More On Center Ice Online

Thought I’d log on to the NHL Video Portal, just for fun. Watched the highlights of the San Jose series, which made me warm. Then clicked on “Center Ice” to see if the Wings game was going to be offered tonight. Ran into some problems in that a registration screen popped up. Filled it out, even though I’d done that previously. Then I got the option of the early bird special for $149 or the free preview. Selected free preview and got some sort of error code 500, which prevented me from going any further.
Called the customer service and actually spoke with someone who said “eh” and had a decidedly Canadian accent. The guy told me that they’re having “issues” with the interface right now and that if the problem isn’t solved soon they’re going to do a work-around to make sure all the games scheduled for tonight (including the Wings) will be available.

I was just able to log in without trouble using both IE and FF. “All the games” tonight is Wings/Pens and Leafs/Bruins which is in progress and blacked out.

Well, that work-around isn’t working for me. I was getting some canned music for about 45 seconds, then nothing.
Tried in FF and IE.

Paul -
Working fine for me in IE (after 4 tries,) crashes FF instantly. They even fixed the maximize option so full screen works now. The picture quality is acceptable.
Good luck.

Had it going on firefox (with the canned music but a strong video signal) and then all hell broke loose. Picture froze, came back, sporadic signal...sadness. Gary Bettman then knocked my wireless router askew so I had to re-start.
At that point I remembered what TeamDub said about IE so I went that route and all is well.
Did I see Grigorenko skating with Hudler and Filppula? If so, tonite may be a better opportunity to show his stuff, if the Wings can stay out of the box.

I guess I’m one of the lucky ones, then… I’ve been watching on FF so far without problems. Had it up on IE also at the beginning, but for 3rd time FF video quality is much better.
Did I see Grigorenko skating with Hudler and Filppula?
Yep, right near the end of the period. Didn’t notice it earlier, but maybe I missed something.

Better 2nd for Wings… but that was Georges Laraque outskating Grigorenko, wasn’t it...
I gotta run and won’t see the 3rd… there’s gotta be a way to record these. Any ideas, anyone???

I’m assuming most of you are Windows users (damn pagans!); I’m using FF on a Mac and got it to show up without much trouble. (The site actually says that the Mac OS isn’t supported yet). I got the Error:500 thing too but ignored it and signed into CenterIce as if the process went though perfectly. The video showed up!
HOWEVER, the video was skipping, sometimes picking up where it left off and other times just catching up to the moment and making me miss all the stuff in between. Also, I couldn’t enter full screen mode. Anyone else out there using a Mac that can offer some advice?
I would totally go for this if there was some consistency, or a reduction in price to make up the difference.

If you are Mac person, buy and install QuickTime Pro (about $29) and you should be able to save the video in QT format.

Or just download Flip4Mac (free and NHL.com recommended) and you’ll be able to save it as well.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:
