The Return of Grampa Pinhead

You know by now that the idea of writing about the NHL at large scares me. So I leave that to Grampa Pinhead. Opinionated, often cranky and certainly willing to debate should you choose to take that step, I’ll bring you his viewpoints whenever he sees fit to provide them to me.

Buffalo (14-1-1) at Carolina (9-6-3)
Montreal (8-4-3) at Ottawa (6-9-1)
San Jose (13-5-0) at Los Angeles (5-10-4)
and I get
Philadelphia (3-11-2) at Pittsburgh (7-6-2)
In spite of all their efforts and improvements, VS (OLN) continues to suck.
No wonder I am having a little problem getting into hockey this year.
I watch every single game available on my cable system, and now 5 weeks into the schedule and it seems I am watching the same 2 games over and
over…
A..Total mismatch (blowout)
or
B.. Two periods of power plays followed by a period of playing for a tie.

I am not at all amused at the shootouts.., they need to be discontinued.
Handing out points for a tie is rediculous, and just encourages very boring hockey. Where do you think Major League Baseball would be sitting if ties were implemented, and awarded with points to encourage them. Extra innings are the only Home Run contest that keeps me watching.
5 minute, 4 on 4 overtime is not what it could be if they are still trying for a tie. Over 2/3 of a teams roster never sees the ice in overtime, game after game..
What does that say about Teamwork and Coaching?
The standings should be decided by wins only, and the overtime needs to be extended so that more of the players have to be used. Maybe 15 or 20 minutes of sudden death, and if it is still tied, then the teams get screwed...The same way all the fans are getting screwed by the current (absurd) game.
There is enough talent in the league to make up maybe 11-12 teams, but you don’t want to get me started on that.......
