Baroque just brought this up in the comments on a post below.
This is nuts. Watch the “Hockeytown: No Limits” commercial.
Notice anything every player featured has in common?
Except for one, eh? You can guess who’s next, I suppose.
Let it go. Skip the spins, the heaves, the sweats and just let ‘er fly.

It is eerie, though, isn’t it?

It’s nuts.
And I’d been using the Lake spelling for years. Thanks.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 12/17/09 at 10:33 PM ET
“Lake spelling?”
I think he means Erie.
We’ve won every game after a player has been injured right? so at least we’ll win again next game. :(

Where’d this defense come from? It’s really working. They’re working.
Can’t lose Lidstrom though…
Posted by Tyler from Arizona on 12/17/09 at 10:38 PM ET
Yes, I noticed that.
This is my post from the injury contest thread. I don’t want to really bring attention to this, but faux it, I will:
I don’t even want to play. But I will. I don’t even want to mention this, but I will: Last night, someone pointed out that only two players in the No Limits commercial remain in the lineup. So I’m going to say Hank, foot, 4 weeks.
Please, please, let me lose this contest.

Ah, okay. I get it.
Long week. Brain sluggish.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/17/09 at 10:39 PM ET
I was hoping that if I didn’t mention the commercial curse that at least some of the Wings could escape. With each player going down, I got more nervous.
Madden curse, my ass. :(

Quite simply, that’s beyond ignorant. But, giving the fact that he’s a Pens fan, I guess it also could be considered the norm. Mind-boggling.

I’m no pharmacist but I wonder if all the games the Wings players have played the last few years is starting to catch up to them. Not necessarily the cause of the injuries but body fatigue in general.

okay, well ya guys wanna hear some good news? With the shutout Jimmah’s save % climbed to .920. That ties him with Brodeur for 11th in the league. Ahead of Luongo, Lundqvist,Thomas, Backstrom…...annnnnd 32 spots ahead of Biron. just sayin.
Posted by Itrusteddrrahmani from Nyc by way of A2 on 12/18/09 at 12:44 AM ET
From looking at the replay of the hit, I’d say Hank likely got at least a strained shoulder, maybe separated. If it’s strained, he’ll prolly miss a couple weeks, and if separated then the same as Buckets, 3-6. Hank was reaching out with his left arm, and unfortunately Ohlund just caught him right underneath his armpit.
Okay hockey gods, the joke is over, fuch.

I picked a bad weekend to drive to Dallas and see the Wings play.
Posted by shanetx on 12/18/09 at 01:54 AM ET
Fuch.
I watched the hit live but without commentary (on mute, talking with girlfriend) and thought it was a clean hit for sure, and worse, that Z didn’t prepare himself for that. Z saw him, glanced at the puck and was leveled. Fuchhh.
And Leino with the suicide pass. Does he think a spinning blind backhand is an effective pass? He has tried that kind of pass before, annoyingly, but the one pass that got him a point is the nice centering feed to Homer. Head up, find your target pass.
I was rooting for him but like Shawn Burr (ran into Fedorov, you remember him:
) he is now on my shit list. For the moment. Do something to redeem yourself.

You know, with all the injuries this year, and then Big E going down, I thought we were all numb to it. Just smile and laugh.
Whattayaknow? We’re not.
*Bleeeeeeargh* We need a puking smiley.
Still. Jimmah, outplaying much-heralded Mike Smith. First NHL shutout. Way this season is going we might as well put him out there on his own and wrap our skaters in cotton.
So who’s next on the depth chart? Emmerton? Boy, we could use Joakim Andersson right about now. If Frolunda can’t give him ice time…
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 12/18/09 at 05:47 AM ET
Yeah, we were watching the game and that commercial came on, and I started running down the injury list. “Injured, injured, injured, injured… they’re all injured.” Then my girlfriend pipes up: “And Lidstrom’s old”.
Thanks hon.

Screw this sh*t. I just decided to blow off all my plans for the next few days, and drive up to Virginia , in an attempt to get snowed in for a few days. DirecTV and Center Ice, but no internet, so if the injury torture continues, I won’t embarrass myself online going all emo ‘n sh*t.
See ya in a few days, hopefully with 2 more “W”‘s under our belt.
I’m taking down the Virgin Mary off the dashboard, and replacing it with a Bertuzzi bobblehead.

So, just got to California, gonna be here for a couple of weeks for the holidays, and will now be able to be back online with regularity. Just popped in to say hey. Oh look at that, Zetterberg injured. If he is out for any length of time, he will be the NINTH starting Wing out injured. Unreal.
On a positive note, is it just me or is Jimmah materializing into a *#$%@& goalie and proving Kenny right?

And I’ll chip in for airfare to help Herm see a game in person for the first time, too.

Just checking the stats, and we are currently sitting at 8th in the league in goals allowed per game with 2.53. PK is now 14th in the league at 81.2. Considering how the season started, I really like those numbers. Let’s hope it keeps climbing.
Posted by stayouttamalibu from Temporarily in Tempe, AZ on 12/18/09 at 07:36 AM ET
A glimmer of hope (besides Tuzzi getting in a goal-scoring tizzy); Wally is back in a week-ish.
Posted by mrfluffy from Long Beach on 12/18/09 at 07:51 AM ET
I said this in the other thread, but it’s even more-true now.
Can you imagine the sheer panic and depression that’s going to set in the WIndbag City if the Wings can somehow take 3 or even all 4 of the points from Chicago coming up? It’d be absolutely beautiful, and devastating to Chicago’s psyche, and possibly just destroy their season…
I’ll be honest. At this point Z going down means very little. I mean, you’ve already got guys like Abby and Eaves playing lots and lots of PP time and carrying the offensive load. I don’t mean that to diss Z, but really… it’s not like Hank was scoring a bunch all this time and carrying the load himself (nor is Pavel). It’s Homer, Bertuzzi (*shudder*), Eaves, Miller, and even a guy like Newbury stepping up and getting lots of scoring chances.
Now if Bertuzzi or MIller goes down, THEN we’re apparently screwed.
By the way, didn’t I tell you guys we’d love Miller and he was a perfect fit? Yes, yes I did…
And finally. Nick hit the nail on the head last night in a postgame interview. Detroit played well defensively and gave him offensive help too, but Jimmy *earned* that shutout. He had to make some tough, big saves, and he did so confidently and without wavering at any point during that 60 minutes.
On a positive note, is it just me or is Jimmah materializing into a *#$%@& goalie and proving Kenny right?
Posted by stayouttamalibu from Temporarily in Tempe, AZ on 12/18/09 at 06:56 AM ET
It’s not just you. He’ s not fighting to make saves anymore like he was for a while there, he’s just plain making them. He’s also usually not scrambling to get back into position, because he’s already in position in case of a rebound. Maybe the best thing that could have happened for Jimmy is to come in when injuries are hitting and face a lot of shots nightly? It’s an interesting theory…

I regret suggesting in September trading Howard for Biron. After watching him for years in GR, I didn’t think he had the juice. He’s proving all his critics wrong.
I laughed an uncomfortable laugh watching that commercial. Maybe Jobu has had enough of Lidstrom’s Swedish meatballs and will pass him by.

And Leino with the suicide pass. Does he think a spinning blind backhand is an effective pass?
I gotta disagree here, Osrt. This is the second time I’ve seen that referred to as a suicide pass and it wasn’t. Hell, it wasn’t even a bad pass. I remember thinking when he made it that it was a superb decision. Leino was being angled off to get pinched at the blue line, he saw the open man streaking and threw a pass in that got us into the zone with speed. Yes, it would have been nice if he had thrown it about three feet more shallow than he had, but if Z had looked up and saw Ohlund ignoring the puck for the hit, he could have sidestepped him and found himself all alone against the goalie.

I don’t want to be Glass-Half-Full-Guy but we need to give Howard more time and I understand that the regular season is based on 25,000 knee-jerk reactions. Jimmy is playing fantastic, but if he can keep this up through February (and there will be a few bumps) we might have something here.
I mentioned it before, but this was Jimmy’s only shot. If Jimmy sucked AND Osgood sucked, we both know who was going next year.
re:Primis on Zetterberg. I know what you mean, it would be the same thing if Datsyuk went down. The way the Wings are playing I can’t really say that it resembles anything close to what we’re used to. Even the defense is a new thing. We’ve had GREAT defensive teams before, but it usually resulted because of puck possession. Now we have a very good defensive team based on good positioning and making the smart safe plays. I guess it’s kinda the same thing but we all know what we’re seeing.
It’s a fun (read: stress train) season to go through after all of the whining about how boring it usually was.
And initial reports out of Sweden is 3-5 weeks.
Posted by Heaton on 12/18/09 at 08:40 AM ET
I also want to point out that there is a very short clip of a goal celebration at 0:20 including Kronwall, someone tall (prob E), Draper, and Eaves. So I’m taking Draper as the next one down. Naturally it has to be a face injury. 2 games.
