The Red Wings’ Suggestion Box Is Open To Your Ideas

The current season has left Red Wings fans asking questions and pondering solutions.  So let us throw some around.

All day today, and throughout the season, the 19 have been discussing the team’s problems and possible remedies.

I just spoke to Ken Holland (a lie), and he has asked me to open up the suggestion box to the ideas of the 19.

I’ve made no secret of my undying optimism that the Wings will make the playoffs.  And I am a staunch supporter of Uncle Mike, despite some decisions he makes that I don’t agree with.  I think there is no better coach in the NHL today than Uncle Mike, and it is no small feat that he has kept us within striking distance of the playoffs.

I am not the smartest, funniest, nor the most eloquent of the 19.  I just update the posts so that they don’t become 50-page juvenile encyclopedias.  That’s why I want you to read this recent submission posted in the BBBB Live Blog:

...I’m not thrilled with Babs being so involved with the Olympics and I wonder if that isn’t more of a distraction than he would admit.

But for the most part, this season looks like a lot of mental fatigue. From the beginning, you’ve got vets still coping with a harsh cup loss. Friends and teammates were casualties of the cap. It was taking time for things to click with all the new players. Early on, players were dropping like flies, and that will hurt morale real quick. Then you’ve got players trying to play above their level to cover for all the missing bodies. Next its becoming more and more obvious that it’s going to be a struggle to get in the playoffs. Even with players coming back, now its time for the team to gel all over again, which just adds to the struggles.

It’s been one thing after another. Despite the oodles of leadership, the encouragement, the “energy” of rookies in or guys coming back, and the fact that “they’re professionals and are expected to deal with it,” all those things build up real quick…

...I’m not ready to even discuss replacing Uncle Mike. Despite all the hardships of the season, I find it remarkable that we’re even in the position we’re at. There’s more credit to be spread for the relative success of this team than there is blame for its struggles.

Great stuff, Nate, you’ve expressed how I feel even better than I could have ever imagined.

Not everyone of the 19 agree with Nate or me.  That’s okay, if we wanted homogeneous perspectives we’d be the Pen(i)sblog where alternate hockey opinions are banned immediately.  The thing I love about the 19, and why I am proud to be a member, is despite being the funniest and most juvenile commentators on the Gore, we are also the most intelligent, passionate, and well-spoken hockey fans anywhere.  And I love all you bitches for it.

Let it out, 19.  Set out your thoughts and ideas on the table for everyone to discuss.  Don’t just bitch about problems, offer ideas for solutions.  Tick Tock is listening.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
