Previewing The Division That Gary Built: Third Man In and The Hawks

Dave at Gorilla Crouch is an ambitious dude. About a month ago he started sending out emails that sounded all official, suggesting Central Division bloggers join forces for one big, fat look at the Division Gary Gave Us. He laid out a schedule, wrote us some promotional verbiage and set the stage for a three-week bonanza.
Today, Chris at Third Man In starts us off with a look at the team that Wirtz Tried To Destroy. Things are looking up in Chicago. And why wouldn’t they with The Enigma on board?
He’s bigger (6’3”–220lbs) than you’d think and uses that size well when positioning himself in the slot. Not the greatest puck handler, but a slick passer with a deceptively strong shot. It’s been eight seasons since he’s totaled less than 50 points. Detroit’s cast-off, garbage is the Blackhawks recycled number one center.
Note to photographers covering the Hawks this year: Position yourself on Bob’s left side. He prefers that angle for his closeups. Typically, the first eleven seconds of any shift are spent searching for lenses and primping his hair in anticipation of shutters and flashes. Striking.
Note to Hawk fans: Expect nothing and be satisfied with minimal effort. Drink heavily before each game (as if I have to tell Chicago fans that…and that’s not an insult so take it easy). It will ease the pain of having to watch Smiling Bob Lang casually lose faceoffs, casually back check, casually turn the puck over then immediately smile and wave to the crowd like Brian Boitano’s long-lost sister. Good riddance. If there was ever a player who betrayed the system Mike Babcock has tried to employ in Detroit, it’s him. Lang is the anti-Babcock.
Chris has split his preview into two parts, so look for another chapter tonite at Third Man In. Read the rest of the first installment, including good looks at former Wings Martin Lapointe and Jason Williams, here.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. I’m thrilled that Chicago has a blogging presence now (they already had a Wirtz-hatred presence).
