Note To Gary

You have to think Gary Bettman reads pretty much anything NHL-related.  Let’s go ahead and establish that.  Keeping that in mind, let me make one recommendation.  Don’t just read this article from The Emperor.  Digest it.  Ruminate on it.  And use it as concrete evidence that the hockey bloggers are the best group of friends this league has.

Access, Gary.  Full access to every team.  Three bloggers per team with the same opportunities as the MSM.  The results can only bring more exposure to a sport that sorely needs it.

That post by Kukla is exactly why I read the blogs.  I would NEVER get that from the MSM.  He sees the world from the eyes of a fan, not a professional.  Thanks, Paul.
P.S.  Is Brian Burke really a nice guy?!?
He looks so much like Dick Cheney…..

Some of us who answer to the MSM boss still try to take the fan’s perspective, cough cough wink

I still think that the blogger fills a role that’s necessary in today’s world as passionate people who channel that excitement for the game and loyalty to teams and players into comments and stories that you just don’t get from somebody whose goal is to be an objective journalist telling “the story.”

“The feelings” matter, too, and the best thing about being a blogger, frankly, is that as a fan, you’re much more accountable to your fellow fans because that’s what they are—your peers.

I don’t think Bettman can read… obviously he can’t read a television contract, or stats on TV viewership. All he can read is numbers with dollar signs infront of them.

I like having the perspective of BOTH bloggers and mainstream journalists.  It’s like reading about the same historical battle from the viewpoint of the decision-makers and also from the people on the ground, fighters and civilians.  More than one viewpoint is never a bad thing—who would go to an ice-cream place that only had two flavors instead of 31?

Keep up the great work Paul!  MLIVE and KK are the first places I go in the morning to keep up with the sports and teams that I follow.
BTW - you should get the NHL to allow people to post comments directly to your blog on NHL.com so us loyal KK readers can reinforce the value that you and other bloggers bring to keeping up the hockey “buzz” year round.
Thanks!
