So, I guess this statement from Mike Babcock last night…
“...it’s very obvious we don’t have a lot of natural goal scorers…”
...goes hand-in-hand with this refreshing ditty from Tick Tock Kenny Holland.
“He’s probably out awhile,” general manager Ken Holland said, “but I don’t know long awhile is.”
Yep, he’s talking about our boy Charlie Buckets (link to the glossary).
Speaking of Tick Tock. Just a heads-up, and this may conflict with Gary’s CBA, but the trade deadline doesn’t mean you’re restricted to trading only on trade deadline day. It’s the last day you’re allowed to trade.
So, you know, if you wanted to get creative and maybe text some of your BFFs, maybe get us a, I don’t know, goal scorer? That would be neat. Thanks.
Because ours are all injured (Cleary, Franzen, Fil, Williams) or in some sort of funk that has them sad, snake-bit and whiskey-dicked (Datsyuk, Son of Sam, Lidstrom).

Once we deplete the Griffins of their talent (almost there already) we can always tap into the AA system.
What, me worry?

The really, really most painful part of this mess called the 09-10 season???It’s the pleasure, the joy these evil bast**ds take in beating us while we are down. Well, imagine someone walking past an injured animal , which is trying it’s hardest to get to the side of the road with a busted up hind end. This someone then drags him back into the road to get hit again. We are hurtin’, bitches, we are down, and there is not a sliver of mercy out there for the Late Great Detroit Red Wings. Just kicks, and beatings, and spitting, and cursing. Yet, my love for the Winged Wheel sweater somehow, magically, is growing.

See ya’ll in September.
Last 7 home games: 1-5-1, three shutouts against.
On those 3 blank games, 122 shots on goal, 0-for-15 PP.
On those 3 games, our goalies (James twice, Osgood once) have suffered 6 goals total, had a 91,1 save percentage, and the PK is 1-for-10.
Faux.
And when will Kenny start doing his job? Right now he looks more like a doctor coming to us and saying there’s not much hope left.
I hate this season.

If it gets to the point of King Cobra, I’m in. For some reason I love that shit.
The problem with this season is Mr. Tock is handcuffed by the Slavery—I mean, Salary Cap. He could go out and try to find someone to replace those who have fallen, but someone would have to go the other way more than likely…
... Rafailski, perhaps? NTC or not, that contract is an extremely large, dead bird hanging around the neck of the ‘Zation.

The Avs went through this same thing last year. All of their AHL’ers got called up (including the coach). They had over 50 people rotate through the AHL roster. Now they’re doing better than they had in years.
But this does suck!

U really want to get rid of Raf? So we could play entire games in our end? Not trying to be inflammatory here, but trading away our number 2 d man to get some offense seems a little counter productive. I do understand your point though, Tick Tock is pretty hog tied here. No other GM is out there looking to hook up the Wings. We aren’t gonna get anything for free.
Damnit I miss the motherfauxing Mule.

Was already going to post just “R.S.V.”, then read this.
Kenny IS doing his job. The Franchise is operating under a strict Communist system and always keeps the long term picture in focus. You don’t see knee jerk reactions that have devastating long term consequences.
They saw the loss of most of those several goal scorers and knew this year would be different. No one could anticipate the depth of injuries added on to it. Well, it was unlikely that it would be this invasive.
Abbadoo was supposed to be in GR all year for further maturing and strengthening, but he’s been up for every game and starting now at 2d center, WTF?
No one is going to jettison a wad of players to land one big name goal scorer who may not pan out that way here (calling Enigma, hello Enigma).
They can’t do much right now but the injuries are disturbingly going to run longer into this nightmare than we thought. It is clear that the best we can hope for is to be on the edge or on the bubble of the playoff teams and get healthy for a stretch drive the last 21 game of the season.
That still may be asking too much.

Can’t trade, it’s not worth it. This team will have a better cap situation next season that may present them with the ability to bring in a free agent to bolster the forward corps and put them back in legitimate Cup contention. If you start trading chips just to try to stay afloat this season (a season in which you don’t appear to be much more than a middle-of-the-playoff-pack team), you are mortgaging the future for something that just plain does not matter.
If this team were sustaining these injuries, but was playing very well otherwise, and had shown us all something that led us to believe they could truly compete for the Cup this season, then I’d say make a trade, do something to stop the (literal) bleeding. But they aren’t playing that well. So all a trade would do is feed into the illusion that this team could win a Cup this year, when they likely cannot, and hurt their chances in future years by shipping younger talent out.
Oh, and nevermind the cap. I just don’t see how they could make a trade for anyone that could make an impact. At best, they could bring in a veteran scorer that’s got little touch left. I say the better idea is just to weather the storm with what you have. If you get through it and are still within striking distance of the playoffs around the deadline, then maybe you consider making a deadline day deal to bolster your scoring.
Because if this team is still in the thick of it after the Olympic break, they will be the one team nobody wants to play in the playoffs. Nobody is going to want to run into a club that A) looks fundamentally different than what they saw most of the season because all that talent is back from injury and B) is getting the talent and emotional boost from having guys like Flip, Cleary, Franzen, and Kronwall fresh and ready to unleash on the league down the stretch.
I don’t mean to be negative, I’m just trying to be realistic. As we should all know very well being Wings fans, you make trades when you think you’re one, even two pieces away from hoisting the Cup. If we’re being honest, we know that’s likely not the case this year, so it’d be foolish to act as such and make a trade. This team is set up to be as good as any team over the long haul in a cap system, with the contracts they have Z, Pav, Franzen, Flip, Cleary, Kronwall, and Stuart under. Next year could be a quick turn-around (especially as we watch Chicago shed their auxiliary talent while we likely add a reinforcement or two). Let’s not ruin what could be Cup runs in the next few years to try and make one that’s a clear pipe dream this season.

Nathan is right. Holland wrote off the 2009-2010 season as soon as Crosby and Gary shared a warm embrase at center ice of the Joe. He isn’t going to do anything this year. I don’t think there will even be a trade at the deadline, regardless of standings (buying or selling). You are looking at your roster. He doesn’t want to mortgage any more future seasons because this year’s team isn’t going to do anything, short of a mule-backed miracle. The only chance you have to pick up a new non-GR player would be through another waived player.

I don’t think a trade is going to help us. This means Leino’s definitely back in the lineup and he’s gotta produce.
Failing that, I’d bring Kindl back up and move Meech to fourth line forward, promoting Drew Miller. Also, I think it’s time that Uncle Mike starts considering Draper-Helm-Eaves our second line. Let them know that they’re going to get second line minutes and will be expected to score like a second line.
Failing that, give Tatar a chance. He’s the closest thing to a power forward we’ve got.
Failing all that, resort to sabotaging the other team, paying off the refs, surreptitious old-style-Chelios gooning, and virgin sacrifice. Anything for a three game win streak.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 12/10/09 at 09:07 AM ET
By the way, I think we can’t keep using the Hossa/Hudler/Sammy argument for this poor season (I mean, we don’t use it, but the media does).
Every team lost someone to freee agency, the difference is that they had the time to get in the new sytem, while we lost a lot of players to injuries, to the point we never used our “real lineup”.
The closest we’ve been to it was the Opening in North America, against Chicago, and it was a good game.

No trade. Not to just make the playoffs where we might not make a dent. Unfortunately, it may come down to that and financial dictates (a franchise makes a disproportionate amount of its cash in the playoffs) tell Mr. I to make a trade and he tells Kenny. But please…
...No trade. Bitches.

OK, here’s a wonky and crazy idea. Dress Amazon, keep Leino benched. (piss him off real good, and if he isn’t gonna respond then maybe this whole North American thing just isn’t gonna work out for him, But for the record I think he will.) And put the Big Rig on forward. Why not try it? Dress him as the number 2 center. Him and Bert on the same line could be interesting. Couple of big bodies. They’ll never do it I’m sure, but it really seems to me that we need some more size up front. And he’s the biggest guy on the team who used to play center. So WTF? Try it…

These are the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.

Some very good news: Jimmah is a stud!
Kenny always trades at the deadline, but nothing earth-shattering.
I think he will (privately) call this year a success if the Wings make the playoffs.
Look for him to make big move(s) early in free-agency next summer.

Ok, so this blows.
I feel bad for Buckets because he has no chance of making the Canadian team now. I know he already put himself on the outside by playing poorly but this puts and end to that.
However.
Do you guys remember the 93-94’ season when Stevie went down? We had Keith Fuching Primeau on that team.
But Sergei stepped up and had an MVP season. Granted we didn’t do anything in the playoffs (fuch you Leafs) but we saw the birth of a superstar.
This season belongs to Pav and Z. King Lidas, no matter how great, is not a goal scorer and cannot do what the EuroTwins can do. They simply have to become co-MVPs for us to make the playoffs.

I think I’d call it a minor miracle.
Last night, I thought the Wings played pretty good, and with grit and determination. The China-Man fire drill on the GA was an exception.
But that illustrates the ugly truth - - the roster has no scoring depth. Sure the Circus had chances. But all season, we have been griping that Helm has alot of chances, and cannot finish . . . ditto for Bert and whatever other Wing you can think of.
Abby a 2nd line center - - he is a great kid, lots of passion, but c’mon a 2 liner?
Willy - Wally - Mule - - that is a 2 line. Draper-Helm-Eaves makes a great 3 line.
The Long Cold Winter is upon us.
