Well, there’s a first. After 22 years of blogging about hockey, the word “bitch” has finally been used in a post title. It was inevitable and I guess I’ve held off because I know that it’s wrong. I know it’s not something Paul would approve of. I know it. But dammit, sometimes you just have to push back you know?
Tomorrow morning we finish what we started last summer. We’ve narrowed the field to ten candidates and we’ll begin the countdown and the re-creation of the A2Y Rivalry Depth Chart. I’m going to give you the criteria now, the list of teams in alphabetical order, and then tomorrow we start anew with the tenth team on the depth chart analyzed and ripped to shreds, along with their fans.
The chart is done. I’m looking at it right now. I know who number 1 is and I know who number 6 is. I also know numbers 3, 9 and 4. You don’t. The specifics will be revealed on my time, Mr. Hand. My. Time.
Here’s how we broke it down:
Six categories, each with a 1-5 numeric point value.
Quality of team (QT). Depth of hatred the fans of that team have for us and the Wings and the level of obscene pleasure we’ll take in Detroit defeating their team in the postseason (HF, for “hate factor). Past playoff adventures (PPA). Quality of bloggers who may choose to say bad things about us (BQ). Opportunity that team has to make us sad during the regular season (RSSF, for “regular season sadness factor”).
And we’re adding one more category this year: the TQ factor. Troll quality. It could make or break a rival. I’m just sayin’.
Here are the teams: I welcome your predictions as to how you feel they’ll fall out.
Anaheim, Calgary, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Nashville, Pittsburgh, San Jose, St. Louis.
You’ll see them, starting tomorrow, counted down from 10. Let the anticipation carry you through the day.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
