In one of the greatest upsets in Live Blog sponsorship history, it was J. Geils over Aerosmith by a single vote.
And believe you me, I had a whole series of Perry/Tyler lyrics lined up.
It’s an O-6 Live Blog bitches, with some help from Peter Wolf. I’ll be joining you a little late, taping the game and catching up with you all around 1930.

Find a cat Andrew, cats are much better sacrifices

Oh goody, just what I needed to know: four-on-four, we’ve got the worst goal differential in the League at -5.
As if I needed another excuse to drink.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 11/29/08 at 07:36 PM ET
Make that -6. Was that their second shot of the game?
Ugh.

Drink up bitches.

God. That was weak. He wasn’t even screened.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 11/29/08 at 07:37 PM ET
Does Conklin realize he’s supposed to stop those?
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 11/29/08 at 07:37 PM ET
Double damnit—
OU better play much better.
Sickening— Wings play pretty damn well, it seems Wing mistakes always end up in our net.
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 11/29/08 at 07:38 PM ET
2 GA on 3 frigging shots
What do youd ay about that
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 11/29/08 at 07:38 PM ET
WOW—Conklin actually made a save—whats that all about?
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 11/29/08 at 07:39 PM ET
It seems we are incapable of getting the puck off the ice on flurries - they’ve had Fernandez beat a few times (Cleary’s big chance early comes to mind)....
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 11/29/08 at 07:40 PM ET
I just had a flash of 3-0. Yet Conks…made the…save. Hm.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 11/29/08 at 07:41 PM ET
Boston’s all over us - did the Wings and Griffins switch for this one?
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 11/29/08 at 07:42 PM ET
Matt—the phrase “not burying our chances” comes to mind
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 11/29/08 at 07:42 PM ET
It’s no fun watching this team struggle night in, night out. I’m ready to stop watching this crap until they’re playing well again, but that would be bandwagoner behavior.
Posted by Tyler from Arizona on 11/29/08 at 07:43 PM ET
It appears that when the game is aired on NASN and I make it to the liveblog, we lose. Uh oh.
Rumbear, you can come out of the kitchen. I’ll go back to bed and not watch another game until June.

Belle Tire commercials make me want to punch infants…

Conks with a whopping .714 save%
Of course the 1st goal not really his fault—Lil’s with the matador defense—yak!
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 11/29/08 at 07:53 PM ET
Local GR commercial: Downey in a jacuzzi with rubber duckies. Did not need to see that.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 11/29/08 at 07:55 PM ET
I’ll check in regularly, but I gotta watch the Sooners and hope they start much better than the Wings tonite!!
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 11/29/08 at 07:59 PM ET
So, it’s gonna be one of those games where the Wings dominate, and yet lose.
Goaltending is an issue. Can’t have the guy at the other end stop four point-blank chances, only to have your guy give up a softy.
Posted by Nathan on 11/29/08 at 08:00 PM ET
This is insane. I’m trying to shuffle between three different neighborhood post-thanksgiving parties and watch the game at the same time. If we lose, I blame myself. But I’ll tell you this, these folks better not get too comfortable. Fire is fire and wood is wood.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 11/29/08 at 08:00 PM ET
I’m ready to stop watching this crap
To each their own. I just want to sit down for a game and actually look forward to it. Chief used a Shawshank moment earlier…I would say that watching the Wings play is like Andy fighting off the queens.
You don’t have a choice. It’s something you have to do. But whether you’re successful or not, you’re just just glad it’s over.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 11/29/08 at 08:00 PM ET
The Wings haven’t dominated this game since the first Boston goal. The Bruins have been in charge since their second.
And this is not a good start to the second period.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 11/29/08 at 08:01 PM ET
And kudos to Matt…punching infants always makes me crack a smile.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 11/29/08 at 08:01 PM ET
Brent Musberger—anyone else get tired of his line “You are looking live at .....”
Peace Out!!
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 11/29/08 at 08:02 PM ET
I’ve been noticing the liveblog attendances and subsequent number of comments has been going down lately. I wonder why…?
Oh look, a dumb giveaway right in front of our own goal!
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 11/29/08 at 08:05 PM ET
Anderw, I think it’s the holidays more than anything.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 11/29/08 at 08:06 PM ET
NESN color guy: “best opportunity so far, I guess, was that Franzen shot.
Heavy research there boy. The echo of that post is still ringing in the rafters five minutes later.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 11/29/08 at 08:06 PM ET
Nice shift by Pavel. He must have read MacLeod’s post on the way to Boston.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 11/29/08 at 08:07 PM ET
Agree with Gabe Andrew. Last year at this time we had an average of about 60 comments per live blog.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 11/29/08 at 08:07 PM ET
I guess it goes without saying that the next goal is kind of, you know, a big deal.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 11/29/08 at 08:09 PM ET
They’ve started this period strong too…maybe once they pop one in, the goals will start coming.
Posted by Tyler from Arizona on 11/29/08 at 08:10 PM ET
Lets get this friggin show on the road. Bitches. Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!
Posted by Kate from Pa.-made in Detroit on 11/29/08 at 08:11 PM ET
You guys must be right about attendances.
Oh look, another bad giveaway and another goal!
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 11/29/08 at 08:13 PM ET
Ugh.
Conklin’s aura is less shiny now, eh?
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 11/29/08 at 08:13 PM ET
Hey, they let Conk take Ozzie’s first three…
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 11/29/08 at 08:13 PM ET
JFC. Looking forward to seeing who the culprit was on that one…Kronwall?
Weaknesses are becoming glaring boys and girls. And the Conk gets put right back where it came from.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 11/29/08 at 08:14 PM ET
A good time for Osgood to step it up.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 11/29/08 at 08:14 PM ET
This is so depressing…
@Jeff - I never thought that I would say this but - Go OU! (and Hook ‘Em)
Posted by Aimee from Austin on 11/29/08 at 08:14 PM ET
Murphy: “It’s time for defenseman to get involved offensively.”
Me: “It’s time for forwards to get involved offensively!”
Posted by DetroitHockey on 11/29/08 at 08:14 PM ET
How about: “it’s time for the defensmen to get involved defensively.”? It’s not like their attention to defensive detail has kept them out of the game offensively…
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 11/29/08 at 08:16 PM ET
This shit’s too painful. I’m a Red Wings fan! I hate losing. I’m going to go pout over how a team with so much potential can play like such garbage.
Posted by Pilgrim on 11/29/08 at 08:18 PM ET
Everything seems to stem from shooting. 12 shots on goal half way through the game, and they’re hitting posts or failing to lift the puck on the good chances.
How bout a practice devoted entirely to shooting?
Posted by Tyler from Arizona on 11/29/08 at 08:19 PM ET
Hey, look on the bright side—if the team plays like garbage this year, it’ll be easier to re-sign the Big Three!
Hey, wait, I smell a cunning plan from Tick-Tock Holland…
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 11/29/08 at 08:21 PM ET
Nice shot to Hudler’s back there - Momentary Referee Blindness, I assume?
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 11/29/08 at 08:22 PM ET
Is this embarassing anyone else? Every generic wrister from 40 feet troubles Conk/Ozzie, while Fernandez stops ‘em from anywhere and everywhere.
Posted by Nathan on 11/29/08 at 08:27 PM ET
For frak’s sake. What the hell is wrong with this team??
Sorry I’m late. PP is ugly again I see.
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 11/29/08 at 08:29 PM ET
What embarrasses me is the Wings’ old habit of making Tier C goalies look like first ballot Hall of Fame inductees. Fernandez is just Exhibit 794. (but yeah, the fact that we as Wings fans flinch with every shot over five feet is embarrassing.)
