Can never judge Homers knee based off his speed.... falling down easy.. don’t say that @ him or the world will say he dives all over again and again ... and again.
If ya get beat like he does you’d think so.

I keep waiting for Drake to get something going and create some open ice.

Dallas like to run D early.. I like Dallas to run D early.
To paraphrase Uncle Mike.

Ever since Shanny and Hull have been long gone… we’ve needed a RH shot. Just sayin’.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 06:50 PM ET
I may have just slept through my alarm. Scoreles in the first. I guess I didn’t miss anything eventful.
So how’s the mojo tonight?
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 06:52 PM ET
Can Toronto stop playing like they have a chip on their shoulder?
Posted by lilja4ever on 10/09/08 at 06:53 PM ET
Okay, not that this hasn’t been fun...but time to start putting a couple more on net.
Ever since Shanny and Hull have been long gone
Bet we could get Shanny back pretty cheap at this point.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 10/09/08 at 06:54 PM ET
No real mojo… yet. Other than the banner and a few legends.....
Hoss had one lickety split break out tho’
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 06:54 PM ET
Datz/Hoss/Homer not looking quite as pretty as the Flying Circus, but they’re making the simple connections count. Not bad considering they barely skated together in the preseason. I like it.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 10/09/08 at 06:54 PM ET
Early looks like Uncle Mike is going to roll all 4 lines and just grind down the other teams—while keeping his top units fresh.
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 10/09/08 at 06:54 PM ET
Maltby’s hurt...bring on Helm!
Posted by cephalopod from Chicago, on the poop deck, not over it yet on 10/09/08 at 06:55 PM ET
Shanny’s one timer… I’d love. His skating ability & our roster now though..?
Same with Hully on one knee and BLASTING IT.
Seriously, we have lefties out the wazoo.
Sammy, ah he doesn’t count til he gets radar and hits the net.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 06:56 PM ET
Ozzie puts one in his own net—hows that grab ya?
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 10/09/08 at 06:56 PM ET
Ugh. I know we’re into slow starts, but that was ugly…
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 06:56 PM ET
Ack.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 06:57 PM ET
See what I get for mentioning Oz earlier?
My bad everyone.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 06:58 PM ET
Not looking good for Malts.
Anybody else hear Darren Helm’s phone ringing?
Posted by HockeyTownTodd from upset when blogs don’t live up to my expectations on 10/09/08 at 06:58 PM ET
Ozzie puts one in his own net—hows that grab ya?
Well, he knew the Chief would come in here and jinx any potential shutout in the final minutes anyways. Might as well get it done and over with.
Posted by lilja4ever on 10/09/08 at 06:58 PM ET
Dammit. This is what I get for missing the banner ceremony.
Apparently, a little thing called The Day of Freaking Atonement means very little to the hockey gods.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 06:59 PM ET
Well, apart from that little Oops, a pretty solid first period. Leafs haven’t looked as bad as I expected either. Not been clean all the time, but they haven’t panicked at all either.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 10/09/08 at 07:00 PM ET
Wings are playing too careful and making the Leafs look good.
Posted by HockeyTownTodd from upset when blogs don’t live up to my expectations on 10/09/08 at 07:02 PM ET
I was wondering how long before I got an opportunity to question our goalkeeping this season. Maybe it will take some of the heat off Lilja.
Posted by dougie on 10/09/08 at 07:03 PM ET
Aloha bitches. After missing the entire preseason, everything written about the Wings, said about the Wings, spewed about the Wings over the last three weeks....i get stuck in traffic on my way to my hotel here in Frisco. And when I arrive?
No Versus. Thanks Gary. Ass.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 10/09/08 at 07:03 PM ET
Go to Greens Sports Bar in a taxi. It’s on there Chief.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 07:05 PM ET
Welcome Chief. We’ve got a few streaming sites up top if ya need your fix.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 10/09/08 at 07:06 PM ET
Lilja, that avatar is just creepy.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 10/09/08 at 07:09 PM ET
On Justin TV right now. Thanks for the links. I literally have no idea what’s going on with this team right now. That’s how out of it I’ve been. Downey clear waivers? Don’t know. McCarty hurt? Didn’t know. Chelios hurt? Yeah. Knew about that.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 10/09/08 at 07:10 PM ET
Downer cleared. Mac hurt on IR with Cheli.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 07:11 PM ET
Dougie, you’ve got yourself one hell of an avatar. Mm mm good!
Welcome, Chief, to the wonderful world of temporary lodging in America. File a complaint with your hotelier, I’m sure he/she will give a shit. “Versa you say? Well, we’ve got the International Basket Weaving channel.... And Oxygen.”
Posted by monkey from Waiting for the lambs to stop screaming on 10/09/08 at 07:12 PM ET
We’ve got roster issues looming in other words.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 07:12 PM ET
Aaaaand the Chief is here! He found the internet in NoCal!
Posted by cephalopod from Chicago, on the poop deck, not over it yet on 10/09/08 at 07:14 PM ET
Oh good, now they’re cursing us with a promise of more Blind TIGER...er, Spinal Tap...er, Def Leppard in the second intermission.
They’re big in the Czech Republic, if that ever comes up in Trivial Pursuit.
Now...can we see some of that dominance we’ve been promised?
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 07:15 PM ET
Puck possession my ass...not with Lilja on the ice.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 07:17 PM ET
Bleck. Where’s the skating, boys?
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 10/09/08 at 07:17 PM ET
Osgood shoots… and scores!!!
Sorry, I know it’s late, I just had to get that in somewhere....
Posted by monkey from Waiting for the lambs to stop screaming on 10/09/08 at 07:17 PM ET
What might come up in Trivial Pursuit? The Czech Republic? or Def Leppard?
Posted by monkey from Waiting for the lambs to stop screaming on 10/09/08 at 07:19 PM ET
Maltby appears to be skating ok.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 10/09/08 at 07:20 PM ET
Did the VS guy just say “Mario Hosso”?
Posted by monkey from Waiting for the lambs to stop screaming on 10/09/08 at 07:20 PM ET
Both, I guess. Maybe their record sales in various countries.
Gawd knows they sell none in Sheffield.
Oh yeah...welcome back, Chief. Did you bring the real Red Wings with you?
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 07:21 PM ET
Welcome back Chief...now I can officially raise a glass to the 19 and the start of the season.
I’m catching up on a DVR delay from the intermission...caught the commercial for “SEE WHAT THEY SAW”....my wife walked by and said “i bet they’re just watching the stock market.”
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 10/09/08 at 07:22 PM ET
Geez, not getting the nice crease clearing we’re used to seeing. Little to much chase going on.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 10/09/08 at 07:22 PM ET
Malts is back, they just bolted on his spare leg.
Helm can go back to Hooters.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

How Others View The A2Y 19
"Hell, I guarantee the content co-opters at Abel to Yzerman were about to link this article under the heading “Bitter Blues Fans” again right up until they just read that last half-sentance. Thanks but no thanks, you Kukla hangers-on."
--St. Louis Game Time
"I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site."
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields
"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey
"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats
"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."
--Thhom
"I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think."
--Drew Sharp
"Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better."
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont
"Have you ever *read* A2Y? Its the most opinionated, juvenile stuff i've read."
--Paul Nicholson
"I actually like the Detroit team and have a sh&% load of respect for them, but their fans are the biggest douches next to Canadians."
--KStewy, PensBlog Commenter
"Just when it looks like we have bottomed out, the 19 hit a new low."
-A2Y legend, Hockeytown Todd
"And for the record, I don't hate the Red Wings, I hate their fans."
--Douche Bag at Puck Daddy who isn't Wyshynski
"You’re nothing but a douchebag ****, c3po. Go f**k yourself, and learn something about hockey in the process. Nothing ruins my day more than seeing your byline on the kk page."
--Hector, A2Y fan, statesman, Pittsburgh Chapter of Jonas Brothers Fan Club President
"I can just imagine the kindergarten teacher’s reaction when the tyke blurts out 'Mommy says Gary Bettman is a f*cking f*ckface! He wants to give ‘Rosby the bad touch.' ”
--Bella, of the 19
"A2Y is what other blog sites aspire to be when they fail to grow up: intelligent immaturity for the juvenile genius set”
