Mirtle: Hossa a Hawk

Kopecky a Hawk too, and this is interesting from Kevin Allen,

With Hossa signed with Chi 4 12 yrs, I have ‘Hawks at $34 mill for 8 players in 10-11 with no Kane, Toews, Keith

From Elliot Friedman’s Twitter account,

Pierre LeBrun (the real one) reports it is 12 years, $5.2 million per season for Hossa.

Via TSN, then James Mirtle.  No word on money or term.

And so, I’m thinking the rivalry with Chicago?  Just got a bit more intense.

+1

That’s one of the few teams he could’ve signed with that will force me to not cheer for him.

But yeah, Datsyuk or Zetterberg will make him wish he was making $2M on the Wings…

Good move for Chicago though, assuming it’s short term, as he’s not injury prone like Havlat.

I’ve got no problem with this. Huge-term contracts for Franzen and Hank are enough long-term risks. Good for Hossa. Hopefully he stays cursed and we beat the Hawks for the foreseeable future.

But yeah ... I have no problem at all with this. There’s lots of talent to replace him and this makes less of a mess of our long-term cap situation.

So no, Big Rich, I don’t mind at all. I wish him luck, just not against us.

You keep hatin’ though!

Not for me. But I’ll be surprised if its another short deal. I just don’t understand the thinking in Chicago. Hossa is not what will push them over the top. I figured with Senior cheapskate gone and Scotty in the ranks they’d have some brains.

Yea. Will all the classy Detroit fans cheer him as a Blackhawk? Welcome to our world, circa July 2008

No, I won’t.  Because he’s now a division rival, he’s not in the other conference.  If he was?  Absolutely.

But am I going to cry for a year, even after we beat the Hawks in the playoffs in 11 months or so?  No.  Probably not.

Suck it, you whiny bitch!

I know he’s going to get booed in the Joe.  There’s nothing I’ll be able to do about that.  The terms of the contract are actually comforting to me.  Hossa said he wanted to play for a contender and he wanted a long term deal.  He has both with what Chicago gave him and for more money than we could offer.

This is absolutely not the same situation as when he left in Pittsburgh.  I’m not going to like watching him as a Blackhawk and I expect I’ll say mean things about him during liveblogs this upcoming year, but they’ll be no worse than I say about any other member of another team.

You’d think they’d want to sign some sort of skater that can shoot from the blueline and stop opposing players from running riot in their own zone…you know, some sort of defense-man—do they make those?

Really? I thought you were busy posting on a Red Wings blog.

Sounds like the difference between the Wings and the Hawks offer would be around $20 million. Which is a big freaking difference. Still don’t see how they think they can keep Kane, Toews and Keith, though.

Whatever. We keep Pav, Z, Mule, Wally, Lidas, etc. etc. In Kenny we trust.

Great work by Tallon f’ing up their cap to the point that they are going to lose at least one (and probably two ro three) of their young players.

Hossa to Chicago.
Man, never saw that coming.

Best wshes, Hoss. Thanks for your efforts.

Time to suck it up and move on.
The Detroit Red Wings are STILL the best professeional hockey organization, top to bottom. We will keep our heads held high as the task before us turns into a plan to succeed. And that plan is carefully, analytically, masterfully being developed by Tick Tock, Uncle Mike, ... you know the men we trust. Be assured they will place the best team possible on the ice for the ‘09-’10 season!
Is it October yet?

GO WINGS!!!

Red Wings fans are now experiencing what we felt a year ago.

Really?  Because I haven’t seen anyone crying here or calling him names because he “promised” to sign with us.

But yeah, exact same thing.

I’m 100% cool with this.  I would’ve liked it more if he’d signed in the east so I could cheer for him, because I like him, but this contract, as other have said, could screw them over when it comes to re-signing Kane. Toews, etc and a contract like this would’ve done that to Detroit this year, and maybe more if the cap ends up going down at any point.

And I’d feel worse about it if he performed this year like he performed last year in the playoffs, but I’m not worrying about a guy who loses his heart and is so easily spooked by playing against his old team.

All he is is one less “threat” that we have to worry about against Chicago in the playoffs.

I was never sold on Snuggle Bear Hossa in the first place so I’m fairly ambivalent about him leaving.

I tried to explain the signs that told me was a gutless, no character POS and I think my interpretation has been proven.

The karmic outcome of this remains to be seen. You will know the hockey gods really hate Detroit if he plays as a physical force and crashes the net in next year’s playoffs.

Too bad Kocur’s long gone from the roster.
