Live From Columbus

Danny Gare just told us Nationwide is jam packed, the largest crowd since they opened the place.  BJs coming off a shutout of Minnesota last night.  Wings with their rightful starter back in net.  Live blog here if you so choose.

I’m game for a liveblog, but you will have to excuse the absence of Dylan Quotes as it kind of complicates things

I’ll try to persevere without the dylan quotes gramps.  Downey gave up some size to Shelley there, but seemed to do alright.

That Downey-Shelley dance…

They need a new Choreographer

Ahhhh…Theodore beaten glove side.  Dive/Flame on HDNet.

Back in Columbus..Samuelsson looks like he has some jump.  I see a hot streak coming on.

An all-swede line as Babcock has played Zetterberg with Sam and Franzen a couple shifts.

Fast period, refs are letting them play.

1 from Kroner beat on the boards and the other…well…I did mention the full moon

I can’t watch or listen to the game but can occasionally check in here. Why are they up on us? How does Ozzie look?

SRT: one defensive lapse (Lilja…could have been Kronwall) then a deep one from about forty feet that may have been deflected.  Good, fast paced game.  Quite a bit of hitting.  Girl fight early on between Downey and Shelley.

It was Kronwall, The Mick nailed it and replayed it right away.

The second one was almost definitely deflected.  It was low to the ice and hit a stick of one of the Blue Jackets (two of them were right next to each other) and shot up into the top corner.

Ottawa looks decent against the Flyers (on Hockey Night in Canada), and that’s the game I’m mostly following.

They just showed the highlights of the Toronto game.  Down 4-1 to Phoenix after one period (each goalie let in two, so it appears they are sharing the duties in net well).

Not sure if you guys watching on FSN Detroit have seen the replays of the BJ PP and the minute that followed.  It appears on this end, without seeing the replays yet, that Osgood made four straight saves that were unfriggingbelievable.

I don’t see it happening, based on the pace of this game and the way Columbus is outplaying us, but if the Wings do win…those three minutes will be something to remember.

Ozzie is playing terrific and lucky.
It is a good thing because the Wings are losing too many battles on the boards.

Homer on the PP, great they are back in and now Datsyuk just tied it with a 50 footer.

Monty Babcock’s Flying Circus…together for 3 seconds, finally…and it’s in.  Wonder how long Uncle Mike will keep them apart tonite.  And Datsyuk 3 seconds later.  Yeah…keep ‘em together.

There is a great highlight reel, look for it on uTube tomorrow.  Mick is happier than a kid with a new toy.

I tell ya Gramps. I think Little Gary must be out of the continent or something.  This is not the NHL we’ve come to know.

It’s really odd switching back and forth between the Eastern and Western conf. games.  I’m starting to wonder if the Eastern conf. rules actually prohibit defense.

There is a lot of open ice in the Ottawa game.

I’m having trouble finding the home keys to type this sentence, but I’ll try:  amazing defensive play by Lilja.  Wow. That was hard.  So’s this: draper loses two faceoffs in his own end on a 3-5?  Don’t see that happen much.

Right IWO, completely opposite of the penalty carnival I wrote about tonight.  This game is great, Real sorry I have to watch the end on tape.

Baroque: That is typical of the E/Conf, All Dazzle and weak on the boards.  Can I call you for a wrap-up after my nonhockey family leaves.

@ Todd:
That would be fine.  I’m back from a couple days of holiday family duties myself, so it’s nice to have some quiet again.

Nice to see the brothers and sisters, too.  Although I really don’t have the energy to keep up with a two-and-a-half year old for very long.  Especially since he’s decided I’m the aunt designated to run after him up and down the hallway and play legos and catch with him.  He’s a sweetie, but exhausting.

Although I am a little puzzled where the Dylan stuff came from.  I must have missed that memo.  smile

Baroque, I may have strayed slightly off topic a few days ago and given Mr. Dylan a much deserved poor critique.  Frankly, he’s the most overrated singer in history.

This game is one that would attract the fence sitters. Fast paced, lots of shots, great goaltending, plenty of hitting.  Two fights.  Good stuff.

I don’t know Dylan enough to have a strong opinion one way or the other.  I think I’ve seen more parodies than actual footage of him.

And stray as far off topic as you want: your blog, your rules.  Anyone who doesn’t like it can start their own.

Besides, digression is the soul of wit.  And if there’s one thing this world needs, it’s more wit.  smile

Amazing game.  So good that I almost didn’t mind hearing the Columbus crowd go nuts after the game winner.

Grrrr…..

Shootouts are a stupid way to decide winners and losers.

(And I think that when a team I root for wins, too.)

Stoo-pid.  :(

I was in the arena and didn’t mind.  Great game overall.  Wings probably didn’t entirely deserve the point they got, they got their asses kicked along the boards and threw away their five-on-three.

Tonights game was exciting.  The tenders made it interesting.  They were outstanding, but Detroit just came up short.

Drake and Downey looked good tonight.  Seemed like the Hanson brothers (minus one) were on the ice whenever they had a shift.

Surprisingly, this is the first game in quite some time that I’d attribute to coaching. Babs breaks up the big line, team generates no offense until they get back together. Even that second line looked better after Z moved up to the top line. I really think they were getting some chemistry going and breaking them up essentially started the process over.

Hopefully, he’ll go back to it because it seemed clear to me that the second line was finally starting to work well together, so you know they’ll eventually break out on the scoresheet.
