Last live blog I had to lure you in with a contest. Tonite? We harken back to the words of Rocky Balboa in II when Mick suggested he go back to southpaw prior to the 15th round.
“No tricks. I ain’t switchin’.”
You’re damn right Rock. No tricks. Live blog starts here.

Ken Daniels says, as you all heard which begs the question just why the hell am I writing it, that Homer’s out a week.

If he can’t score with Datsyuk and Zetterberg, there’s no hope.
Maybe we’ll have to sacrifice a live chicken.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/13/07 at 07:41 PM ET
Holy jumpin’. I almost spilled my Yuengling when Ken said it was Downey who scored.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 07:43 PM ET
I thought Weebles wobbled but they didn’t fall down.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/13/07 at 08:03 PM ET
3 words.....Roloson, Academy Award
Posted by dougie on 12/13/07 at 08:05 PM ET
What a pass from Datsyuk, and man they’re giving 13 some room, aren’t they?
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 08:06 PM ET
FYI, Marty Reasoner is wearing Thermablades.
Posted by Paul from Motown Area on 12/13/07 at 08:06 PM ET
Not good. Another forward down. We may see Grigorenko soon. Kidding.

“Holy jumpin’. I almost spilled my Yuengling when Ken said it was Downey who scored”
I had just turned on the telecast, and I thought
“Downey SCORES” were the first words I heard....
but I was drinking , too.

Kopecky back on the ice. Maybe just a bruise?
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/13/07 at 08:13 PM ET
Kopecky must have had the wind knocked out of his shoulder. Not a common ailment, just an early diagnosis.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 08:14 PM ET
Looks like a fine battle of .900 SV percentages tonight.
Posted by Andy Grabia from The Oilogosphere on 12/13/07 at 08:14 PM ET
I hope the new Oilers ownership will bring back the old Oilers uniforms. Those are dreadful (although the dark ones aren’t quite as horrible).
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/13/07 at 08:34 PM ET
veeeery slow on the postings...is the game as ugly as it seems?
Posted by Alex from San Francisco on 12/13/07 at 08:42 PM ET
Hey we’re spoiled......we need a contest!
Posted by dougie on 12/13/07 at 08:52 PM ET
I hear ya Dougie. I’m going to have another beer. There’s your contest. Wings are looking better. I’m predicting a three goal third.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 08:54 PM ET
i’m skipping the beer and hitting the bourbon
Posted by Alex from San Francisco on 12/13/07 at 08:56 PM ET
Woohoo...great look from Rafalski. Man.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 08:57 PM ET
Astute call from Mick: “That was a pass all the way.”
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 08:58 PM ET
Hey..I’m a little irritated nobody picked up on my labeling John Niyo as Ryan the Temp today. I need affirmation you know.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 09:01 PM ET
doesn’t Ryan turn into a douche? maybe i don’t know Niyo that well. or maybe the writers are still on strike. bourbon anyone?
Posted by Alex from San Francisco on 12/13/07 at 09:03 PM ET
I see Roloson is polishing his technique ... Floppason. I can’t believe the refs still buy into that garbage. Stick an Academy Award in his, uh, ear and let’s play some hockey.
Posted by Rumbear from Sandy "Look! Snow!" Eggo on 12/13/07 at 09:31 PM ET
Hey Chief...Just so ya know,I did mentally acknowledge the Ryan thing today, didn’t have time to post since I actually had to WORK for a change. Dwight Schrute RULES!!

Is Hasek dead?
I can never tell when he’s really injured…
Posted by Mike W on 12/13/07 at 09:32 PM ET
Glad I didn’t finish my comment that judging by Hasek’s facial expression, he was done for the year.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 09:34 PM ET
Were you all praying Hasek wouldn’t get up? Huh? Huh?
Posted by Andy Grabia from The Oilogosphere on 12/13/07 at 09:34 PM ET
No Andy, we weren’t. Hasek’s our starter and there’s never been any doubt about that. None.
Thanks Dougie, and I agree. Watched the episode where he puked on the back of his car last night. a classic.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 09:36 PM ET
Yes! A breakaway. 1..something. 1..is it Cleary? Is it Datsyuk?
Oh, it’s Drake. Nevermind.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 09:38 PM ET
“Were you all praying Hasek wouldn’t get up? Huh? Huh?”
Not so much, it’s a win-win situation in Detroit, Ozzie has a clipboard in his hand, or Ozzie is winning another game for us, what can I say?
Posted by dougie on 12/13/07 at 09:38 PM ET
That skate to the ribs is serious. I think Hasek is in shock and when it thaws out, Ozzie will finish the game. Don’t bed surprised if Hasek is out for a couple of weeks.
My Visitor just left, and I missed the live blogging.

“My Visitor just left,”
I had Visitors one night. There was this bright light outside my bedroom window, then these gray doods with big eyes were standing around my bed. I woke up naked in a road ditch 3 days later. I was sore in....ah, nevermind.
Sorry, it’s the Bombay talking.
Posted by dougie on 12/13/07 at 09:52 PM ET
Catchup hockey is a bitch.

Zetterberg scores.....it’s like we have an EASY button

Nice one Hank.

Flame and Lighting tied at 6 in the third.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/13/07 at 10:00 PM ET
I call Gagner with the shootout winner for Edmonton.
Just being realistic.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/13/07 at 10:11 PM ET
Oh, boy....the most exciting play in the game coming up, at least 5 times in a row, and maybe 18.
Posted by dougie on 12/13/07 at 10:11 PM ET
Mickey: “Oiltenders” nice.
Posted by Hoser from Downer Peninsula, Michigan on 12/13/07 at 10:13 PM ET
Or maybe Hemsky.
9-1 in the shootout for the Oilers.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/13/07 at 10:15 PM ET
Wings made it easy for Roloson all night with those long slow windups on the slapshots. He had enough time to polish his skates before setting up on most of them.

RE: Hasek -- Is anyone else getting a little bit “cheesed” that while he may end up giving up 3 goals on 20-something shots (25 last night), he always seems to give up 2 or 3 within the first 10 (2 GA on 7 SOG in 1st period)?!? AAAAARGH!
I’m sorry, but the only cup he’ll be picking up with that type of goaltending is his own after getting faked out of his jockstrap.
My suggestion—other than benching his a**—is to make sure that he gets warmed up properly and stays warmed up all game...even if it means guys taking shots on him during the anthem and between periods!
RE: Roloson -- In the shootout, I was hoping someone on the Wings bench would point out that both Hartigan and Zetterberg scored on his glove side from a sharp angle during regulation. Of course, it would be pretty difficult for three left-handed shooters to pull off—especially since they can’t cross the goal line—but heck, it would at least be worth a shot!

Chief: Chris Pronger wrote something!!! And not just the etch-o-sketch, scratches on cave walls kind of thin either.
You, and all the people at HTT, need to comment. That is my decree. Now, go forth and produce.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

"I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site."
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields
"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey
"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats
"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."

"I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think."
--Drew Sharp
"Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better."
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont
"Have you ever *read* A2Y? Its the most opinionated, juvenile stuff i've read."

Did I just see Dallas Drake is playing on the second line? Oh my. And I’m predicting a 3-point night for Samuelsson. If he can’t score with Datsyuk and Zetterberg, there’s no hope.
