 in Sweden.
But, don’t worry. The Wings are “fine with lineup despite injuries.” Idiots.
I’m out. Catching a plane. LB tonite. Let the pain continue.

His asstacular CBA isn’t even doing what it’s supposed to do. I can’t think of even one case where a team has been A) profitable and B) competitive year in and year out because of the CBA rather than in spite of it.

Players are readjusting to the system and to playing with one another.
Sounds like a sexual problem to me.

Love this quote from Babbles re: Big Rig:
As a rookie, Ericsson dazzled last year in the playoffs, but he’ struggled in his first full year, of NHL employment on a pairing with Brett Lebda.
“Lebs and him have been on the ice for some of the ugliest goals in hockey,” Babcock said.
Posted by TeamDub from The gratch. on 10/31/09 at 04:17 PM ET
So what does that say about the great coach? maybe the great players make him great? not the system….
Posted by Greg on 10/31/09 at 03:33 PM ET
Tell that to the Pens after they dumped Therrien. Your theory holds no water at all.

TeamDub
i’m glad someone linked to that comment. i came here to do the same thing. “ugliest goals in hockey” really says it all.
sign Chelli!!!!!!!
sacrifice lebda to the hockey gods. or maybe we could take lebda’s knee and wrist out and insert them into a couple of other slightly more valuable players. i was almost going to say we should take his brain and give to lils, but talk about counter productive: the brain of lebda with the wheels of lilja… uh… i’d rather have a concussion than watch that

Based on all the quotes from Babs being posted the last 3 days or so, it seems he’s not being shy about his feelings concerning the poor play of his team and is trying to motivate by embarassing or at least causing some (many) (most) (all) of the players to take a look at what we, the spectators, have been watching, how they’ve been playing, and MAN UP. Take some pride in yourselves and YOUR TEAM and start playing hockey the way you’re capable of playing this game. And staff, ‘I’m not going down with the ship myself. We got work to do and now. You’re here to coach, make adjustments and overcome the deficiencies. So let’s get it done.’
I’m liken his attitude and his approach to being vocal with the diggers.
And I really feel he is a lot wiser about this game of hockey then many of us have been giving him credit.
AND, the “X” factor? He is an EXPERT at head games. (Check his non-hockey credentials.)
We’ll either see the team respond tonight; or heads will roll before Boston on Tuesday.

Oh well. A parking cone could do as good of a job lately, aside from that goal he had last game. I hope he gets better but man he needs to tighten his play up.
Unfortunately I’ll miss the live blog and the game tonight but everyone have fun. I hope to read over a lively one tomorrow.

you just proved my point, the pens got to the finals with two different coaches because they’re a great team. Babcock was thought of as a great coach when he had a great team, now that he doesnt he should either prove he’s a great coach and make them better or it’ll just show all along what he was, better than average coach, with a great team. The penguins won despite Therrien, and once they had their opportunity to let him go, they took it.
Posted by Greg on 10/31/09 at 07:05 PM ET
The penguins won despite Therrien
How in the hell do you figure that? At the time the Pens dumped him they were not even in playoff contention. And okay, I’ll agree with you, Babcock’s not a great coach. So what does that say about Dan Bylsma? You can’t have it both ways.
Posted by calquake on 10/31/09 at 07:11 PM ET
Yipes Stripes - just saw those MTL uniforms . . . .
Posted by Trish from PalmBeachCntyFL on 10/31/09 at 07:13 PM ET
i never said bylsma a great coach, if he was he wouldn’t have been available to hire mid season. he got the most out of his team at the right time. Therrien won when he took over from Olcyk for almost the same reason bylsma did, it’s a fresh start, fresh face and new message. Maybe not even a new message but a new delivery.
Posted by Greg on 10/31/09 at 07:16 PM ET
So then I’ll guess we’ll have to wait to determine whether Babcock is a great coach. No need to condemn him now. However I get the feeling that even if the Wings make the playoffs and go deep that still won’t persuade you.
