Updated 1537: Khan(!) had a chat with Ken Holland and believed every word he said, then he printed it. Looking like a minor MCL thing.
I just spoke to Wings general manager Ken Holland, who said captain Nicklas Lidstrom will have an MRI on his right knee Wednesday. Holland called it a minor MCL sprain.
“I’d say he’ll be out a week and then we’ll reassess,’’ Holland said.“It’s one of the first times Nick has been hurt, so when you see it, it’s a concern.’‘
Lidstrom was injured six minutes into Monday’s 4-0 victory in Colorado on a hit from Ian Laperriere, who checked Lidstrom into the glass and drove a forearm/elbow into the defenseman’s chin.
“Our first concern was his head, which appears to be OK,’’ Holland said.
Not to sound too stressed or anything, because apparently worrying about Nick Lidstrom is somehow hubristic (made it up, kinda. Thanks). But you’ve got around 24 hours to wonder just how bad the knee is.
Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom will have his injured right knee re-examined on Wednesday morning before meeting with team physicians to discuss any prognosis.
“The knee feels sore and a little bit swollen,” Lidstrom told DetroitRedWings.com. “I’ll have an MRI in the morning.”
“I have a pretty good mark on my chin where he hit me,” said Lidstrom, a five-time Norris Trophy winner. “Whether he tried to or not, I don’t know, but he followed through and finished with his elbow up on my chin and that’s when my head went back into the glass.”
Thanks to A2Y reader #5, SYF, for the pointer.

osrt:
That is why Babcock sent Downey back out, and why he was irate on the bench.

It’s the second time in his whole career with the Wings Lidstrom had a concussion. He missed a few games in his second or third year due to a concussion, I believe.
It was clear that Lidstrom had his head up and anticipated the hit but not the inside of his knee getting smashed nor an elbow to his skull.

Lidstrom took a elbow during that hit. Why in the hell didn’t Versus report on that. Not once did they mention the elbow getting up to the head. Ian got the snot beat out of him not only once but twice. Too bad these teams don’t play again this season I would like to see Downey pound his butt one more time….

I think something is up. Only the diggers are reporting. Detroitredwings.com (leaked the story as an exclusive) and we all know how often they report “news”. Also all the reports are coming from the organization and lidstrom has been hidden away from the camera.
We will find out next tuesday just how bad it really was.

I never cared much for Ian Laperriere, but after what he did to Lidas last night, I like him a lot more.
BTW, the guy who wrote that last article, Bill Roose, he and I went to college together. He went to Michigan in his 40s (we were both recruited into the program because we were working as sports writers at the time, and they were trying to build up a sports journalism program there) and said that he wanted to get his degree so he could coach high school football.
Sounded really odd to me. Working as a sports writer for the Freep and Oakland Press, and he wants to get a college degree from the University of Michigan so he could coach high school football?
Took nuts to go back to school and get his degree at 40+ though, I give him credit for that.

Thommy… spreadsheet yet?

‘Slinger, that’s pronounced “spreadcheeks.”
You know, the can and all.
How have you been, Thhhhommy? The Nordilanche are primed for a deep run this Spring, eh?

Thhhommy. You should have told us you were a sports writer. Now that I’m aware of that, I’m ready to offer you a permanent job right here at A2Y. Just get that draft analysis book report ready, you know…the one from 2003, and we can start with that as your first post.
Just let me know when it’s ready and we’ll post the whole thing here. Oh, and don’t forget, we’re ready to throw in some bucks for your buddy Garcia’s bail money.

Thhhommy? I won’t even pretend to know what that’s supposed to mean.
Book report? You still haven’t come up with anything better than that?
What else should I expect from uneducated white trash from the Detroit suburbs? You pretty much had to disgrace the uniform. What else were you going to do? Not bright enough to work in the factories (which is saying something), so you took the only thing you could get. And when confronted by someone who has actually accomplished something in their life, you do the only thing you know how to do - you act like trash and make juvenile attempts to belittle them in front of your pathetic little harem of *#$%@&.
The funny thing is that your slappies are even dumber than you are. They’d have to be to follow such a pathetic piece of trash like yourself.
Oh, and yeah, the Avs are *#$%@& this year. We need a coach and an overhaul. Thing is, you vermin are *#$%@& too. You just can’t see it yet.
Remember Willy, don’t ask, don’t tell. Your wife is screwing around on you, but the dude she’s boning can’t take care of her. Keep it quiet for her sake.

Thommy really gets off on this. Don’t you get bored of sitting around in you own feces perpetually feeding your conflict-fetish?

Lo, the prodigal son returns!
He didn’t realize nobody wanted him around in the first place.
Strange that you don’t realize what ‘Thhhhooommmyyy’ and ‘Book Report’ or ‘Spreadsheet’ mean, because I could find mamy references to them using the search facility, as could anyone who visits this site. Thomas, I suggest you either make this in-depth draft analysis available somewhere—you’ve had the possibilities ennumerated to you, and several of them are free and don’t involve having to interact with anyone you don’t like—or else just stop posting here. Because frankly, you’re only embarassing yourself and making yourself look foolish. Put up or shut up, friend.
Of course, if your mission here is strictly to be an irritant and a troll, continue posting away. But don’t pretend your presence here is anything other than an excuse to draw negative attention, which you seem to enjoy. You have the choice here, and if you’re just going to continue to make an ass of yourself, it’ll be pretty obvious to everyone who you really are and why you’re really here.
I for one will take the opportunity to ignore you. I don’t expect that I’ll be the only one to do so.

Regarding Lidstrom, they’re obviously keeping stumm to retain a somewhat less tenuous bargaining position in Naples, but I suspect the top-four defenseman that many people wanted may be on his way. I just hope the price is right, or at least that he comes with an extension.
I have to wonder if it’s head more than knee. And we get strung along, then after the deadline we hear that he’ll be out longer, the excuse given not to rush him back, when in reality we’re looking at a concussion which dictates time off. I don’t think they’re legally required to report it if he does have one.
Of course, that’s the worst-case scenario, but that’s the best excuse for me to drink.

Thom can post all he wants. It doesn’t bother me.
I do find it funny that an Avs fan, of all people, is commenting on the futility of the Wings. At the very least it could be a Duckie, or even an Oilers fan! You know… a fan of a team that’s beaten the Wings lately.
