I’ll be editing this as we move along.
Gordie Howe, Lifetime Achievement Award? Could it have gone to anyone else?
Lidstrom, Norris? Check. Legendary. 2nd Best Ever? Maybe. Maybe Better.
Datsyuk, Selke? Check. “Long speech, but English is little.”
Zetterberg, Selke? Denied, but with a big old consolation trophy.
Datsyuk, Byng? Check. There was no doubt.
Chelios, Masterson? Denied, but with a Cup, and still with a job…allegedly.
Uncle Mike Babcock, Adams? Denied, but there is no doubt, none, who the best coach in the NHL is.
It’s a dynastic Live Blog.

Another short speech coming up…
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 06/12/08 at 06:39 PM ET
Wow Pavel #2 Award… Same speech?

Dats again!!!
Posted by Jennemy of the Skate from putting the b*tches in the box on 06/12/08 at 06:39 PM ET
“now i have nothing” funniest line tonight.
Posted by RWBill from the Land of 12 in 12. on 06/12/08 at 06:40 PM ET
Pavel - Funnier than MacLean and sounds like Balki from Perfect Strangers. That’s ideal.
Posted by HockeyJoe from NY on 06/12/08 at 06:40 PM ET
That’s awesome. “I didn’t think I’d win before, so my english even shorter now.”
Posted by Jennemy of the Skate from putting the b*tches in the box on 06/12/08 at 06:40 PM ET
Pavel’s hilarious. Here’s hoping they let him host Saturday Night Live with the Cup.
Posted by Modnar from Cincinnati, OH on 06/12/08 at 06:42 PM ET
Bab’s should get the Adams
3 consecutive 50+ seasons, two Pres. trophies, and a Cup—
But I think the idiots will give it to Boudreau
Praying I’m wrong.

“In Babcock We Trust”
“The best coach is the one whose team wins the Stanley Cup” - Mike Babcock 4 weeks ago.
Posted by RWBill from the Land of 12 in 12. on 06/12/08 at 06:43 PM ET
You know what they say, brevity is the soul of wit.
Maybe by the time his new contract is up he’ll have an acceptance speech that’s 15 seconds long.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 06/12/08 at 06:43 PM ET
Probably, Jeff - although I didn’t expect ‘em to get the Selke right, so who knows…
Posted by TeamDub from The gratch. on 06/12/08 at 06:43 PM ET
A double dose of #13 will cure what ails you!
Posted by Kate from Pa.-made in Detroit on 06/12/08 at 06:45 PM ET
Jeff, call it blasphemy, but I can’t see how a vote for Boudreau would be wrong. Yes, Babs deserves it, especially almost as a career-to-this-point recognition - but Boudreau did a hell of a job getting that Caps teams head out of its ass.
Posted by HockeyJoe from NY on 06/12/08 at 06:45 PM ET
Hola Dub—how are the MudHens doing?
I never would have thought they would give the Selke to Dats either—despite league leader in +/-, and takeaways by a mile.
I’m actually amazed they did get it right!!!
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 06/12/08 at 06:45 PM ET
don’t get me wrong HockeyJoe, all of the finalists are worthy. Boudreau did a helluva job.
But c’mon man—look at the numbers!!!
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 06/12/08 at 06:47 PM ET
OMG…Hermaphrodite?
Posted by Scott H from Kalamazoo on 06/12/08 at 06:47 PM ET
What was going on with Ovechkin’s tie there? I’m assuming that ‘I don’t know how to dress myself.’ look was done on purpose? Doesn’t he have his own fashion line or something?
Posted by Modnar from Cincinnati, OH on 06/12/08 at 06:48 PM ET
Jeff -
39-28, tied for lead in the West.
Haven’t gotten down to a game yet, but will as soon as school is done.
Fifth Third field is really, really nice.
Go Babbles!
Posted by TeamDub from The gratch. on 06/12/08 at 06:48 PM ET
Disappointed? yes
Surprised? no
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 06/12/08 at 06:49 PM ET
Boudreau - nice. I think he thought Babs was winning it too.
Posted by dare on 06/12/08 at 06:49 PM ET
Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk!!!! Wise guy eh?
Posted by Scott H from Kalamazoo on 06/12/08 at 06:49 PM ET
Boudreau—hmm, as I suspected.
Too bad for Babs, but he has his name on the trophy that matters most!!
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 06/12/08 at 06:49 PM ET
Jeff - believe me I get the numbers for Babcock - I’m not putting that aside at all. I guess I have to give a metric farkton of credit to Boudreau for pulling that team out of dead last place to winning their division (crappy as it was) and getting to the playoffs before Paul Devorski and his boys helped job them against Philly.
Posted by HockeyJoe from NY on 06/12/08 at 06:50 PM ET
What sucks most is that we got robbed of the possibility of a Babcock acceptance speech. Is there any question that would have been hilarious?
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 06/12/08 at 06:51 PM ET
Can we get an Elisha Cuthbert or a Kristin Bell to present an award??
Posted by cephalopod from Chicago...nope, still not over it. on 06/12/08 at 06:51 PM ET
I wonder what they had to pay to use the HNIC theme there.
Posted by Modnar from Cincinnati, OH on 06/12/08 at 06:52 PM ET
Babs has plenty of good years ahead of him. This year was Boudreau’s big shot, and it’s not like he didn’t deserve it.
Or maybe the NHL refs are in charge of counting the ballots, too. I smell conspiracy. Hanging chad, anyone?
Posted by Modnar from Cincinnati, OH on 06/12/08 at 06:54 PM ET
That communications firm Ovechkin mentioned? Verizon? Yeah. My wireless crashed. Thanks Gary. Ass.
You guys are on your own until it’s back up.
Nick for six. of course.

Dub, you not outta school yet? They got you tied there with a ball and chain?
Gotta be done soon, I hope!! My boy has been out of O.U. for almost a month—hell he already did his two weeks of Natl. Guard duty?
What kind of freaky schedule they have you on?
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 06/12/08 at 06:55 PM ET
Can we get an Elisha Cuthbert or a Kristin Bell to present an award??

Right now Kristin Bell is busy. She’s got her hands all over my trophy.

It’s already back on the CBC web link. still commercial on VS.

You mean she’s got her hands all over Chris Osgood’s “trophy”.
Posted by Modnar from Cincinnati, OH on 06/12/08 at 06:58 PM ET
Kane or Toews? Toews or Kane? Whoever wins, the Hawks have their mini-version of the EuroTwins.

Kane has trouble keeping his teammates away from his younger sisters.
He’s 19.

Dub I always suspected you were a little off-kilter downing those PBR’s, but taking THREE classes in Inter-Session—
