Niyo: Lidstrom’s “C"hance Comes Tonite

I’m liking the kid John Niyo at the News.  I like stuff like this:  “There is no handbook. No instructional video. Not even one of those bracelets with the inscription “W.W.S.D.”

What Would Stevie Do?”

I like it because it’s what we’re all thinking today.  What’s Nick going to do?  This is a little more dire than ‘97 against a Blues team that was, well, not really that good.  It’s a little different than a visit to Sergei in the trainer’s room.  And no matter how hard he tries, he can’t fake a wrecked knee.

I’ll let young John tell you the rest.

If the rest of the team play with half the confidence Lidstrom does I’m not worried.  I’m hoping to see red jerseys storming around loose pucks tonight, and I’m thinking we see Dom’s best game yet.  He does not want to lose to Jiggy.  I wonder if he’s already at the rink with heating pad on his hands, getting psyched up.

Anyone else notice that Lidstrom has gotten alittle more nasty? I have noticed him give more cross-checks and slashes to Ducks around the crease after the whistle.

At this point?  Make a futile attempt to get a stick on Ales Hemsky as he busts up ice, completing a shocking Wings choke job wherein the Wings blow 2-0 and 3-2 leads in the third period.

Man, that was right in the wheelhouse.

Or singlehandedly drag the single most talented team ever assembled through the playoffs to the Stanley Cup on one good knee.

With all due respect, this is not the time to bash the Captain, especially not about the waning years. This is also the reason Cheif’s post on the matter is delayed.

I think Nick and Babcock go well together as leaders; they handle adversity with the same steely resolve that will make this a championship team this year or the next.

btw, I’m already in the fetal position and plan to IV liquor throughout the day—just enough to see *two* lidstroms out there…

Wait, they’re “the single most talented team ever assembled” and they had to be dragged through the playoffs?  Is anyone else finding that a little odd?

Talent isn’t everything.  I take it you haven’t watched much playoff hockey.

Hard as it might be for fans of the Red Wings to believe, given their teams’ notorious annual playoff collapses, talent is pretty much the key part of the equation.  Of course, hard work and determination are a part of talent.  Maybe, just maybe, those Wings teams were as talented at that part of the game.

Talent wasn’t the reason they lost in the past few years.  They lost because they got up against less-talented teams with more drive and determination.  Come playoff time, hard work frequently trumps talent.

Of course, hard work and determination are a part of talent.

No, they’re a complement to talent.

Maybe, just maybe, those Wings teams were as talented at that part of the game.

The Wings got outworked by young teams like Edmonton, Calgary, and Anaheim.  The Wings were more talented, but it didn’t matter.

Nope this is the SOUTH… coffee is for yankees… TEA…
Good and Sweet! Y’all should try it some time. Very nice on a HOT HUMID Day… when face with a 3-2 dilema.

But I’m just standing behind my team, cheering them on! I know they can do this. SOME just need their backs in the corner to fight their way out. Instead of against the wall.

GO WINGS!

I BELIEVE!

Is it time to board the stress train yet?

Hope so.  I have to be out this evening.  Maybe some of us can get special dispensation to board the train early and settle into our seats.

I’m wearing the same shirt I wore for the last two game sixes, so we’ll see if the lucky clothes voodoo helps.
