Stress Train? What Stress Train?

Oh…like you didn’t know I’m kind of a reactionary. Yeah, I’m still stressed about the Zetterberg back issue. On the eve prior to a Cancun vacation, I kept my family awake discussing scenarios that would lessen the blow if Hank were to miss extended periods of time. Is the family happy with me? Oh no. Decidedly no. But are they more aware, better equipped to discuss certain items of importance to me while we’re all on vacation? Oh yes.
Hey. Happy about last night. Of course you are. It’s always fun to beat the Poultry, especially in their coop. I’m glad you’re happy. It warms me.
But…
...before you get too excited about one game in January, I’d advise you to read this column from the OC Register’s Mark Whicker. It’s actually fairly complimentary of the Wings. But it’s also a painful reminder of the Fluttering Puck From Hell and the frigging kick to the sack that Game 5 was last spring.
Todd Bertuzzi, now a Ducks winger, was among those who rode a silent Detroit bus that night.
“I don’t look back very much,” he said. “I just remember how well we (the Wings) played to get to that point. Not a lot of people thought we’d get past Calgary and San Jose in the first two rounds, so it was an accomplishment to get to that point.”
Babcock? Did he toss and turn all summer, haunted by the suspicion that the better team lost?
“The better team is the one that wins,” he said, with a thin smile. “Scott Niedermayer makes plays like that at the end of games. He made plays like that for me at the World Championships. That’s why he’s won everything.
“But I didn’t watch the first two games (of Ducks-Ottawa) and by then there wasn’t much left to watch. I think about Game 5 and the end of it, and the fact that if we just clear the puck out of our zone twice, we win that series. We were missing (defensemen Mathieu) Schneider and (Niklas) Kronwall and that was huge. But we had opportunities and it didn’t work out, so you go on.”
And on.
Read the rest here. Good stuff…mostly.
I’m off to Mexico. Don’t hate. I’ll be in the pool bar no later than 1500. Last time I was in a pool bar? Two years ago in Jamaica. You know what happens in a pool bar? Lots of people drink. You know what they don’t like to do? Get out. Do the math. Gross. Whatever. I’ll post when I can depending on connectivity South of the Border.
And, no, Gary. I won’t be watching the All Star Game. Ass.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
