Thanks to Peter Gower over at the MLive message board for the pointer to a great story in today’s Washington Post on Sergei Fedorov.
They were at MCI Center the following year. Konstantinov watched in a wheelchair as Fedorov and the Red Wings won their second straight Stanley Cup, defeating the Capitals in four games. Konstantinov was wheeled down to the ice afterward for the celebration.
“Scotty Bowman’s speech before the last game we play was, ‘Guys, I don’t know much to say about hockey but one thing I like to say is I’d trade all my rings for this win tonight, and let’s do it for Vladi,’ ” Fedorov said. “That was most incredible moment in my career in how humanly and great Coach was.”

Nice article, other than the author’s seeming inability to spell “Larianov” properly…

I am happy for Fedorov. He was always a class act in Detroit and became a great defensive player under Scotty Bowman. Now he is getting the chance to play with one of the brightest stars in the NHL. I hated to see him leave Detroit but now he is where he belongs. Finishing his career with Ovechkin must make him feel like a kid again. I like the way he describes Coach Bowman as human. Who would have thought…..

I hope he does some great things during the playoffs for the Caps. The GWG against the Panthers that got them in was a classic. I think Red Wings fans remember this expression. Go Caps!

I myself was okay with Fedorov leaving town. I was willing to help him pack at the time. Now i’m starting to wonder about the Sergei curse….think about it…..

I will always miss Fedorov on the Wings. Always. It is part of the reason I’m pulling for Washington in the East (well for awhile anyway). It is great to see him smiling again playing hockey and what a kick to have him back in the playoffs.

I was sorry to see Fedorov leave Detroit when he did, and even sorrier to hear how some fans treated him when he made that decision. As if I needed another reason to cheer the Caps past the F-ing Flyers. Thanks for linking the article.
