Quincey Out of the Running…For Now

Brent Sopel’s a happy boy today.  Because nothing makes you smile like the misfortune of others, at least that’s the case when you used to make millions and now you’re about a 50/50 shot of playing in the NHL this year--at least for the Wings.

Kulfan/Detroit News

There’s one fewer candidate to win a roster spot on the Red Wings defense.

Kyle Quincey was walking around the locker room Friday with a cast on his left hand, the result of a broken bone suffered during intra-squad scrimmages back in Traverse City earlier in the month.

Does this injury really change the situation much?  From the sound of it, Quincey was headed for GR anyway, leaving the battle for the final spot between Sopel and Meech.

OT: Anyone having any luck at all with CI online? I show all 4 games, yet no video or audio. Both IE and FF.

Yep, I’m ready to plunk down MY $150!

Working fine for me Dub.  Heard the leafs announcer deflate on Kronwall’s goal.

I may actually do this online thing; do you guys know if I would just have to tap into the away feed in order to watch wings games because of the local blackouts?

Also, are we this homerish on our broadcasts? self lovin until you’re blue and white in the hands i guess....

Fantastic.

After being able to watch roughly 40% of this game, the whole kit and kaboodle decides to freeze up with a few minutes left.

Tell you what, NHL/Neulion (sounds ominously euro-trashy) give me this travesty free for this season, make it work right at least 90% of the time and I’m a buyer next year. Period.

I wouldn’t pay $20 for this headache.

(enh, yeah I would… I just can’t help being mesmerized by our one-dimensional pluggers, even if it 640x480 at 6 FPS. And no audio.)

Sopel travelled with the Red Wings to Toronto on Friday afternoon, and was scheduled to play against the Maple Leafs in a pre-season game that night, but informed the team shortly before the game that he was in serious contract talks with another club.

He had been in Detroit’s training camp on a tryout basis, and was offered a contract by the Red Wings shortly before signing with Chicago.

Disaster averted.

Sure, he’d be an occasional distraction from the usual “Oh my g*d Lilja,” but his offense is more than offset by his Langsian tendencies.

With all due respect to the Leafs (it should be Leaves you queen worshiping dolts), we’re going to spank you tomorrow. You will, however, have the hope gained from splitting the PREseason series with one of two original 6 teams who still have respect in the league.

6 goals...I would be *shocked* to see you get two tomorrow…

good pace to the game though eh

From my pixelated, freeze-frame mute point of view, it seemed like it.

Wow, thanks for the heads up, Gang! I’ll stick with only the Center Ice TV package. 640x480 6fps and all the dropped connections would make me punch my screen repeatedly. And I like my screen.

I still wish i could see pre-season.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey

"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats

"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."
--Thhom

"I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think."
--Drew Sharp

"Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better."

"Have you ever *read* A2Y? Its the most opinionated, juvenile stuff i've read."
