Game is meaningless….. so Babs figured only the 19 would be watching, might as well use the playoff secret weapon….Cheli on the grind line.

That’s like using Downey as your netminder.

“The Production Line” 2009 version:
Derek Meech-Kirk Maltby-Chris Chelios. Their production, is to go out on the ice for 45 seconds and not give up a goal against.
Watch out NHL.

Yes, but if he’s offered a Kevin Lowe-ian sheet and doesn’t sign it, he gives the team remarkable leverage.

And any other GM in the league might take advantage of that. I don’t see Kenny doing anything other than what’s fair though.

Holy shit, Ford must really, REALLY be desparate.
They’ll make your payments for you for up to 12 months if you lose your job? Isn’t it those type of deals that got them in the hot water they’re in, in the first place?

I don’t think they’re the only ones doing that. But because it’s all insured, I think it’s a brilliant step. Ford will be the last man standing in Detroit.

I bought a Drunk Translation Machine at Wal Mart last week. It comes in handy for Murph’s in-between period rants.
“d’mish” = diminish
“noth’n asyake” = nothing at stake
“is veryu’erving” = It’s very un-nerving
“ahhhahhhuseta” = That he’s used to
“Fill’pla is ha…” = undecipherable

True, but I don’t think it would be any more leverage than what the team already has over him: a winning atmosphere, Cup Winning possibilities, a coach that has made him into a complete NHL player etc etc.

I hope so Gabe. Lord knows Detorit’s already been hit extremely hard, and to a lesser degree has my old stomping grounds of southwestern Ontario.
I just wonder who the insurer is though. Hopefully not AIG.

Didn’t even notice that Draper is out until I checked Malik’s site. No wonder Cheli is up.
Posted by Osrt on 04/11/09 at 02:57 PM ET
Good point, Osrt. Last year with Flip was a perfect example. They went to arbitration because they were close on numbers, but could never get to the 100% solution. Meanwhile, Flip didn’t entertain any offer sheets by other clubs and he very well could have.

Good interview with Tick Tock. Ken asked about all the major topics and it looks like Holland is happy enough with Howard’s progress to have him as a back up next year.
I really don’t want to lose CuddlyHuddles.

Posted by Jeff - - OklahomaWingNut from Wind-Swept-Plains on 04/11/09 at 04:06 PM ET
I wonder how low that has to be. I’m guessing around a $5 million hit. I think I had a possibility that wasn’t an insult to the Big Hoss, and got his hit low.
$8 million x4 years= $32 million
+$5 million x2 years= $42 million
+$3 million x1 year= $45 million
+$2 million x2 years= $49 million
+ $1 million x1 year= $50 million
Total term= 10 years, $50 million. Cap Hit= $5 million.
Hoss gets his pay day for the next four years, and his contract diminishes as he nears 40, to lower the cap hit.
I think that’d be fairly reasonable.

I have 80, like I said, so yeah I have jerseys from teams I don’t like. My goal is to have a jersey from every team in the league.
Posted by Chris in Hockey Hell from COLUMBIA, TENNESSEE on 04/11/09 at 03:05 PM ET
Nice. I’ve got 50+ myself and while ideally I’d like to get one of every team in the league, there are three I’m purposefully absent of: New Jersey, St. Louis and Colorado.
If I could get the christmas colored NJ, I’d be OK with that. STL? Someday, but it’s not a pressing matter. The Dive? Never. Ever. Ever. Neever. Never-nev. Nevenvon.
