God Z is freakin’ good with the puck. Still unbelievable.
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 10/09/08 at 07:44 PM ET
they are still taking our shooting lanes away and anticipating well. gotta crank it up a notch!
Posted by hankyspanky40 from Michigan on 10/09/08 at 07:44 PM ET
Maybe I should criticize more often… I’m just sayin’.
Posted by Mike from La-La Land on 10/09/08 at 07:44 PM ET
Oh, I was going to say before Homer’s score, that Ozzie was doing the snow angel on the second TO goal. That’s one thing I could have lived with him NOT picking up from the CMOI.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 07:45 PM ET
I was just getting ready to ask whether Babs would panic and throw out a Dats/Z/Hossa line.
If that’s panic, I think it’s time to panic. And I think the other 29 NHL teams are ready to panic too.
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 10/09/08 at 07:45 PM ET
Hudler IS little… actually he’s really a HUGE MIDGET.
Posted by Mike from La-La Land on 10/09/08 at 07:47 PM ET
Setanta wasn’t a giant, he was just a boy warrior until one day he killed a famous guard dog of an irish farmer using only his hurl and a sliothar he was staying with after that he was renamed Cuchaillan(sp?) (hound of culain) and went on to lead many armies
Posted by keane16 from dublin on 10/09/08 at 07:48 PM ET
The lines have a funny feel for me, I can’t explain it any better. But we have to be patient with them especially since dats line has had very little time together. offense will come right now we need to pay attention to our defense, it just a’int there!
Posted by hankyspanky40 from Michigan on 10/09/08 at 07:48 PM ET
Now…. Uncle Mike will say a few things tween periods.
3rd period will be a little different me thinks.
Maybe we’ll play and not watch so much, but that banner was cool.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 07:48 PM ET
Like many new players once Hossa gets a goal it will be a weight lifted off his shoulders. I’d take it now Hossa!!
Posted by hankyspanky40 from Michigan on 10/09/08 at 07:50 PM ET
Hudler always looks little. Oompa Loompa, you know.
Posted by monkey from here to Timbuktu on 10/09/08 at 07:51 PM ET
Ugh.
It could always be worse. I really think its going to take time for 81 to click with Homer and Dats…
It’s just weird seeing Z without Dats and Homer though…
GO WINGS!!

Give-aways: Wings 12, Leafs 4. I think 11 of those were centering passes that led to nowhere. Not too worried though, Babs is on it.
Posted by Tyler from Lansing on 10/09/08 at 07:53 PM ET
Anyone miss the banner raising like I did?

Good point MO, how often have we heard about teams standing around in awe watching our team? We are standing around to much. Gotta skate play strong D and the offense will come!
Posted by hankyspanky40 from Michigan on 10/09/08 at 07:53 PM ET
Sorry Keane—I’m not really up with my Ulster Cycle…mostly because I know very little Irish (pogue mahone being the one phrase I’ve had the most call for). So I’m bound to Macha (!) a mistake somewhere. But I think it’s Cu Chulainn, if that helps. Not related to Roy, are yez?
And what exactly are you doing on a Red Wings blog, anyway? I know you Irish get around, but geez…
So is it too much to ask for one good period of hockey from our team? Uncle Mike will be chewing nails right now.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 07:54 PM ET
Hossa looks like he is trying to do too much at times, and other times he is floating up ice waiting for a pass. I think Uncle Mike has a little “educatin’” to do. Franzen is the power forward this team has been lacking for years.
Posted by Cal on 10/09/08 at 07:54 PM ET
Where is Budd Lynch?
Posted by S. Dot from Hampden Sydney, VA on 10/09/08 at 07:54 PM ET
How does that song go?
Oompa Loompa oompity do
I have another streaky Wings forward for you
Speedy, talented, offensively gifted
But frustratingly inconsistent
Or something like that… No, wait, it’s “Short, stubby even, offensively gifted”.

I think Uncle Mike is spitting nails right now..

Spitting wasn’t the first word that came to my mind.
Posted by Mike from La-La Land on 10/09/08 at 07:57 PM ET
Sports Soup? What is HELL is this?
Okay, like I needed ANOTHER reason to hate Vs.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 07:58 PM ET
Cú Chulainn??? And I thought I was cool because I know who Michael Collins and Éamon de Valera were.

My cat is laying on the top of my lazy- boy. good part is he is giving my neck a nice little paw massage!

Only related to that scouse bastard Robbie haha. Longtime creep first time poster, born in Dublin, currently in Edmonton. Yzerman fan
Posted by keane16 from dublin on 10/09/08 at 07:59 PM ET
We’ll get there… one shift and one battle at a time. But we need to start trying a little harder n stuff.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 08:00 PM ET
Crosby, Phaneuf, Lecavalier…Gaborik? Once again, not a single Wing in these idiot ads.
Of course, understandable the way they’re playing tonight.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 08:00 PM ET
Yzerman fan
Ya said the magic words! Welcome!
Posted by Rumbear from Top O da Hasek, sippin rum & catchin some rays on 10/09/08 at 08:02 PM ET
Ok. Now I know why I got Center Ice. I don’t (hopefully) have to deal with VS that often… This Joe guy should start talking like someone from the 40’s to keep in character.
Posted by eyesris from Asheville, NC on 10/09/08 at 08:03 PM ET
If they had a team ad we would be there. My fantasy team is taking a beating thus far!
Posted by hankyspanky40 from Michigan on 10/09/08 at 08:03 PM ET
Ick. Next time you see Robbie, tell him I said he has feet like Maltby’s hands.
Gotcha. Welcome to A2Y. But Dublin to…Edmonton? Well, different strokes for different folks. I’ll forgive you liking Deadmonton since you’re a Stevie Y fan too.
So. Can we see some of that fabled scoring we supposedly have in spades in the third?
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 10/09/08 at 08:03 PM ET
Going into radio silence for the 3rd.
Hasta.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 10/09/08 at 08:07 PM ET
their 2-1-2 is killing us. We gotta work harder at breaking through that and capitalizing.
Posted by hankyspanky40 from Michigan on 10/09/08 at 08:10 PM ET
Is it my imagination, or has Lebda lost some speed? He doesnt seem to outrace like he used to.
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 10/09/08 at 08:10 PM ET
Why did it take Lilja to finally carry the puck into the Toronto zone?
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 10/09/08 at 08:12 PM ET
I think half the bench has lost some speed…
Posted by eyesris from Asheville, NC on 10/09/08 at 08:12 PM ET
Fresh shaker of SKYY and the RW Martini glass is in hand…....3rd period!
Dog gets a biscuit each time the Wings score. dog is looking pissed & hungry…....nice doggy. Where did I leave my hurl and a sliothar ?????
Posted by Rumbear from Top O da Hasek, sippin rum & catchin some rays on 10/09/08 at 08:13 PM ET
Hossa made a nice move in the middle to get away from the outside but again they got a stick on it. we do something good and they are right there

Gaithe Obair
Posted by Rumbear from Top O da Hasek, sippin rum & catchin some rays on 10/09/08 at 08:16 PM ET
Nothing fancy indeed. It’s been said already, but Hossa needs to take a little bit more time. I think he is hunting that..what..300th or 400th goal…(he is either at 299 or 399…)
Posted by eyesris from Asheville, NC on 10/09/08 at 08:17 PM ET
uncle mike’s accent is a little stronger this year…babbles is in mid-season form at least.
Posted by laerm from rochester, ny on 10/09/08 at 08:17 PM ET
I would consider giving up my firstborn to see Zetterberg, Hossa and Datsyuk out there together.
