The 4th Period:  Trotz Is Your Boy

Greg Wyshynksi ranks the coaches today.  Mike Babcock? A respectable 8th, with this caveat.

Even Dave Lewis never lost back-to-back one vs. eight conference quarterfinals; will Babcock?

Not very nice Greg.  Not very nice at all.  That made me sad.  Who’s number 1?  Well, I gave it away with the headline, but read on.

Greg Wyshynski couldnt rank NHL coaches if his life depended on it.

The Wings have finished with the number one seed?  I must have missed the end of the season, then, because I thought there were still a dozen games to go and ample opportunity for the Wings to finish in 4th.

And if you are only ranking them based on the last two years, then any coach with less time than that with his current team should be excluded.  Either that, or include their entire careers in the comparison.

(And the idea of Trotz having a Nashville Predator tattoo on his butt…..um…er…I don’t know what to think about that, but I HOPE he is being figurative.)

Actually, I just did.

You must have pressured him pretty good with your link, because now he’s moved up to 7th.

O-Joe: Who’s Greg Wyshynski?

Sadly, I’ve been asking the same question since I graduated from high school…

...which, to the contrary of many of the e-mails I’ve received from Penguins fans after this column published, was actually quite some time ago.

You’re not that “Eklund” guy, are you?

Greg Wyshynski is a vital part of our hockey rankings.

Them’s fightin’ words, O-Joe!

That aside, I encourage you to check out my archive of columns on TFP. The coaches’ countdown piece is what it is, but it’s not the norm for me.

I second that motion: Greg Wyshynski is REALLY Eklund.

(The big reveal coming soon on National Enquirer/Sportsnet TV.)

Good thing.

Oh, and I read it, but I started at the bottom of the page and worked my way up from No. 1.  (Too much drama and anticipation for me otherwise when reading those reverse-order type pieces).

I stopped reading and closed the link (once I stopped laughing) when I got to Paul Maurice at #6.

Well, there’s your problem, Joe—my column is structured in a way where it can only be fully appreciated by starting at the top and reading down to No. 1. I mean, you wouldn’t start watching “Memento” in the last five minutes, would you? wink

Hell, like it, love it, loathe it…thanks for taking the time to read it.

Interesting article.  Have to disagree about Quenville…he is a goalie killer.  Fun article all the same.  I think the take on the coach for “the team that shall not be named” was right on.

Do you come with the DeGroat seal of authenticity?  Otherwise, I’m not reading anything more by you.  Heh…

O-Joe—your last comment, and the reaction it got from me when I read it here in the newsroom, shows that you and I have spent waaaaaaay too much time reading these boards. (e4)
