Mirtle: Hossa a Hawk

Kopecky a Hawk too, and this is interesting from Kevin Allen,

With Hossa signed with Chi 4 12 yrs, I have ‘Hawks at $34 mill for 8 players in 10-11 with no Kane, Toews, Keith

From Elliot Friedman’s Twitter account,

Pierre LeBrun (the real one) reports it is 12 years, $5.2 million per season for Hossa.

Via TSN, then James Mirtle.  No word on money or term.

And so, I’m thinking the rivalry with Chicago?  Just got a bit more intense.

Oh and while Getzlaf is a very skilled player, I’m not a fan, he certainly seems to be a Duck through and through….

How about Sundin?  The drama in going from Toronto to Detroit may have been circumvented with a stint in Vancouver.  The motivation in winning a cup for the big Swede may hold value.

Just throwing it out there.

Does anybody else think tic tock is shopping for a d-man rather than a forward? Personally, I think Lil’s career is over; he’s still having headaches 4-5 months after the injury. We need defensive depth.

Anybody know anything about Christian Backman from C-bus?

Francois Beauchemin is available.

Does Anders Eriksson having anything left in the tank at age 34?

Cammalieri to Montreal for $6M per year and Greg Zanon leaves Nashville for Minnesota and $1.8M per.

I know Cammalieri puts up points, but he doesn’t really play defense.  With what other contracts are starting to shake out to, I think they’re probably paying a bit too much for him, but I don’t think it’s a crazy amount.  Zanon is probably worth every penny and I’m glad he left Nashville, that’s two fewer games against him.

I hate this part of the summer.  I really liked having a guy who could pull goals out of his ass like Hossa.  And that’s kind of unfair to Kopecky that they weren’t interested in bringing him back…he showed some good stuff this year.

Moving on…lilja4ever - Didn’t Sundin pass on the Wings last year? I can’t imagine he’d play for what he’d probably consider peanuts. Hell, he hasn’t even decided if he’s going to play at all.

Aphaea, we need depth at D. Assuming Lilja does not return, this is what we have:

Lids - Rafi
Stu - Kronner
Jonny - Lebda/Meech

That’s it. IIRC from the playoffs, none of the Griffins defensemen are ready for the NHL

Anders is responsible in his own end, has a decent breakout pass, is +40 something for his career and might come cheap. He’s also a known quantity that would fit in well with the locker room. He was only making 1.5mil the last few years and would likely come here for less.

Aphaea, I agree with you that Getzlaf might be different if he hadn’t been Duckwashed (or should that be D!ckwashed?) But we’ll never know for sure. The only players on that team I can remotely stand are Selanne and Gigure. The rest are all dead to me.

Alzy's avatar

Cap’n, from that list, the only names that jump out at me are Beauchemin, Mathieu Schneider, Zubov,  and at a long stretch Patrice Brisebois, Derek Morris and James Wisniewski.

Beauchemin would be a nice banger from the Poultry, but he’s probably going to stay with the Poultry.

Schneider was good the last time he was here, but he’s not getting any younger, and we’d probably have to pay him what Kronner or Stuie make to play on our third pair.

Zubov like I said I think would be a real good fit, but the price is likely too high.

Brisebois is getting older, but he’s always performed well for the Habs. He may be able to do the same for us, flying in under the radar and not having to e the main guy.

Derek Morris is a decent offensive talent, but I frankly think he’s overrated. He’s always pegged as being a guy who can provide an offensive spark for a team’s blueline, but it’s never happened.

Wisniewski would take a lot of getting used to, and he’s an RFA, which would make it harder to get him. I don’t think the Poultry will give him up either though.

I like your list Alzy; Beauchemin caught my eye, too. Schneids tore his achilles this season and I doubt he’ll come back from that at his age.

Alexei Semenov had OK stats with the Sharks, but I don’t know that much about him.

There are a lot of young defenseman on that list that are UFA with very few NHL games played; I guess that means their old teams think they’re not NHL caliber.

I could be wrong, but I think you’re thinking of Lang. Lang sliced his achilles with a skate, and Schnieder definitely underwent an injury near the end of the season, but he was back for the playoffs if memory serves correct. I’d love to see him take a massive massive discount and come play back in the winged wheel.

Though I really don’t think Tick Tock is going to be doing much on the FA front. I think he’ll sign Happy or Sammy and Leino, and maybe make a move or two to free up cap space, but probably not much else.

Would of liked to have Clemmenson next year. I don’t believe Howard is the heir apparent, and Clemmenson would have been good insurance if Ozzie got boored again. Maybe Zubov would take a discount for another kick at the cup. How about Boynton?

JEEBSUS no to Anders Ericcson. He sucked then and still sucks now.
Beauchemin would be nice, but won’t happen.
Schnieder did make it back in the playoffs, but I’ll pass on him as well. 2 years older, not great in his own end and another left handed man on the point. Pass.
The Poultry would have to be nuts to let Wisniewski go.
Brisebois… ehhhhh maybe.
Zubov would have been a nice pick up a couple years ago & will be a high priced salary to boot.
How about journeyman like Rhett Warner? We could try to salvage a year or 3 from Kyle McLaren…. he’d fit the mold of the Wings and turninga pile of $hit into a goldmine?
Try to pluck Scuderi from the Pen(i)s? BWAAAHAHAHA.
Filling in the 3rd pairing, I’d hate to see us plunk down a sizeable chunk of change.

Hindsight says Meech should have gone on the waiver wire not Quincey.

Hossa’s first interview after choosing Hawks

July 1, MLive.com: “I had a great time in Detroit,’’ Hossa said during a conference call today. “I was hoping we could get something done, but with today’s economy and the salary cap it’s hard (for a team) to sign all its star players.’‘

He added: “It was a great year. It didn’t finish how I’d like, but now it’s time to move on.’‘

He said he knew it would be tough for him to sign long-term with the Red Wings.

“If I sign, probably another five guys wouldn’t be able to sign or someone would be traded,’’ Hossa said. “That would be hard to deal with.’‘

for a rivalry to take place, both teams have to contribute to it… seing the wings lost thier best winger, their best goalie, and their future best center in the same day, i doubt the 3rd installment of “The Trilogy” will take place in next years finals… way to piss it away losers…

the hawks are in the finals easily next year after this signing, and the wings will be lucky to take a game from them in the conference finals… kane and toews are team players, and will re-sign with them cause they dont just rent their players… have fun losers!!
