Lotsa Talking In The Wild West

In my opinion? Exactly one team has any room to do any bit of talking right about now.  And that would be your Stanley Cup MF’ing Champions.  Anybody else?  You need to just stay quiet until spoken to.  Or win a series then peep a little.

But now?  No sir.  No you don’t.

But they are. You see.  In Chicago and in Nashville, Anaheim and even St. Louis.  Whoa…kinda sounds like a Seger tune.

“They’re yappin out in Nashville, yappin’ in Moline
On the blue blood streets of Boston
Up in Berkeley and out in Queens
And it went on yesterday and its going on tonight
Somewhere there’s somebody who should just keep their frigging traps shut until they win something”

Took some liberties with that Bob. Hope you don’t mind.

Let’s head out to San Jose where hockey doesn’t matter but Drew Remindmetotellyouaboutmynewpastelpantsuit is all atwitter about his boys not getting the respect they “deserve.”
Sharks…Officially

You know what puzzles me? All this “whoa you don’t want to play St. Louis (or Calgary or Anaheim or insert whatever team) in the first round” talk. What about… You don’t want to play the First place since the start of the year, 53 wins and counting NHL Leading San Jose friggin Sharks. I hope there are teams out there that are thinking yeah we really want to play them. We really want to play a team that has a Superstar centre that can dominate games. A Captain having a career year. A puck moving cool as ice smooth skating D-Man. 4 defenceman with 30+ assists. A goalie that is one of the best in the game a team that has the best second line in hockey-a kick ass powerplay and a stingy penalty kill. Doesn’t that sound like fun? I’d just like the “experts” to recognize the Sharks are like Joe Thornton said” the best team in hockey”.

You know what puzzles me Andy Rooney?  This: year after year, the Sharks don’t do jack squat in the playoffs despite some awesome talent, yet you whine.

I’d just like the “experts” to recognize the Sharks are like Joe Thornton said ”the best team in hockey”.

I’m no expert, but I’ll tell you this: the Sharks are not the best team in hockey and you whine a bit too much. Coming from me?  That says a lot so take it onboard.

I can literally see Remembertobringhomethatsisterhoodofthepantsflickfromblockbustertonite almost in tears typing that manifesto.  That puncuation-less stream of consciousness sobbing, soiled, litany of victimization and martyrdom.  You want your heroes to gain some respect Drew?  Beg them in choking and tearful pleas to just have any sort of impact in the postseason.  Then? Maybe then a little respect will head out west.

And just for the record, here are the teams I feel are greater threats to my happiness then Drew’s band of icons and legends:  Anaheim, Columbus, St. Louis, Chicago, Calgary.

One reason: Nabokov, the west coast Wing bitch.

Hey. Before we move on a quick check of the standings shows me Denver’s been officially eliminated from playoff contention.  Gary’s office finally responded and told me there is no way the Dive can pick up 21 points in three games.  Oh well.

Oh, they’re yappin’ down in Nashville.  With the game of their season looming tonite in Detroit, Bubba’s not skeered of nothin

In many past seasons, a must-win game for the Predators in Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena would have been akin to a death sentence.

After all, they won just six times in their first 30 regular-season trips to Motown and went 0-for-6 in the playoffs there.

But as the Predators look to bolster their postseason hopes tonight in Detroit, they have more reason to feel better about themselves in comparison to the Red Wings.

Now, granted, that’s John Glennon talking there. And John’s been covering Bubba throughout the team’s illustrious history, I believe.  So he’s dealt with lotsa Detroit-doled disappointment.  Ol’ John’s probably speaking a bit out of turn there.  But I’d caution him about something. Saying Bubba’s confident is one thing, but let’s hold off on the “comparison to the Red Wings” thing.

You don’t compare Johnny.  You just don’t.  For many, many reasons.  It’s just not logical.

Tonite?  This game, while not life or death for the Wings like it is for Bubba….like it always is for Bubba this time of year…is an important one for Detroit. Oh, not for the President’s Trophy.  That’s not a realistic goal anymore and plus, it doesn’t really matter because Remindmetobuffmyhead’s boys will be gone well before the WCF anyway.

But (woops…started a sentence with “but”) it is critical that the Wings maintain this little, this very little, roll they’re on.  More for our psyche than anything.  We are a brittle group right now, you and I.  I’m in that pre-playoff manic mode where I can’t be held responsible for a single thing I write.  I’m losing it and I’m fully aware of that.  So, any dropoff, any weak goal, the slightest injury…is going to push me right into the Hasek and right up to the bar, on top of it, with a funnel, like Frank The Tank.

So tonite’s game is important to us, but not nearly as important as it is to Bubba.  And for that reason, and because of the 8-0 thing that still stings, I’d like to see the Wings lay waste to little brother in the most horrific way possible.  Crush their hopes tonite and remind them that there are now four better teams in the Central, just three short years after Bubba was actually contending for the division title.

But the chatter doesn’t end there. Oh no. You know they’re babbling in St. Lose.  You just know they are. But before we show you specifics, do you ever get the feeling newspaper publishers cringe every time their web editors suggest some sort of automated deal that lets comments show up without any quality control check?  Nah, I’m sure everyone’s fine with it.  Take a close look at the web edition of today’s St. Louis Post Dispatch Sports section.

Fun for the whole family, eh?  Those traditional print newspapermen must be so proud.

Now, the babble from the teams who haven’t been there?  You can’t help but understand it.  And, honestly, it’s fun to see it in SL, in Columbus and in Chicago.  The Blues?  Well, tomorrow’s going to be a nuthouse, it would appear.

Post Dispatch

Depending on what Nashville does tonight in Detroit and/or Friday at Minnesota, it’s possible for the Blues to clinch a playoff spot Friday night, when Columbus visits Scottrade Center. And madness could ensue should the Blues get it done before a revved-up home crowd.

“The arena has been jumping,” Davidson said. “I’ve never seen Scottrade like this. I’ll put the atmosphere right up there with any in the league right now. The fans should know how they energize the players. What the fans are doing can propel the team, and propel the players.”

Prediction:  Blues get the 8 seed?  All that “not getting out of the second round” talk I’ve been throwing around about the Sharks? Make that the first round.  Blues in 6.

Live Blog tonite?  Oh, alright.  More later? Maybe. Not sure.  I’m on vacation and the boat is beckoning.  Plus, as Frank would say, my lips are so cold.
