Prepare For Impact

Thanks to Okie for sending this on.  Detroit News front page has been updated, and just like A2Y the last two days...it’s all Mac.

John Niyo reports that the rib injury is “minor” and that McCarty may play one more game with Grand Rapids, but is eager to join the Wings ASAP.

“I’m definitely feeling good, both mentally and physically,” said McCarty, 35, who signed a prorated one-year contract with the Wings on Feb. 25. “And I’m ready to get in here and make my presence known.”

His conditioning stint is scheduled to end Monday, but it’s unclear when he’ll make his return to the Wings’ lineup.

“You’ve gotta earn it, just like everybody else,” McCarty said. “Like I said before, I’m just here to complement the role (players) and fill a role and help this team win. I’ve gotta earn my spot, and hopefully I’ll get that opportunity.”

Free Press has a bit too.

Darren McCarty stopped by the Red Wings’ training room this morning for a checkup on his injured ribs and said any anxiety in returning to his old haunt soon faded when he saw old friends at Joe Louis Arena.

“Driving down here this morning I didn’t know what to expect, but not really (too nervous) because a lot of the guys are still here,” he said. “So it’s seeing some familiar faces and meeting a few new guys. It feels like home, it does. I’m just grateful to be back around.”

Khan(!) doesn’t have any McCarty quotes but he does have an update from practice.

Tomas Kopecky practiced and said he’s feeling fine after taking an elbow to the head from Jeff Woywitka of St. Louis on Wednesday. Kopecky called it a dirty hit. Valtteri Filppula didn’t practice due to an unspecified leg injury, but coach Mike Babcock said he’ll be ready to play Sunday. Dan Cleary (fractured jaw) is making real good progress and said he hopes to return on March 25 in St. Louis. Nicklas Lidstrom (sprained knee) said he feels good and should be ready for Sunday.

“Unspecified leg injury....ready to play Sunday.”

In other words, count Filppula out for Sunday.

Ohh—and just like the lemmings that the Diggers are, the FREEP has done the same thing—on the frontpage as well.

In one of Chief’s earlier MAC blogs, the idea has been tossed around that Drake should center a line with Downey and Big Mac (Stuart and Lil’s or Rafalski on D).

Although some do protest (even me, a little, since they would be skating slower than Hatcher), the idea has some great merit.  Like putting them out there when games are out of hand—you know like the recent Blue Note game. cheese

I liken the potential line to the Hanson Brothers!!

The Organization could market the Hell out of it.  Like a poster with Drake, Mac, and Downey sporting the horn-rim glasses - complete with tape—give them wooden sticks too!!!

I’m having warm fuzzies just thinking about how that would have played out at the end of the STL game!!!!

Chief, all:
Did you see MacLeod’s latest post on even strength scoring?  He’s got some interesting insight on scoring at even strength and with ice time factored in.  Interesting stuff.  Crazy how he is over and above the more well known sportswriters at the News and Free Press.

All have a good weekend.

I was about three people to the right of Mac looking at the media scrum surrounding him. I probably would have been a bit overwhelmed dealing with all those people and the bright lights from the TV cameras…

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

How Others View The A2Y 19

"Hell, I guarantee the content co-opters at Abel to Yzerman were about to link this article under the heading “Bitter Blues Fans” again right up until they just read that last half-sentance. Thanks but no thanks, you Kukla hangers-on."
--St. Louis Game Time

"I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site."
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields

"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey

"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats

"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."
--Thhom

"I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think."
--Drew Sharp

"Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better."
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont

"Have you ever *read* A2Y? Its the most opinionated, juvenile stuff i've read."
--Paul Nicholson

"I actually like the Detroit team and have a sh&% load of respect for them, but their fans are the biggest douches next to Canadians."
--KStewy, PensBlog Commenter

"Just when it looks like we have bottomed out, the 19 hit a new low."
-A2Y legend, Hockeytown Todd

"And for the record, I don't hate the Red Wings, I hate their fans."
--Douche Bag at Puck Daddy who isn't Wyshynski

"You’re nothing but a douchebag ****, c3po. Go f**k yourself, and learn something about hockey in the process. Nothing ruins my day more than seeing your byline on the kk page."
--Hector, A2Y fan, statesman, Pittsburgh Chapter of Jonas Brothers Fan Club President

"I can just imagine the kindergarten teacher’s reaction when the tyke blurts out 'Mommy says Gary Bettman is a f*cking f*ckface! He wants to give ‘Rosby the bad touch.' ”
