Mirtle: Hossa a Hawk

Kopecky a Hawk too, and this is interesting from Kevin Allen,

With Hossa signed with Chi 4 12 yrs, I have ‘Hawks at $34 mill for 8 players in 10-11 with no Kane, Toews, Keith

From Elliot Friedman’s Twitter account,

Pierre LeBrun (the real one) reports it is 12 years, $5.2 million per season for Hossa.

Via TSN, then James Mirtle.  No word on money or term.

And so, I’m thinking the rivalry with Chicago?  Just got a bit more intense.

Much like playing what 22 regular season games for the Pens in ‘08? And STILL crying about his “betraying” the team?

Honest to God… why is that that all trolls dont understand the concept that there were not ever 6 teams in the league… the Original 6 is just the remaining franchises from the original era…

Sorry, doucher, but remember how well that Huet thing worked out for you last year (see: Game 4 WCF)?? All of a sudden, you’re positive that the Wings can’t win because you’ve upgraded ONE player and shipped out the goaltender that could stop pucks. Laughable.

Wings = more cups in the last 12 years than the Blackhawks in the last 83…

Not to mention they still have Campbell who is good for a turnover leading to a breakaway/odd man rush at least every other game.

If your melon and or psyche is that soft, no wonder the Finals were non-productive for him. Just sayin’.

AMEN

Again, I’d like to point out the intermission interview in the SCF where Hossa would not look at the interviewer or into the camera. He stared at his feet through the ENTIRE INTERVIEW.

I think Hossa’s mental softness is a byproduct of all those years Ottawa was tabbed to do something in the playoffs and choked hard instead. Hell, they could’ve ended Canada’s Cup drought in ‘07, but no, they had to go choke and let that filth from Anaheim defile Lord Stanley’s trophy.

for a rivalry to take place, both teams have to contribute to it… seing the wings lost thier best winger, their best goalie, and their future best center in the same day,

So we lost Cleary(winger),Mule(winger), Pavs(center) ,or Z(center), and Ozzie(goalie)?

All on the same day? I didn’t know. Cretin.

Lets Go Red wings!!!!!

Does anybody else think tic tock is shopping for a d-man rather than a forward? Personally, I think Lil’s career is over; he’s still having headaches 4-5 months after the injury. We need defensive depth.

Defensive depth?  Are you kidding me?  We have four guys who would be top pair on just about any other team, and our EXTRA guy is either Lebda, Lilja or Meech.

We’ve got 8 defensemen and right now we’ve got, I think, 9 forwards.  He’s definitely shopping for forwards.

I think we unload either Lebda or Lilja (or just let Lilja ride off into the sunset) and keep Meech as a spare like last year.

I’m just not convinced Eriksson is what the Wings need. Is he that much better than Lebda or Meech?

Yes.  Yes he is, 40 games into his career, that much better than Lebda or Meech.  In a couple years he’s a top pair defenceman.

I could be wrong, but I think you’re thinking of Lang. Lang sliced his achilles with a skate, and Schnieder definitely underwent an injury near the end of the season, but he was back for the playoffs if memory serves correct. I’d love to see him take a massive massive discount and come play back in the winged wheel.

Though I really don’t think Tick Tock is going to be doing much on the FA front. I think he’ll sign Happy or Sammy and Leino, and maybe make a move or two to free up cap space, but probably not much else.

Blueshirts are CRAZY for that Gabby contract… far too long and way too much for a faberge forward… That makes the Oils the only real destination for Heatley now (though I still think the Poultry should trade Giggy for him, as a complete douche, Heaters would fit in there).

Indeed so.  Ericsson >>> Eriksson

I know it’s off topic, but can anyone believe what a great postseason that kid had?  I mean, because of the loss (and probably even if we’d won) our emotions may be too high to respect the game he played, because it was often quiet, but 4 goals, 4 assists, a PLUS 8 for a first timer in the playoffs going all the way on a team like this?  That kid is clutch.  Let’s not forget his fight against the Poultry.

Back on topic:

In 1986 the US and Swedish Governments began an experiment known as Project Brasky, in which DNA was used to clone Jonny Ericsson.  If there were any escaped embryos that made it to adulthood, we could sign him at a low price.  But, unfortunately, this stock was not intended to reach adulthood.  Somewhere around their infancy they are all summarily slaughtered and fed to Jonny, so that he can use their developing cells to heal his injuries.  Like his hand.  Hence his ass-whoopings in the last games of the regular season (Stafford) and in the Playoffs (Poultry)..

Here’s to Jonny Ericsson!

They just changed Gaborik’s contract to 37.5 over 5. 7.5 cap hit. Those Rangers spend money like a horny sailor at sea for months and months with a pocket full of doe and a hard on you could pound 16 nails with. Will they never learn? Chicago looks to become the western conference version.

Possibly.  They definitely have the players.  Now can their coach get them all to gel?  I recall a Redwing team with, what 10, 15 HOF’ers and not making it too far into the postseason.  And I believe that specific team was coached by the best.  I guess we’ll see in April.

cementslinger, the 02/03 team was Dave Lewis’ first year. Scotty told the Captain he was done when Yzerman handed him the Cup in 2002.

Looking at possible 3rd/4th liners out there that could be a fit. I like the Travis Moen idea. Another guy could be Taylor Pyatt out of Vancouver. He’s still pretty young at 27, and only made $1.575 million last season.

Someone like a Steve Eminger could be worth a shot on D. He was pretty good for the Kitchener Rangers (my hometown junior team), and I think he may have been thrust in the spotlight prematurely with Washington and then last season in Tampa.

I wish it wasn’t Chicago, but I am trying to be rational about this.  He wants a chance to win, he wants to earn what he is worth, and he wants stability.  Chicago is able to offer all three.  I hope he doesn’t win a Cup because I hate the Hawks, but I am having a hard time hating Hossa.  I think they will be a good fit for him.

Aimee, I agree with you completely. The thing that makes it worse for me is that I live in Chicago, so I have to deal with reading the media and hearing it from fans. And I really, really wanted to keep 81. But whatever. Time to move on.  I’m disappointed in Hossa, but I still like him.

So. This was a bad day that capped a crap month for Wings fans. It’s the first time we’ve really been burned by the CBA. (Thanks Gary.Ass, you tard midget f*ck.) And the Central will be a dogfight. Yet we still have fantastic players, a genius coach and the best organization in sports. Somehow, I don’t expect that they will have trouble finding motivation next season. We had a taste of STFU in the playoffs; 2009-10 might prove to be the season of STFU. Only 92 days until the opener in Stockholm. Can’t wait.

Despite last night’s big free-agency splashes, I’m overall relatively unconcerned about Chicago.  Sure, they’ve got some good players, but first of all, will they even play cohesively, as a team, rather than as a bunch of individual stars?  Unless Scotty steps back behind the bench, they haven’t got the coach for it.

Second, they’ve got tremendous firepower now, but are still suspect on the defensive side of things.  They’ve got Madden, but he’s not the force of will he once was.  Hossa and Sharp are good, but not great, backcheckers.  Toews is still learning how to be a defensive forward (though perfectly capable of being a Selke winner once he does get this side of his game down), and Kane’s defense is pratically nonexistent.  Don’t even get me started on guys like Burrish and Eager.  Then we get to the defense corps.  Keith and Seabrook are strong, but they can’t play thirty minutes a night and still remain fresh for the playoffs.  Barring miraculous improvement, I don’t expect Barker & Campbell to be all that effective in their own end (Barker could improve and clean up his act, being young yet, but Campbell and his stupid carrot top is just too old and stupidly set in his stupid, stupid, ways.  Did I mention he’s stupid?).  Finally, the last line of defense.  If Huet’s their starter, it’s worry time.  He’s a good goalie when he doesn’t have to shoulder the lion’s share of the starts, and he’s NEVER been a playoff starter.  Ride him all year and he’ll be even more tired when the playoffs start.  They’d better hope Corey Crawford can step up.

I suspect they’ll be winning games 6-5, having a few good complete games, and getting blown out of the water horribly some nights (again, like this last season).  Individual play ahead of team play, and zero attention paid to defense in favor of scoring punch.  Both of those were issues for us last year, and the Pens the year before that.  Maybe there’s some sort of ‘Hossa Effect?’ That being said, the two often go together, I know.

And then there’s the whole question of wilting in the pressure cooker of the playoffs.  We know that at least two of their players (including the most important position in the postseason) are good for choke jobs…

Speaking of the playoffs, where’s Forklift to weigh in with some pithy commentary, or at least a “WOOOOOOOO!  HOSSA MOTHERF*CKERS!” when you need him?
