Pain in HD

Yes.  The Wing/Lightning (tilt, matchup) game (scrum, bonanza, faceoff, match, tete a tete) tonite is on HDNet.  Damn, now that’s some good news.  I can’t imagine being able to watch Derek Meetch on a wing in anything other than high definition.  And of course you know why Uncle Mike’s considering putting Meech on the wing, because Kris Draper’s out with a knee.  And Kirk Maltby’ s most likely out with a shoulder.  And Matt Ellis is out with, yeah, a head.

Here’s my stance on Wing injuries:  anyone but Zetterberg and Lidstrom.  I, like you, lull myself into some idiotic rationalization regarding ailments.  “As long as it’s not...”, or an even better one, “good thing he got hurt in November and not March.” I want to punch myself in the temple every time I catch myself thinking that, as if an injury in the first quarter of the season fulfills a quota that would prevent bad things in April.  Godddd...idiot.

Oh...you’re above that? Okaayyyy.  Lying liar.

Draper’s diagnosis is a sprained knee.  Estimated time of inactivity? Two weeks.  Draper’s prediction? Slightly less.

Bruce MacLeod/Macomb Daily Tribune

Draper was limited to ice treatments and sauna time Wednesday.

“They said a two-week injury,” said Draper. “I already told them I’m going to knock it down to 10 days.”

Khan(!)/MLive

“I’m just going to rest for a couple of days, 24-48 hours, see how swollen it gets; right now it’s not too bad,’’ Draper said. “From there, hopefully, we can start working out, rehabbing it and making sure it’s nice and strong.’’

Had the opportunity to sit next to the Florida beat writers last night. Good guys, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the idea of how different it would have been had the Wings been playing in DC and I had the same seating assignment.

Next to Khan(!), or--even better--Kulfan.  I imagine our conversation might go something like this…

---
Iwo:  Good evening Ted. I enjoy your work.  You’re very ambitious.

Kulfan:  Thank you.  Digging deep, peeling away the layers of this glorious team, is my life’s work.

Iwo: I can tell. You’re an impressive man.

Kulfan:  Yes. Yes I am.  What do you do?

Iwo: I blog.  I’m a blogger. A hockey blogger.

Kulfan: I have a blog, not sure where it is. Is yours with you? Do you carry it in a satchel?  Do you ever use the word “satchel”? I like it.  I use it sometimes when referring to different things just to gauge reactions.  “Did you put butter on your satchel this morning?” What’s the name of your blog?

Iwo:  Abel to Yzerman.

Kulfan: Abel to who?
---

* I guess you realize by now that, should you attend, tonite you’ll be seeing a matchup of the two early Hart favorites.  Our boy Hank and their boy Vinnie.  It’s must-see hockey, especially if you choose the HDNet option. Thankfully it’s butted right up against the NFL’s “biggest game of the year”, so no one will watch.  Oh, that’s right.  No one’s watching the football game either. The Cowboys and Pack are on the NFL network, proving that Gary Bettman has something to do with that league also.

* Hungry? Good. The Wings will be offering $1 hotdogs at the Joe very soon.  What? I’m not kidding.  It’s coming down the pike.  So.  $9 for a ticket.  $3 for a meal.  $7 for a beer.  $20 for parking.

And Derek Meech on the wing....priceless.

My first HD tv is expected to be delivered on Dec. 18th.  I’m only being patient because I don’t know what I’m missing.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

Wanna Feel Smart?

Does confusion make you sad? When you read words like "enigma" and phrases like "Thanks Gary. Ass", do you wonder why mean people speak in languages you don't understand? Fret no longer friend! The A2Y Glossary will bring you great joy and enlightenment.

How Others View The A2Y 19

"Hell, I guarantee the content co-opters at Abel to Yzerman were about to link this article under the heading “Bitter Blues Fans” again right up until they just read that last half-sentance. Thanks but no thanks, you Kukla hangers-on."
--St. Louis Game Time

"I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site."
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields

"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey

"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats

"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."
--Thhom

"I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think."
--Drew Sharp

"Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better."
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont

"Have you ever *read* A2Y? Its the most opinionated, juvenile stuff i've read."
--Paul Nicholson

"I actually like the Detroit team and have a sh&% load of respect for them, but their fans are the biggest douches next to Canadians."
--KStewy, PensBlog Commenter

"Just when it looks like we have bottomed out, the 19 hit a new low."
-A2Y legend, Hockeytown Todd

"And for the record, I don't hate the Red Wings, I hate their fans."
--Douche Bag at Puck Daddy who isn't Wyshynski

"You’re nothing but a douchebag ****, c3po. Go f**k yourself, and learn something about hockey in the process. Nothing ruins my day more than seeing your byline on the kk page."
--Hector, A2Y fan, statesman, Pittsburgh Chapter of Jonas Brothers Fan Club President

"I can just imagine the kindergarten teacher’s reaction when the tyke blurts out 'Mommy says Gary Bettman is a f*cking f*ckface! He wants to give ‘Rosby the bad touch.' ”
--Bella, of the 19

"A2Y is what other blog sites aspire to be when they fail to grow up: intelligent immaturity for the juvenile genius set”
--Captain Dennis Polonich, of the 19
