Osgood, Lidstrom Both Sitting

Uncle Mike’s not taking chances on tonite’s game in Denver, not with two big ones against a real rival looming. Nick Lidstrom’s ankle hasn’t improved, (“It’s about the same as last night,’’ Lidstrom said.“Still swollen, can’t really move my foot the way I would have to in my skates. Day off tomorrow will help,”) and Conklin’s in net.
...trainers are being extra cautious with Chris Osgood’s strained groin. Osgood said he would know on Monday whether he’s playing Tuesday at home against Chicago. They haven’t made it official, but it’s safe to assume Conklin will start in the Winter Classic on Thursday, given Osgood’s injury.
George Sipple has more on Lidstrom’s injury. There is potential for sadness. I’m just warning you.
Although the initial X-rays were negative, Lidstrom said he might have further tests when the team comes back to Detroit. The Wings will take Sunday off and don’t play again until hosting the Blackhawks on Tuesday.
When Chris Chelios suffered a fractured tibia while blocking a shot in the preseason, initial X-rays didn’t reveal the injury.
“He had to do another (test) in Detroit, and it showed the fracture he had,” Lidstrom said. “I think you just want to make sure nothing is there.
“I can’t even remember the last time I had an injury like this. You always get hit in the foot with pucks, but it hit that spot where it swelled right away, and I can’t really tighten my skate on it. I don’t know how long it will be, really.”
Screw it. Fire up the Hasek.

Dammit Chief, now I have to drink during the day too…
Trying to maintain some semblance of sobriety given the imbibing of the holiday season. Maybe I need to up the dose… Jamaican White Rum and Black Tar Heroin only for me to get my fix… sad to say, but I’ll be the guy who is trainspotting in the corner of the Hasek all night.

Now we can wait for the “Lidstrom may miss months’ write-up!

Not exactly a replacement. . . but if Chelios plays, let’s hope he comes out trying to prove that Holland wasn’t crazy for signing/keeping him over Quincey. . .

the ‘d’ will suck even more w/o nick. they need a “tough” d-man, jackman from the blues would fit in nicely…maybe kenny can work some magic…i know the cap maybe a problem so trade malts and drapes (not that the blues would go for that)
personally i would like to see helms and the fin in the lineup next year.

I am in a foul mood today and am about to depart for the Ass Can with my 8 year old. 8 rows up, TV side next to Dive bench.
If you see a Wingnut boy with signage, that be us. Hope no Avholes near me.

Where do these idiots come from? The best I can say is the logic matches the grammar. As Tyler said, “...the things I see on the Internet…yeesh.”

Exactly, Tyler. Also, the December player movement freeze is in effect.
Barret frickin’ Jackman.

Let the tears begin.
And let the leadership step up. We have lots of that right.
Great. How about Raffy and Kroner stepping up and taking control of the PP and blue line. Here we go….

not to be the bearer of bad news, but x-rays can initially be negative ... to clear a break on a standard x-ray one needs to wait 3 or 4 days. an mri would tell right away, but it doesn’t sound like he got one.
btw, i’ve been reading this site for the last year or so but have yet to post. i watch the games on delay so it’s tough to take part in the live blogs, but it’s good to have a home here for those who have to suffer through the bubba feed and the like.

Not that I’m wishing for it in any way whatsoever, but…if Lidstrom is out for any serious period of time, it may actually be “just what the doctor ordered” to get their collective heads out of their butts and start playing defense with some urgency.

I think the period he was hurt last season helped rally the team together and spring them forward to a hot playoff run once he came back.
Having not read anything Wings-related the past few days being busy with the holidays, and coming back and reading a bunch of the comments I missed all at once, I realize that we sure are spoiled. Just look at some of the complaints we make around here… yes, they have to get better to win the Cup, but also there is little doubt they will make the playoffs yet again, while fanbases like that of the BBB Bs now look fondly on the past where their team made the playoffs each season, even though they just lost in the postseason.
Not to mention 0-16 puts it in perspective a bit…
