Your opposing bloggers are listed to the port side. You’ll find the regulars there: Battle of Alberta, Red Mile, Double D, Five Hole Fanatics and Flames Blog.
Your Wing bloggers are, as always, in the section titled, “Head to Hockeytown.” And while their counterparts in Calgary have been asleep at the switch, clearly very satisfied at just getting in, the Wing blogs are ramping it up.
Christy at BTJ has a comprehensive preview, breaking down the two teams in several areas.
So how will these two teams matchup? Most people will probably pick Calgary to win based on (1) the Wings’ most recent playoff performances and (2) that the Flames have fought their way into a playoff spot and have some momentum heading into the playoffs. I’m praying and believing that the Wings have what it takes this postseason to beat Calgary in the first round.
On the Wings’ Matt Saler also offers some early thoughts.
I can’t say I’m thrilled about this matchup any more. A couple weeks ago, the Flames looked like they were floundering and seemed like a desirable team to play. Now, they’re scary, as Helene St. James outlines. As both Detroit wins came at JLA, the Wings’ home ice advantage could be key. It’ll be a tough series, that’s for sure, but maybe that’s what the Wings need. I do have a different feeling about this team, and I know they’re more capable of fighting for their lives than previous complacent Wings teams.
A couple standard good points from Dave at Gorilla Crouch, as well.
Losing Nik Kronwall will obviously put more pressure on Detroit’s defensive corps. But every team has some questions heading into the playoffs. The main thing that gives you some reason to believe that the Wings could be successful this year is they have addressed their biggest needs: goaltending and adding players who can score goals in close.
Finally, keep your eye on Gloveside. They’ve been preparing all year for this, and I’m sure they’ll be, at the very least, the second wittiest Wing blog around.

Should be an interesting series, looking forward to seeing the ‘other side’s’ perspective.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. It’s been an emotional grind for Flames bloggers the last few weeks. Going from 10 points up on the Avs to basically praying for them to lose in the last few games has been taxing, to say the least. But, worry not, we’ll ramp it up in preparation for the upcoming series.
