Dan Cleary is thecond on the team with ten goalth, but may be middle of the pack in termth of tooth-count.

“I’m having a hard time speaking,” said Cleary, whose two front teeth were knocked out in a game recently. He hasn’t gone to the dentist yet, and he’s having trouble with words that contain the letter S.
After netting a goal and an assist to extend his current point streak to five games in Saturday’s 5-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, Cleary joked that he wasn’t in a hurry to set up a dental appointment.
“I might keep ‘em out now,” Cleary said.
It’s December 11th, and we’re all knocking on wood. Nearly 30 games into the season and no signs of trouble from The Groin. The Wings have stuck to their plan (nobly conceived, but poorly carried out in some cases—such as decisions to play him against St. Louis and Minnesota rather than stiffer opponents) and kept him out of back-to-back games.

The early returns are stirring—Hasek is 14-4, and his 1.84 goals-against average ranks first in the league. Earlier in the season, he posted the longest shutout streak of his career, at 181 minutes, 17 seconds.
“The way I am right now is exactly the way I was back in 1998 and my best years in Buffalo.”
If the Wings wanted to err on the side of the ultra-paranoid, they’d take it a step further and replace him out prior to shootouts. A point’s already in the bag, we’ve proven we can’t win the frigging things anyway, so what would it hurt?
And finally, it’s not just me. The Toronto Sun’s Terry Koshan (thanks to a pointer from George Malik at Snapshots) noticed it too. The Wings are an after thought to the Detroit media.
The Red Wings, given their rich history, nicknamed Detroit “Hockeytown” years ago but a rare matchup with the Leafs, at one time a hot Original Six rival, did not get much play in one of the local newspapers.
Stories on the Michigan Wolverines football team, the NBA’s Pistons, the Tigers closing in on a new deal with Brandon Inge and another on a Division II football club were on the front page of the sports section in the Detroit News.
A notebook with the Wings/Leafs game as the lead item was on Page 7 of the sports section.
Yeah. We know.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
