Mirtle: Hossa a Hawk

Kopecky a Hawk too, and this is interesting from Kevin Allen,

With Hossa signed with Chi 4 12 yrs, I have ‘Hawks at $34 mill for 8 players in 10-11 with no Kane, Toews, Keith

From Elliot Friedman’s Twitter account,

Pierre LeBrun (the real one) reports it is 12 years, $5.2 million per season for Hossa.

Via TSN, then James Mirtle.  No word on money or term.

And so, I’m thinking the rivalry with Chicago?  Just got a bit more intense.

While I still think this is not an awesome situation because I like the guy and this makes him seem like a douche, there is comfort in knowing he may be cursed and that the Hawks are potentially screwed next year at this time.  Really?  Hossa to a long term deal and most likely losing Kane?  Where is the logic in that?

He won’t be booed by me.  In public.

And if someone offers Happy $2.5 million per, let him walk.

We can match that. Happy may have 25 goals this year.  Christ, we payed 7.45 million for 40 goals last year.

Fortunately for a GREAT MANY Wings fans, we already accepted he could be gone.  When?  When he signed that one-year deal last summer.  We knew back then it was only for a year and that he could be gone - Cup or bust.

You Pens fans badly need to get over Hossa.  Much, much moreso than us Wings fans.

I have no bitterness towards Hossa leaving at all.  You do.

Well, with it all confirmed, it’s another regular-season star who’ll disappear against his old team when we meet in the playoffs.  I’m as worried about this as I am abouta bunch of rampaging gnats.

Props to Kenny for not bowing to the pressure if $5.2 million a season was all it took; that would have screwed us even worse than a $4 million cap hit.  Now we can get on with keeping our homegrown talent, and how talented it is.

One thing this does guarantee: when the cap goes down next summer, some form of relief will be offered by the League.  They wouldn’t want their new favorite team to suffer any more than it already has to next year.

And Kopy too?  Let’s hope they can somehow motivate him, otherwise they’ll never uncover the supposed untapped offensive potential that some blind scouts seem to think he has.

Bella, don’t forget that we may need another Swede to replace William Tell.

Nope. There’s a big, big, BIG difference. There will be no massive conniption fit here. It was his choice to leave the plug and play machine we have here. Other than the games the hawks have with the wings, most if not all will thank him for his services and wish him well. It will be interesting to see the contract problems that the hawks will have the next couple of years.

This just released from Ken Holland:

Marian, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, Tpmas Kopecky? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for losing the Cup two year in a row and curse the Red Wings for not ponying up the doe; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that losing you to Gary’s cap, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to attain something. You use them as a punchline to gain market value. I have neither the money nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very chance of being a dynasty that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said “thank you,” and went on your way to The Windy City. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick your head and watch out for Kronwall. Either way, I don’t give a damn what amount of money you think you are entitled to!

In Kenny I trust.

AFAA is probably correct, there will likely be more cap issues next season.

Tick Tock knows what in the hell he is doing (all evidence suggests he rarely screws up).

Hudler is probably staying (unless he gets a ridiculous offer sheet ala Kevin Lowe), and since Sammy is likely not; we need a new whipping boy.  Be nice to see the Wings play Gator solid minutes for his grit, but if Tick Tock does anything, he’ll likely look for some UFA sandpaper.

I’m just suprised he only signed for $1M more per than we were offering.  Seems rather weak.  However as has been pointed out, Chicago just killed their future, no way they can keep Kane and Toews now after their current contracts expire.  Kane sure would look nice in a Red Wings #88 uni, Hopefully Mule pulling his mouth guard out didn’t burn any bridges…
