Panic Express De-railed

I hinted at this last night during the live-blog torture session but was already too stressed to address it fully.  I’ll be missing Game 5 altogether....no tv, radio, blackberry, telepathy, nothing but the friendly skies.

In fact I’ve been out of the loop all day and will be until tomorrow night. Feel free to use this as a conversation thread, as if I had to tell you that.

And, remember, there is nothing fun about the playoffs. Nothing. All they do is suck.

Yes, the playoffs suck.  They suck hard, they suck ballz, they suck, period.

There is one, and only one, moment when the playoffs do not suck, and it instantly becomes all worth it…

I know this doesn’t fit here, but CBC was just interviewing Tortorella after Tampax Bay’s shutout loss to the Devils - and he just chewed up and spit out a MSM-type that he called “brooksie” - eventually tellilng him, “Then get the f*** out of here!” on (Canadian) national tv!

And we thought Scotty was cranky…

Out of touch, Chief, You lucky bastard!  The rest of us will be using various “adult” solutions to remain “Out of Touch”, yet in touch, during The Game.  Rank continues to have it’s privileges.....  Nevertheless, rest assured that Babblecock will have nothing coherent to say, Bertuzzi will play, Huds will enjoy another round of nachos and Lang will have perfect hair as yet another set of wingers attempt to be the wind beneath his wings in the quest to “Find his Frigging Game” and I, yes I, will be firmly ensconced in the cheap seats here on the left coast…

Oh and those storm clouds on the horizon...Sharks over the Preds........
Waiter!
C’mon...if it was easy the Avs would be here.....
May the Joe be Rockin.....GO WINGS!

“Sharks over the Preds”

Is it really even worth the Wings bothering to win the series against Calgary?

Probably not, if you look at it that way.  (Wasn’t San Jose getting goals on something like 40% of their power play opportunities against Detroit?) Although I thought Nashville would put up a little more of a fight than they did.  San Jose is big and strong and fast, but the numbers of penalties the Predators committed was amazing.  It’s like the entire team had a collective brain fart.

Yeah, I know we wants no part of San Jose, but tell me that it didn’t thrill ya just a little bit to see those Preds pay up at the deadline to make a big playoff run, only to be hitting golf balls in the cow pasture this morning?

No Central Division banner. (After leading the division 90% of the season).

No playoff improvement.

No NUTHIN”!!

Works for me.....

Yeah, all that being said...I still wanted the Predators to win, because we’ve had their number all year.  I’ll tell you what, though - if the Wings find their way past Calgary, and find a way to beat San Jose...they’re the team to beat.

Well, I’ll be numbing myself with whatever is available, probably PBR, peyote and copious amounts of cough syrup. I’m getting too old for this stressful bullshit, maybe I should just start watching golf this time of year.

Or the Avs.

Flames 2

Giddyup.

‘’There’s not much happening,’’ Detroit forward Todd Bertuzzi said. ‘’We have to make smarter decisions.

‘’The guy with the puck is getting away from the two guys on the other side and being singled out. We got to stay closer together. Keep it simple.’’

Hmm, of all the analysis I’ve heard of games, plays, teams, etc over the years, I’ve never heard that one before.  Maybe Bert can bring some fresh perspective to this team on what adjustments to make.

Simple as it sounds, makes sense when you see them on the power play: that’s exactly what’s happening, and his suggestion might just be the solution.

Ya know, if Babblecock’s communication prowess is just as lofty during practice as it is with the media - it’s no wonder he can’t fix the PP/PK.

MELTDOWN.

If the league is serious about cracking down on this kind of crap, Calgary should end up with at least two people, maybe three, suspended for the next game.  McClennan is gone.  They should give him 10 games.  Iginla should get at least a game, and Nilsson too.

What a disgusting display.

So the question I have is this - did they put McLennan out there specifically as a headhunter? ‘Just go out there and take a whack at someone!’ It’s not as if the Mule ran into him or anything. The whole thing seemed oddly suspicious to me.

So how did everyone like NBC showing the “Puttin’ on the foil!” clip from Slap Shot during that sorry excuse of a 3rd period?  It was almost as if they were encouraging the Flamers’ goonery.  Almost.

I hate to say it, but IwoCPO you missed the best game of the series.  Holy crap. Hasek was unreal. Lang was unbeatbale on the draws. Samuelsson’s hit on Iginla? Freakin priceless.

And Cleary? I’m ordering my #11 Jersey today. Unbeleivable game.

Even Dats leveled Phaneuf…

<sniff> I’m all teary…

Datsyuk leveled Phaneuf????

I was out all afternoon and didn’t catch the game--just saw the bit with the hack on Franzen on the CBC pregame for the Van-Dallas game.  They didn’t mention anything else.

Did the entire Calgary team throw a collective temper tantrum like a frustrated toddler, or something?

(P.S.  Did Hudler make it back in the lineup?  If so, who sat for him?)

Yes, Hudler was in - Calder was out.

“Did the entire Calgary team throw a collective temper tantrum like a frustrated toddler, or something?”

Yes.

For those of you who, like me, can’t watch Hockey Night in Canada, you can watch Coach’s Corner online…

I’m not sure how long it takes them to get it online, though.

Yep, Dats on Celine…

Yep, Calgary lost their shit and looked like drunken beer-leaguers in the last few…

And yes, Hudler was in for Calder.

Great game, save for the crapola the Flames pulled in the waning minutes.

It’s time to fine the team, the coach, and throw out some suspensions.  Why?  Iginla admits their goonery was planned.

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=205090&hubname;=

“It was really about getting some fights going at that point to keep our energy up and carry some anger into the next game,” Iginla said with several new stitches over his left eye. “We’re not going away.”

Thank you Paul and TeamDub for the executive summary.  smile

Don Cherry figures the Flames will win in Calgary and then return to Detroit, where “they will be on their own.” Called the hack on Franzen a “little tap” and said the reason for it was because he got raked across the face by Franzen’s stick earlier (after he slapped Franzen several times before that).  Mentioned nothing about Iginla or Langkow.  That’s about it.

(Rest of the time was Sean Hill and how kids shouldn’t do drugs.)

Figures Cherry would be his usual Canadian homer self.  He should do the world a favor and end his TV career - he’s just a bitter old man who is far too full of himself.

Datsyuk leveled Phaneuf????

Phaneuf went to check Pavel, who saw him coming, braced himself and put the shoulder into Phaneuf who went down in a heap.

Some Playfair quotes from before the game, that are all too ironic.

And I think on the road sometimes, or this year, we haven’t stayed composed. But I think it’s something we can change, I think it’s something we know we have to, and that’s what our goal is: stay aggressive and stay composed…

Like I said, I think we’re a lot more composed at home and I think we’re going to try and take that on the road. We’re going to take it on the road.

So what home-game elements do you want to bring to Joe Louis Arena?

“Our start, our discipline and our composure.”

I’ll be amazed if Playfair has a job next season.

...surprised Cherry didn’t throw a euro-softie jab at Mule.

Me, too.  He’s probably saving some of that up for when he does the Cup finals on NBC with Brett Hull.  They can talk about how soft teams with too many Europeans are.  Their renowned softness must be why none of the playoff teams have European captains, just good solid tough Canadians.  wink
