McLennan, Lebda

The NHL has suspended Jamie McLennan 5 games. Whatever. Of larger concern is the condition of Brett Lebda, who appears to be out for tonite…at least.
Wings defenseman Brett Lebda (concussion, knee?) skated briefly, for a couple of minutes, Sunday morning at the Saddledome. He left the ice limping noticeably. There is no official word from the Wings, but it’s highly unlikely Lebda will play in Game 6 tonight. Kyle Quincey was recalled from Grand Rapids and was scheduled to fly in from Winnipeg, where the Griffins played Saturday night.
Khan(!) also mentions a few comments from Dominik Hasek and his view of last night’s events in Hockeytown.
The always entertaining Hasek then proceeded to blast Calgary for its goon tactics late in the game, calling it an embarrassment to hockey. He blamed Flames captain Jarome Iginla for not only failing to keep his team in control but also joining in the cheap stuff, with his cross-checks to Mathieu Schneider’s hip.
Woops. Hasek said the NBA-like performance of Calgary’s “captain” was an embarrassment to hockey. Hmmm…I guess that means Hasek’s a San Diego native, or perhaps from Toledo?
Back to what matters and that’s Lebda. Kyle Quincey in the definition of hostile territory tonite? Trouble.

No, Gabriel: If you sucker punch an American player on an American team, it is just “Part of the game”. But if you get pushed by the Canadian team’s D into their goalie, it is YOU who caused the interference. Tell me: What is the difference between Tootoo’s punch and Langkow’s punch? I bet Ken Holland is as outraged as I am.

Oh-Oh! I know! (raises hand)
Tootoo was standing up, and Langkow was in a prone position. Do I get a gold star?
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 04/22/07 at 03:00 PM ET
Actually there is a diference, w2j2. Tootoo was a very small role player on his team, and a liability at that. Plus it was a regular season game. He made it easy on the league. Langkow is a top line center, leads his team in goals in this postseason, and is second to only Iginla in TOI for forwards. It’s apparently okay to uppercut an injured player as long as you put up some decent numbers on the scoresheet.
I’m seriously beginning to dislike Colin Campbell.

Doesn’t surprise me about what the NHL did today. A sucker punch is a sucker punch and they’ve come down hard on it before they should have today! I’m sure HOLLAND is furious. For some reason we may never know, Bettman and Co. doesn’t want to ruffle the Fizzles feathers any more the 100k to the Suites will. Will the Fizzle Suits take that 100k out on the players for embarrasing them on National Television???? That we’ll never know, but I hope the reason Iginla wasn’t available to the media after the morning skate was because he had gotten his butt chewed by Sutter and Co. for his un-captain like behavior. Yep he doesn’t deserve a “capital C” let alone to wear that letter. GO WINGS! 20 minutes at a time, ONE GAME AT A TIME!!!!!

Poor Iggy, being captain of a team that lost their last 4 regular season games and backed into the playoffs must be tough.

I read that Lebda skated, but limped off the ice…and is suffering from headaches. Maybe we’ll see him some time in the next round.

SEE?! SEE?! I told you all Lang was going to have an impact on this series. But noooooo you wouldn’t listen to me. “Sit Lang” “Lang sucks” “Lang hasn’t done ****” is all I heard, and none of you would listen to me.

TeamDub: as usual, you said it before I could type it.

Before the game they were talking about the effect of Calgary’s altitude on the game. Maybe the thinner air provided less resistance to Lang’s skating.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 04/22/07 at 09:42 PM ET
Less wind resistance + fabulous swarthy hair = clutch goal?
Wow, I need to quit drinking.
Good to see you Chief, Paul, Gabe… where’s the Homie from Oklahomie?
Posted by TeamDub from Toledo on 04/22/07 at 09:48 PM ET
I have to say, Lilja has been a pleasant surprise thus far… he looks pretty damn solid 79.3% of the time.
Wow, they’ve really swallowed the whistles, eh? Hold/interference city… sheesh.

And wowie wow wow, that is one fugly tie Babblecock.

“Maybe the thinner air provided less resistance to Lang’s skating.”
LMFAO
I figured his head would be swelled more than usual.
Lilja has been fantastic. I’m keep wanting to ask “who are you and what have you done with Andres?”
oh, and it’s been a surprisingly clean game, although the penalty on Holmstrom earlier in the game was a steaming pile of horse….

...poop.
You had to know they were going to “send a message” regarding goalie contact.
I’m calling Homer with the GWG.
Posted by TeamDub from Toledo on 04/22/07 at 10:08 PM ET
Nice of you to take break from blowing pucks 3 feet over the net to board someone Sammy.
He. Rocks.
Posted by TeamDub from Toledo on 04/22/07 at 10:10 PM ET
Nah. Lang with the hat trick (one empty netter).
Posted by Paul on 04/22/07 at 10:10 PM ET
I’d take that Paul, no problem.
Although I would have to spend several hours dissembling #20 voodoo dolls.

Damn, I’ve gotta stop drinking. First time I read that I thought it said naked, not miked.

An aside…
Every once and a while I look at Markov (strictly look-wise) and get shades of #16 and what could have been.
Vladdy was freaking amazing.

I find it interesting no one seems to care that Lebda clipped Langkow - basically trying to injure Langkow. There’s no other reason to drop to the ice as as your checking someone, unless you’re aiming for his knees - as Lebda was. Not that I’m condoning the punch, but I understand the frustration of Langkow. Typical Red Wing thuggery

OK, I was wrong about the Lang irony…thankfully.
But the series did end on an ironic note. Saturday Franzen takes a goal stick in the gut…Sunday he wins the series.
Bring on….?
Everybody get out their voodoo dolls and root for Dallas tomorrow night.

LOL
There is every reason to bend over and skate into a guy. It’s called a hip check. Watch some pre-1990 hockey and maybe you’ll “get it.”
Posted by Paul on 04/22/07 at 11:49 PM ET
BTW, apparently they took Homer to the hospital. When I watched the replay you could see his forehead split open instantly…but it sounds like the stick grazed his eye, too.
Game 1, Round 2….

Maybe somebody can paint his helmet like a pirate hat.

Not surprisingly, TSN’s reporting Lebda’s not in today. I’m flat out stunned that there hasn’t been any kind of repercussion against Langkow. I guess if you’re going to throw a sucker punch, you had better at least break the guy’s neck if you want to get noticed by this league.
