Ted’s Changed His Tune

Wow. It’s an all skate today.  The old stand-bys are coming out of the woodwork to give us so much to work with.  I’m truly thankful.  Earlier today we had the Diggers editing (or just deleting) blog posts to hide their shortcomings, now we have our boy Ted jumping into the fray.

Hey…remember this?

The Red Wings seem vulnerable, the Predators won’t go away without a fight, and St. Louis and Chicago are both much-improved. Even Columbus, with its talented goaltender Pascal Leclaire, seems poised to make a move. Stay tuned … the balance in this division could shift immeasurably.

Sure you do.  That’s Teddy Montgomery of USA Today fame on 15 October.

Today?

Contenders:

1. Detroit Red Wings: By far the best team in the league to this point, the Red Wings have no significant weaknesses. They have a solid one-two goaltending punch, three of the best players in the league (Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk) and the secondary scoring is starting to come around. The team’s depth was recently demonstrated when Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby both missed more than a week and the Wings promptly reeled off six straight wins. Only injuries to key players and bad luck can derail this team.

That immeasurable shift?

In the Western Conference, Columbus, St. Louis and Chicago will have to be content with the knowledge that they’ve made great strides this season, but it probably won’t be enough to get them into the playoffs. Nashville will have trouble outdistancing the more talented teams in the conference, not to mention their own division.

Ted feels it’s a little more measurable now, I guess.

Just over 1/3 of the way through the season, the Wings are 10 points ahead of the second place Western team, with a game at hand.  That’s insane.  Forget the Wings owning the Central, they own the whole Western Conference (19-6-2 vs West teams).

At this pace, the Wings are looking at a 60-win season…and that’s basically including two more mini-slumps like the one they just had.

Well, at least he didn’t edit his previous articles about the immeasurable shift smile

If you can count up points, by definition it isn’t “immeasurable.”
