Tomorrow we update the starboard side with links to the Chicago papers and the Hawk bloggers. And already, I’m seeing evidence that they may not be fond of you. I’m just sayin. But that’s tomorrow.
Tonite? A final word from the youngest Brady sister.
I watched the game last night in a Newport Beach sports bar with about 30 fellow staffers, and there was a mix of reactions when that final horn sounded on the season. Some gazed at the TVs in disbelief. Some stared at their feet. A couple of the girls even cried. All of us felt sick to our stomachs. “Well,” a friend of mine said somewhat crudely, “at least we didn’t go down like [expletive]s.”
You mean like…bitches?
Yeah you did. That’s exactly what your team did and it’s exactly the way they played the whole series. Like a bunch of bitches.
Now I’m done.
Bring on the Hawks.
8 to 12.

Thanks for the reminder. I put ‘Burn’ next on my DVD list after “Training Day”, which a bro at work told me was good. Also added Brooklyn Rules to the watch instantly list.
Let me know how you like ‘Training Day’, I may add it to my Q. After the finals, I move my subscription up a few levels.
The other 3 teams left in the playoffs are all good comeback teams. I’m with dougie…like to see the Canes in the final. Pittsburgh is no pushover this year… the only thing that did them in last year was Therrien, and the Wings. Beyond the Wings…not much D left…where o’ where are the other Norris candidates?
Deciding factor is still going to be injuries and officiating.

Anyone else tired of the faceoff fiasco’s?
I’m all for changing it so that the players can throw the linesman out of the faceoff circle.

It seemed to me that MAF let in several soft goals in the Finals last year too which by the end of those games turned out to be huge.
I agree on the defense, it seemed to me that especially Pittsburgh gave up numerous easy chances during their series, as did the Caps.
Whenever i did get to see the BlackHawks play so far they were just blowing past the other teams easily. Great speed and transition. The Wings can overcome that with puck control and good forechecking, but it only takes a 5 second breakdown out of 60 minutes for a team to put in a killer goal (see Darren Helm Game 7).
Hawks present a big challenge and a huge change from playing the Ducks. Would not surprise me that a main tactic of the Wings will be to physically hammer them as often as possible. That’s right, the Wings will take on the role of the physical checking team in this series.

It seemed to me their blowing past was due a lot to poor positioning by their opponents.
That + the fact that the ‘Nucks never really practiced clearing rebounds because Luongo is so good. Vancouver was done in by fierce forechecking. The Wings will have to deal with not having enough time to set up…leading to panic passes trying to clear the zone. One thing in the Wings favor is they won’t be at such a size disadvantage on the boards as they were against the BJ’s and Ducks. Quenneville + Bowman + Khabibulin + one sided officiating is a very high mountain to climb.

OT: NHL Fans Association. I joined this org several years ago. Not too much interaction with it. They currently have several questions up about the Balsillie Group and what effect that might have on the league.
Occasionally they develop letters or position papers to the league expressing the concerns of the fans as voted on by the members of this Association.
Sometimes they offer an opportunity for you and other fans to be heard by Gary.Ass.NHL,Inc.
I’m not pimping it or care if you join or not, just another piece of info out there for us fans.

Hey, everyone. There’s some guys here in Brazil who love hockey, despite non-broadcasting and Gary Buttman. They run a blog about the Wings (redwingsbrasil.blogspot.com) and an online magazine about NHL in general (http://www.theslot.com.br).
While The Slot is parcial, the Red Wings Brasil is kinda like here, with less profanity but still very hostile to other factions (sorry, franchises)
And that’s my point: A post published on Oct 25th, 2008, just after the Haks signed Quenneville. Read it if you want.
Joel…
There’s nothing worst for a team (and its pseudo-fans) that seeing its biggest rival climbing the Himalaia, while its own filthy reality only allows it to go down the Purgatory steps.
On this shiny times (1997-08) during which we won 4 Stanley Cups, 4 President’s Trophy and 8 Central Divisions, the Chicago Blackhawks only managed two very-brief appearances in the playoffs.
But the team we have most faced in history (766 and counting) have been using its extreme and constant awfulness to draft good values. Dollars are widely spent. And now they think they can take us from the top of hockey world.
And this same Chicago, unsatisfied with its now ex-coach Denis Savard, decides to bet on none other than Joel Quenneville to rob the Heineken from our mouths, Scarlett Johansson from our beds, our supremacy of Central Division and all.
Hey, wasn’t Joel who coached the Dive last season, when we swept those bitches on regular AND postseason? And the same Joel who coached the St Louis Blues, eliminated by the Red Wings in 1997, 1998 and 2002?
Can you see what those four postseasons kept for us in the end?
Thanks a lot Chicago, for giving the guy a job. Even if now we hear thousands yelling “Detroit Sucks” (very deep-thought and original, by the way). And even with your sordid little intentions, we, the fans of the 11 time Stanley Cup champions are rooting for your presence int the playoffs.
And take good care of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, they might some day come to us, like your ex-captain Christos Kostas Tselios, to get to know Stanley more closely.

Why don’t you give credit where credit is due? The Ducks are a good team—have been for three or four years now—and the Wings beat them. You should be proud of the fact that the Wings beat a good team and not a bunch of bitches.
Being bitches doesn’t mean they aren’t a great team. They are a great team. And they are also bitches.
The Ducks forecheck is better. As long as the Wings are relatively healthy for this time of year, I’m not overly concerned about the Hawks forecheck. Wings had a great hitting game against the BJs and Ducks. They need to keep themselves from getting fooled and thinking that now they can let up on the physical play.
And your equation is more like:
Bowman + Khabibulin + one-sided officiating = high mountain to climb
Quenneville + anything = bitch
Khabibulin against Detroit the last three years = bitch

Quenneville is a damn good coach.
He has always been limited by what he has to work with.
His only downside, he shares with Iron Mike and that is his
tendency to overplay his best players to the point of exhaustion and injury.
Looking at TOI, it appears Babble does the same, but he also keeps the shifts very short.

If your boys have that much trouble with a one-line team, what are they going to do in the Cup Finals against the Penguins?
The same thing they did last year!

Hiya bitches. I’m back aboard the Hasek this morning, after seeing that most everyone is picking the Wings except for some tool at the Sun-Times. Here are tomorrow’s zebras according to NHL.com: Eric Furlatt, Bill McCreary, Greg Devorski, Shane Heyer.
