And I really don’t care. You guys know how I feel about that here. In fact, this is the second reference I’ve made today to the warm feeling I get when the Wings lie to me. The first one was earlier and it was funny, but not one of you said anything about it so you don’t deserve another one.
Michael Farber says the Wings practically have a deal in place for a seven-year Gary’s ball breaker with Hossa.
Now Ansar Khan(!) reports that Tick Tock Kenny Holland says nope.
Golly. Looks like we have a quandary.
“While nothing will be announced during the Stanley Cup final, unrestricted free agent Marian Hossa likely will be signing a long-term deal, believed to be seven years, to stay with the Red Wings.’‘
That was Farber a bit earlier today.
This is the Deep Digger Captain, taking in what Lake Kenny can send him.
“There is no agreement on a deal,’’ Holland said. “We’ve never conversations about a seven-year deal in the three months I have talked to him. No truth to it.’‘
Oh. Oh, it hurts. It hurts when Kenny lies to us but I have this familiar feeling.
Kenny’s a lying liar. Farber got that from somebody, somebody smart but dumb. Get it? Boy, you gotta be some kinda dumb to let that cat out of the bag today of all days.
Right? Don’t you?
Or…I wonder how much news like that is going to irritate little Thid and his sisters?

Yeah you can’t really put any stock into Holland’s response, he’s gonna say that no matter what the truth is.
As for the game, the depth scoring was nice in the first 2 games, but time to cram our primary scoring down their frigging throats tonight. I’m looking for a big offensive night from Hank, no more posts, no more cute little dekes. Bury it. I wanna see whoever the hell Pitt has for a backup goalie. Break their gawddamn necks.

I really hope it’s true…I want Hoss here long-term. Last time Hoss came off of a 2A game was Game 3 of the Chi series…we all know what happened in Game 4. I like him finding the back of the net again tonight.

When I turned on the television, I saw the end of PTI on ESPN - Tony Kornheiser wished Gary Bettman a happy birthday ...
... and for a birthday gift to himself, he said (paraphrasing) that Bettman ordered the referees to make sure the Penguins win the next two games, and that Sidney Crosby has a hat trick in each.

I’m thinking more likely that this rumour is a mangled version of one of the deals that Holland and Hossa’s agent were discussing earlier. He has never negotiated with players during the playoffs before - and I thought that they couldn’t sign Hossa before July 1st anyway because of some esoteric clause in the CBA? If you have until July 1st, why have anything be a distraction during the playoffs?

He could have just as easily said we haven’t talked since the playoffs started, and trust me, there isn’t a word in any statement the man has ever given that wasn’t meticulously planned out.

For those who are sticklers on grammar and semantics… “I have talked to him”. Who is him? Hossa or his agent? During the playoffs, I’d have to assume you do NOT talk contracts with a player. So.. who is Kenny talking about in the quote??Regardless, all eyes on the prize.

I know Garth, my point was he said before they don’t do any talking about a deal during the playoffs, not that they haven’t talked AT ALL. Obviously they’ve talked for the past several months prior to the playoffs.
To me, if there really was zero truth to it, Kenny would have just repeated what he said in April, that they don’t talk during the playoffs, so there is no possible way anything new has been negotiated.

Why? He said there’s no truth to it. Why beat around the bush and try to tease by saying we’ve been talking, or lie by saying we haven’t been talking (or whatever the truth is).
He wants to keep the focus on the series. What if he told, for instance, Sammy’s agent that they weren’t going to negotiate during the playoffs, but has been negotiating with Hossa?
To me, the less said the better.
If he said that there were no negotiations and there absolutely would not be any until after the finals are over, people would say “well, that does that mean they’re not formally negotiating, and just tossing numbers around or what?”
People are going to speculate about whether he’s telling the truth or lying no matter what he says, so what does it matter what he says?

As I said on he KK post, I don’t buy it.
But I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if this was a mind game out of the Penguins front office. An attempt to get the Wings and Hossa in particular to think about anything but the game tonite.
It might even have enough legs to make it to game 4.
