I’ll be editing this as we move along.
Gordie Howe, Lifetime Achievement Award? Could it have gone to anyone else?
Lidstrom, Norris? Check. Legendary. 2nd Best Ever? Maybe. Maybe Better.
Datsyuk, Selke? Check. “Long speech, but English is little.”
Zetterberg, Selke? Denied, but with a big old consolation trophy.
Datsyuk, Byng? Check. There was no doubt.
Chelios, Masterson? Denied, but with a Cup, and still with a job…allegedly.
Uncle Mike Babcock, Adams? Denied, but there is no doubt, none, who the best coach in the NHL is.
It’s a dynastic Live Blog.

LB’ing the Masters, LMAO? Isn’t the US Open this weekend?

Question, Has anyone watched the NBA Finals? I haven’t watched one game. Just turned on and some *#$%@& is turning the national anthem into a 3 minute ballad.
The NBA is worse than the NHL because the referees have always determined the outcome of the games. This year in games 5 and 6 were the first time I saw the NHL refs so deliberately trying to let one team back in the game.

So Team Dub is married to one of the girls from SouthPark?

I’m strangely unfulfilled from that awards show. Wings dominated, but what else is new?
Guess I’m outta here. Later all.
Beetis.

Can’t watch any awards show - would rather gouge out my eyes with knitting needles - but reading the comments is hilarious.
It’s like hearing the comments of Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo without actually seeing the cheesy movies. ![]()
I can’t believe they misspelled Lidstrom. You would think they would know it by now.

I’m too young to have been around, but I couldn’t help but cry when I saw Gordie Howe and the highlight reel they put together for him. Even the awkwardness of Gary Bettman couldn’t spoil the magic of seeing #9 honoured.
Gordie’s speech was humble and heartfelt, and when he spoke to the young hockey players and mentioned that in only a few years one of them would get their shot, I started crying again.
Damn Hockey… makes me all emotional.

God where was I to pick up the pieces when Natasha was 14 and running away from home?
“Natasha was raised in a trailer park in Alberta, Canada. Her father was a biker/contractor. Her mother was a housewife. She left her home at age 14 to go to Paris to become a model.”
How do you get to be a “biker/contractor” WTF?

Awesome liveblog people! I was away at practice (martial arts, 7 years now), but the comments were awesome.
Favs: Chief with Colorado practice = bitchslapfest, Blake = Butters, TDub…everything (btw, I thought you were like 19, you look like a 30yrold in that pic)...
awesomeness…
Gary looks like he’s doing a bad impression of Woody Allen every time he talks. Ass.Canoe.
I can’t wait to read all the “Wings dominate at awards” articles, except for all those that will ignore the opportunity and focus on Ovie instead. Good kid, and I think he hates Crosby too.
Hope to catch a replay…

Osrt.-
Hate to say this, I really do… but #38 is coming up on the 26th.
Maturity comes slowly for some of us…
Posted by TeamDub from The gratch. on 06/12/08 at 09:14 PM ET
Lindstrom?? Lindstrom??
The sufficiently foul language I wish to type hasn’t been created yet for the good of man. I’m about to get a seriously foul Tourettes twitch towards Bettman.
&$&@* #%$# GARY %^#& @#~!! Ass.

Well happy Birthday man! (just in case I don’t get a chance later)
This place brings out the immature in all of us and we’re better for it. Chief is, what, 60 going on 21.
Posted by Osrt on 06/12/08 at 09:54 PM ET
Well, thanks.
I tend to try to ignore them anymore.

Damn, I this thing was rowdier than some of the games.
Very happy to see Pav win both awards.
And just how the screw to you eff up Lids name? Did they buy that thing at K-Mart??? Someone should be shot.
I’m gonna have to catch replay of some of this, especially the Pav speackes. I’m sure the tireless efforts of Mr. Malik will have media links up before long. Does the man ever sleep?

Thanks for a great LB, guys! Hilarious read as always.
Hope you had a great time hobnobbing with Alicia Keyes, TD. You know, I was busy too missing out on the award show. I was on a date with uhm, a real tenner, yeah that’s right bitches! I’d send you a photo but she had already left when I had the chance to snap one. Anyway, here’s a picture of me after the date.
Well, I couldn’t partake, so here is what I found off of youtube:
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7 (Norris award + Lindstrom shirt), Part 8.

Oh hell yeah, we gotta live blog the US Masters, and I HATE golf…
http://www.sportsline.com/golf/story/10859760
Good to see Datsyuk get some love for his tough-as-nails defensive play as well as his soft cuddly side. Although after the playoffs, I don’t think anybody’s going to be calling him soft anymore. Except Cherry…man, how I hate that guy. And getting the nomination, but not the trophy, keeps Zetterberg motivated and continuing to kill five-on-threes.
I think there were two forgone conclusions here, one of them fortunate, one not so: Nick would get the Norris, and Boudreau the Adams.
Oh, and a third: Gary would inevitably get his greasy fingerprints staining some part of the show. “Lindstrom?” WTF? Incidentally, who was the kid wearing the jersey and what was he doing up on stage?
It’s like hearing the comments of Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo without actually seeing the cheesy movies.
“He learned too late that man is a feeling creature…and because of it, the greatest in the universe. He learned too late…”
Ah, you do it, I’m bitter.
Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Dub!

Lilja, I don’t know whether to thank you or kill you for those links.
I just watched the first 10 minutes and I have never seen Ron so uncomfortable and annoying before. Actually, he looks a little like Pee-wee Hermann in that….nasty…
Posted by Osrt on 06/13/08 at 06:26 AM ET
And WTF is up with talking with the kids? You make them stand there like it’s an effin mosh pitt wearing the wrong names on oversized jersies…good deal…
Posted by Osrt on 06/13/08 at 06:34 AM ET
Note to League: Little Gay is not allowed to call Gordie Howe by his first name. My skin itched everytime he said it, especially in that slight chastisement for coming up too early.
F!#$#@ you, you little tool. Address your superiors appropriately!

Final word: All acceptance speeches should be written by Russians. I’m happy that Pav got a chance to be funny and the world to know him a bit better.

yeah, a lot of times when someone doesn’t speak “long” English
their personality doesn’t come through. his did.
I thought it was funny that the kid who gave him the Byng was almost as tall as he is.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 06/13/08 at 03:11 PM ET
since he’s the first winner, they should name the lifetime achievement award “The Gordie”.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 06/13/08 at 03:19 PM ET
The Howe (Memorial) Trophy for Lifetime Achievement.
Good idea Paul
