Sammy Goes NSFW

Sometimes every day seems like the same old cliche. Stale, tired quotes. Recycled over and over. “One shift at a time.” “We need a full sixty minutes.” “My name is Pinky. I have a Journalism degree.” And my favorite, “We just need more puck luck.”
And then there’s Sammy. Apparently unhappy about being left off the Swedish Olympic team…
Mikael Samuelsson’s response to not making Swedish Olympic team. “They can go f**k themselves”.
Awesome.
In defense of the team Nick Lidstrom probably scribbled out and faxed to Stockholm from his den over the weekend, Sammy’s had a problem scoring of late. 1 goal his last 23 games.

That’s the most beautiful thing I’ve read in days!

What’s up with players? Last month, a Corinthians players leaving the field after a robbery by the referee: “I’ll get in trouble for this, but this ref is a piece of shit”.
Now Sammy. Yet, Tuzzi is the Wings best scorer and is quiet as a voodoo doll.

Oh, Sammy. I always called you the world’s crankiest Swede. ![]()
If Forsberg’s ankles disintegrate and Sammy gets on a hot streak again, I think he might have a chance. There is no way they want him on the team if he isn’t scoring, but if he can start another streak where everything goes in the net, they might be a lot more interested.

And my mom, my brother-in-law and I were discussing Voldemort over the holiday break.
They think I’m being too hard on him. :(

Mrs. B, Tuzzi will stop scoring the minute you say something nice about him (it?). Be quiet.

Oh, don’t worry, Guilherme. He’s got more than just one bad year to make up for - he’s been crummy for a while.
I told her he has to at least go to the Olympic break without killing anyone, keeping the stupid penalties low, playing well defensively, and helping Lidstrom and Datsyuk get points and the team get wins.
Maybe my stance will change in February, but not yet. I still don’t trust him to not resume being a useless hockey player at any moment.

If he’s scratched, it will be the third time Leino has been benched this season. When asked about what he needs to do, Leino has repeated the same answer—“Win more battles and score more goals.”
Wrong answer, Babcock said.
“Everything here is about competition level for every guy, whether you are Pavel Datsyuk or Nick Lidstrom or Chris Osgood,” Babcock said. “It’s simple. The way you make sure you play and get as much ice as you want is you compete every day in practice and compete every time you get a chance. If you do that with your skill set, normally everything looks after itself.”
From the Detroit News, a bit of Babcockian to start off the day.

So… they don’t talk to each other? Babs just stares at Leino and prays he gets the message? Or is Ville plain dumb?
And on another subject: Helm is God. I missed the game, just saw the “save”. Whoa. And to me that’s another proof that the team plays better with Howard on net. I mean, Helm’s save, Ericsson saved one or two, Meech another, Stuart has like nine saves…
It seems the defense really knows the stuff Howard does wrong, and it covers on the right place, while they spin like poisoned cockroaches when Osgood’s behind them.

Maybe you can tell the interviewer for your visa that you are going on a religious pilgrimage. To meet your new god. ![]()
Don’t know if you caught this before, but James Mirtle wrote a bit about Helm when he recapped the 2007 Memorial Cup, here: http://www.fromtherink.com/2007/05/2007-memorial-cup-agony-of-defeat.html

I don’t recall if it was after the Anaheim breakaway or after the Shift againt Chicago, but Helm’s been my God for a while.
I even considered not staying at Osrt’s place when I’m on Detroit, but I don’t think the U.S. Embassy would accept “Darren Helm’s frontyard tent” as my adress.
And great piece by Mirtle, how mature is that kid, huh?

Babcock’s theory of life is basically this, which I have written down above my desk as inspiration. It sounds like this is what he was saying in the 2nd paragraph.
“If the small stuff is perfect, the big stuff will take care of itself”

This was a business decision. The premiums for insuring all the Team Sweden players went down 60% when they promised that William Tell wouldn’t be firing slapshots at their faces on the power play.

can we call you young Helm Cockblock now?

who would know Sammy better than Lidstrom? maybe this is his way of pissing off Sammy - then at the last minute they’ll add him to the team and they’ll have a nasty, agitating Sammy out there running around the ice.

I’d be pissed too if I got passed over for Peter “Favre” Forsberg. I get that Forsberg’s a giant in Swedish hockey, but come on. Somebody’s gotta break it to him…
