Note To Tick Tock: The Kids Are Alright

Jiri Hudler is gone and good riddance. Would I have said that one month ago? No sir. But now, since he’s decided that skimming Tolstoy and wearing black bear fur suits while attending Ivan Drago comeback fights is better than making a few million playing for the greatest franchise in hockey? Well now he can just stay gone.
And Hoss is gone too, but at least he took Dale Talon with him. Sammy? He’ll be firing pucks at the Sedin sisters. Tomas Kopecky left too but reports indicate he tore a groin carrying Marian’s stick bag through O’Hare.
Bottom line: the Wings have lost four forwards with zero external movement to replace a single one. I say external because within the organ-I-zation, there is a good amount of talent to make up for the losses. Helm and Leino are obviously guaranteed spots. Helm, in particular, will never leave Detroit. A Wing for life. We all know what one of those looks like Helm has all the qualities.
Leino? I’ve told you this before and I’ll throw it out again. He’s going to be an interesting pal for Uncle Mike. Watch. There will be tension.
Still, if Home Keys stays in GR…and all the smart kids are saying Abdelkader needs one more year…that still leaves the Wings with only 11 forwards. And atop his big white steed rides in Jimmy D.
We owe Jimmy. We all do. He brought us Klima and Fedorov, Lidstrom and Konstantinov and countless others. Oh and Steve Yzerman too. But, it’s been an A2Y constant—from day one—that we have to say this: Jimmy? You need to STFU.
Malik broke down the Fan590 interview with Devellano yesterday. A long, rambling piece of art. Here’s Jimmy, reacting to Oompa’s recent appointment to the Putin cabinet, with a hint to the agents of any prospective Wing signees.
Roger, as you know, it couldn’t have happened at a worse time for the Red Wings, because losing Marian Hossa, losing Mikael Samuelsson, we’ve really have been hit, and a lot of goals have been taken out of your lineup.
Jesus Jimmy. Seriously. This team has a GM. His name is Kenny Holland. He’s a professional, I promise. Stifle yourself.
He goes on to say that Holland is pursuing a forward with NHL experience, and would like to sign one within the next few days. Awesome. Except, you know, Gary’s Cap kinda prohibits us from going after a Prospal. Gary’s Cap pretty much relegates us to the Malhotras and a few other fellas who have already failed in the 313. Animal Drew’s got a bit more on prospective UFA’s. To me, none look magical. One name not on Drew’s list? Dominic Moore. I’m just sayin’.
If Holland were to sign Moore, I could dig that. If not?
Two bits of advice: Jimmy? STFU. Kenny? Save your money, roll the dice with the kids and see what needs to be done in March. Just because something is on sale does not mean you have to buy it, especially when you don’t have much to spend anyway.
Jason Williams is a punk-ass who couldn’t handle Babcockian affection. Signing Bertuzzi would be a desperate move and the Detroit Red Wings are not a desperate team. Wait until camp and see who impresses. Could be a Hat Trick Dick or a Mursak or a Ryno. Keep Abdelkader in Detroit. Save the cash and have some patience.
Not gonna happen, of course. We all know it. They’re gonna sign someone now, or there’s going to be a surprise veteran as a camp invitee who’s going to make the team and chip in ten goals. Watch. No idea who the hell it is, but Tick Tock has a history wouldn’t you say?

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
