The Feeling I Get When I Look To The West?  Nausea.  Let’s Wrap This MF’er Up With A Live Blog

We’re going early and I have my reasons.

With a win tonite, the Wings head home with 6/10.  Still…the most depressing, disgusting, hazardous-to-your-pets road trip any of us can remember.

Noted.

Nobody cares what the rival bloggers are saying, or the MSM.  Nothing would bring more joy to more people than a disastrous Detroit season.

But the bandwagon is getting light and the time is coming.  You’re either in or you’re out.  There’s a difference between being a passionate fan who takes losses personally, and being a “Wing fan” who seems to literally enjoy the struggles of the past month to confirm your own agenda.  Read that again if you have to.  Blasting the Wings for poor play is one thing and it’s expected.  Reveling in it behind the facade of being a “real fan” is bullshit.

Nobody’s being banned from this site. That talk is tiresome.  But when the Wings turn this around, we’ll see who climbs back aboard.  When it’s no longer easy to pretend you know more than Mike Babcock, we’ll take a look back to October and see who stuck and who fled.

These Wings have given us a lot of amazing memories for much more than a decade.  They deserve the benefit of the doubt and a lot of frigging rope.

Those who stay will be rewarded.  I know this.  Do not give up on this team.

It’s a Live Blog bitches and if anyone’s got a feed? I’d appreciate it.  iwocpo at gmail dot com.

NIce win.  Best game of the season showing us elements of the team that was unbeatable in 2007-2008.

Malts relieves the tension.
Very nice game, but only if there is good news on May.
One more casualty, and Babs won’t be able to scratch the slackers.

(Now put another nickel in the jar for me for the “60 minute” comment, even if it was true.)

Someone show CBC the &fmt=18 extension on youtube that makes videos HQ.  Or the little button that says HQ.  Why show youtube clips low res and in mono on HDTV?

And Yzerman, The Captain, will talk about Team Canada with Ron coming right up.

Steve on the Wings’ effort tonight:

I think we were very pleased with the effort.  The guys played hard.  It was a physical game.  It was a high tempo game.  I think we were really pleased, particularly the chances against were down compared to the game in Edmonton.

I think it was a great team effort.  The guys really played well, really locked it down defensively, and tightened up their game;  they were very aggressive and tried to match Calgary in the physical department as well.

My heathen hands burn typing such holy words.

Yzerman has the hardest scouting job in the world.  Making a Team Canada roster that wins gold.  It will be scrutinized and debated to the chromosome in Canada.

He is watching games, live and on TV to make his decisions.

“Watching games, watching players.”

Not once does he mention Corsi numbers, or any other sabermetric tool.  Someone tell TheLinkGoesHere that real GMs watch hockey games to evaluate players.  Like the rest of us.

I missed the game and the LB. I take it we got the W but lost May.

Well, I was gonna skip out on the rest of the season after the debacle in Vancouver and Edmonton. But after tonite’s win, I decided to hop back on this wagon.

And a damn good game it was. They actually looked like they knew what they were doing in the D zone, and not like a bunch of 8yr olds playing soccer. The 4rd and 4th lines were impressive, with several strong shifts. Yet it disturbs me that Maltby trails only Homer in goals, and is tied with Little John. And the PP again was limp.

Still, I’ll take it. Another one of those games to build on. Boston is struggling too. Lets slip a little something in their drink and ravage them Tuesday nite.

Solid game and the type the club needs to play the rest of the year to win games. It may not be pretty or flashy, but it gets the damn job done. If the team can withstand the loss of Flip and play well until his return, I like their chances of putting something together. This span of games without him are going to build a lot of character, chemistry and morale.

Already set my clocks correct, that was the result of a conversation with my little brother, and I realized right after I posted that it was wrong.  Good thing too, I have an early appointment on Sunday.

Shit am I glad I stopped drinking early, sobered up, drove home, and watched the game tonight before bed.  What a performance.  First minute was terrifying and early third was scary, but they put it all together.  Even Lebda and Meech looked like capable hockey players tonight. We really handled the forecheck well tonight and plenty of times it looked like the Wings were more comfortable on the Calgary ice than the Flames were.  We connected on passes that professionals make.

Was this the first time that Jay Bouwmeester has played against Datsyuk in person?  Datsyuk absolutely bamboozled him tonight.  Sutter seems to have figured it out before the final period, as I don’t remember a shift where Mr. Meester was out against Dr. Dangle again.

I still think Abdelkader needs time in Grand Rapids, but I liked the way he hit tonight.  He sure as shit got Phaneuf riled up.

Hope Brad May is ok.  Williams owes him two steaks.  One to hold over his eye and the other to eat.  Still have no idea the extent of the injury.

Darren Helm, need I say more?  Holy shit, he’s fun to watch.

Do yourselves a favor, go back and read page 5 of this post.  Reliving that drop and then sudden jubilation was a great feeling when I was getting caught up after having watched the game.

Holy god they got the W.  Back home to face the Bears and the Chockis.

Also, Gramps, your prognostications, you might want to dial them back a bit.  You predicted an easy win in Edmonton and a game that would require heavy drinking in Calgary.  Ron Holmstrom is not amused.

Just finished reading through, and it seems like maybe I should miss games and live blogs more often.  Seems like from the comments that we played our best complete game of the season, and glad to *#$%@& hear it.  I had a feeling that we would have a positive result out of this game, whether it be a win, or just at least some good solid play.

Regarding the original post about real fans, I’m not sure who is being referred to but speaking for myself, I’ve stated numerous times that Hercules couldn’t pull me away from this team no matter the results of any game, games, playoffs, or season.  I’m here to stay, always have been and always will be.  I may not be old enough to truly have lived through the awful years (29, so I remember it being bad in the 80s but obviously I was young) but I definitely remember.  Been a fan my entire life, not stopping now.  Also I know I’ve only been around here since the playoffs last season, but I knew right away when I found this place that I was at home.

On a final note, my wife had a halloween party tonight at our house with her whole grad school class, and jesus have people forgotten how to party?  My friend’s band was in town so I was planning on stepping out to go catch their set and returning to the party.  The party was supposed to start at 7, it was just barely getting started at 10 when I left, and when I came back at 12:30 the last few people were leaving.  Like, come on.  My wife put in tons of time and effort over the last couple of days (with me helping her), to get our house ready for this “huge” party that everyone wanted us to have, not to mention aside from the already 90 hour work weeks she’s dealing with in grad school, and people show up for like 2 hours and bail. Sorry to rant about something that has nothing to do with anything, just frustrated and venting.  If I ever have a chance to hang out with any of you, I hope that drinking copious amounts until the wee hours is in order.

Go Wings.

“We skated well and maybe for the first time all year we were a five-man unit and made some nice plays,” said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock. “I liked the goals we scored and the way we went about our business tonight. It was impressive.”

Glimmer of light at the end o the tunnel.
