Taking Inspiration From Wixom, MI, Uncle Mike Sends Osgood A Message Of Biblical Proportions

Hockey and religion rarely mix on the ice.  There are seldom, if ever, prayer circles at center ice, like you see on the field in the NFL.  Hockey players do not cross themselves before they attempt a shootout shot, as MLB athletes do before stepping into the batter’s box.

In fact, other than discussing Todd Bertuzzi’s rumoured dressing room sacrifices to Jobu (have you seen his stats lately?), there has been little talk of religion and the NHL in the hockey media or blogosphere.

Until today.

A2Y’s crack (smoking) team of interns have discovered Uncle Mike has sent a message of biblical proportions to Chris Osgood upon reading this Wixom, MI, story he saw at mlive.com:

ABCNews.com reports Trijicon, a Wixom-based supplier that has a $660 million multi-year contract with the Marine Corps and additional contracts with the U.S. Army, inscribes coded references to New Testament Bible verses on its ACOG high-powered rifle sights sold to the military.

The references—to books, chapters and verses about Jesus Christ—are appended to model numbers on the sights and include:

  * 2 Corinthians 4:6: For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,“made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

  * John 8:12: When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

I was intrigued to learn Uncle Mike was inspired by the story.  According to A2Y’s anonymous sources close to the Red Wings, Uncle Mike has etched the following on the brow inside of Osgood’s helmet:

Job 13:5

Far from a religious person, I turned to A2Y’s resident biblical expert, stonehands78, for interpretation.  According to our good friend, the biblical lesson Uncle Mike has chosen to deliver to Osgood is the following:

Job 13:5
If only you would be altogether silent!  For you, that would be wisdom.

I just spoke to Uncle Mike (I’m lying again) but he would not confirm nor deny our sources’ information, only saying:

“The Lord works in mysterious ways.  And fuch you, Jobu”
