Next entry: Maybe The Game-Time Decision…

Previous entry: Regehr Absent From Morning Skate

Thanks Toronto…Justhowwuzzi Gametime Decision?

Update: the Diggers are climbing onboard.  Helene St. James says Babcock seems optimistic that we’ll be looking at a Notdangerouslywuzzi situation.  See below.

Pow…this one hurts the diggers. First word on Bertuzzi comes out of Toronto of all places.

Todd Bertuzzi has practised the last few days and took a regular spin at today’s morning skate. But does that mean the big winger is about to crack the Detroit Red Wings line-up? Bertuzzi’s response was that, “Everyone will take the pre-game skate then go from there.”

But why would Detroit want him in right now anyway?

Bertuzzi suffered a concussion late in the regular-season and has yet to appear in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The other day he said he was feeling better and that every day was a stride in the right direction.

“Obviously I’ll want to be 100 per cent,” he said. “It’s just a matter of working as hard as I can.”

Pretty good analysis included in that story on why or why not to play Bertuzzi.

added 1458, Kal just passed a note on to XYT, verifying Bertuzzi is a game-time decision.

And here’s the real deal:  why say anything at this point? If he’s playing, he’s playing. If not, he doesn’t and it doesn’t do the Wings a damn bit of good to say so either way. Somebody’s lying and I like it.

added 1514  For what it’s worth, Ted Kulfan confirms it...after XYT, Toronto and Calgary all had it.  Nice.  Helene St. James, at least, has a bit more than Kulfan’s two line blog entry.

Based on what Mike Babcock said Tuesday morning, it would seem Todd Bertuzzi will play tonight in Game 3 between the Red Wings and Flames.

It’s still officially a game-time decision whether Bertuzzi will play, but Babcock said, “He told me he was great. I’ve said all along, as soon as he’s ready, he’s playing.”

The team has had great chemistry without Bert in the mix, and honestly I think the decision is coming down to whether or not plugging in Bert will mess with that or not. I expect him to play though, they didn’t trade for him to have him watch from the press box, or wherever he would watch the game at.

The Wings will pull that usual “oh look, he was healthy and we were just being cautious” line after he takes the pre-game skate and will be inserted into the lineup. It’s not like him playing will surprise Calgary at all, just say he’s in and get on with the show. Poor Huddles though, he’s played well, Sammy’s the one who needs to sit.

Oh the misinformation concerning injuries that we all crave during playoff hockey.  AMIWUZZI is a game-time decision now.  I read this in the FREEP this morning:

“Asked if he was wary of messing with a winning lineup, Babcock replied, “Anything that helps our team, we’re willing to do. If he’s ready to go, he’s in. He’s got to convince me.”

Babs said if he’s ready he’s in.

Now, suddenly, it is a gametime decision.  Hmmm could the Coach be a little anxious about messing with something clearly not broken??

What to make of this?  Maybe Babcock is needing time to read the tea-leaves and decide what to do, who to sit?

The Globe and Mail article mentioned that Bert doesn’t have the best playoff numbers.  But I do not believe that is really why you would want to play him anyway.  As I thought about (F)lame playing without Regehr I had visions of a “more up and down” game.  It is kinda obvious (F)lame do not have the horses (pun intended) to keep pace with the Wing.  Now they have a less solid D (as if it could be any more porous).  The game could be a little more up and down in Cowtown tonight.

OR—- do you think it gets a little nasty.

If nasty I would vote Bert.  If “up and down” keep the same lines.  Kinda glad I’m not betting on this call.

Who knew that Bertuzzi’s name would lend itself to so much humour?  (Other than the all-knowing IwoCPO, of course.)  wink

I said it when the dude was drafted, I don’t care how hard he hits I still think “PHANEUF” is what a women’s fart sounds like.  Whisper that name quickly and hold out the F at the end, and tell me you havn’t heard your wife make that sound.  Everytime he hits someone I can’t help but think he just phaneuf’d a little.

thats my potty humor for this series.

Has anyone discovered why he is wearing a visor all of a sudden? I know there was some speculation that maybe the bright lights were affecting him after the concussion, but the visor doesn’t appear to be tinted at all.

I hope Phaneuf gets his payback for his elbow on Dats tonight!

Millsz, that’s a great question. I haven’t seen an answer for it and I’m usually too busy trying to make up childish -wuzzi names that I forget to mention it.

I am confident that ‘game time decision’ is Babblease for ‘Only an idiot would mess with a winning lie-up’.  Not that Babblecock is that sharp, just that he has good advisors.  Had he listened to them last year and incorporated the Dump and Chase at opportune times. the Oils would never have seen the 2nd round.  Everyone was making Legace the scapegoat when all the problems started with losing the puck in the neutral zone trying to carry it over the Blue line.  The dump and chase in this first round (and a surprise, at that), is the reason the Flames are down 2.
