The Small Pacific Island of Guam Is Going Frigging Wing Crazy

Guam?  It’s the JV Subic Bay.  And that’s all I’m gonna say about that.

Just returned.  Actually, I’ll be NoCal for the next 8 days.  Got here just as the Wing/Buffalo game was ending.  Went straight to MLive, because Malik is a workhorse and probably would have blogged even if he’d been in Guam.  Stopped in at the Wing forum, saw this post and had to laugh.  It’s perfect, at least the first few sentences are.

Conklin looked/had to be real good (at times).

Thought the Dats/Homer/Leino line worked real nicely together, a real measure of how good Leino could look if surrounded by NHL caliber guys. Franzen is a horse.

Forget “the Mule”, may as well call him a wrecking ball. He hits, shoots, scores, skates well (seemed a lot faster today than last year), and plays D. What more could you ask for? Size? oh yeah, he’s got that too.

Samuelsson is still a piece of s#!t.

Ever heard of David Alan Coe’s The Perfect Country Western Song?  Well, that’s the perfect Red Wing fan message board post.

Hitting the mean streets of Sacramento tonite.  Back to regular juvenilicity tomorrow.

Sorry, didn’t fact check and confused Huds with Filppula.

Helm will be on the squad full-time after trade deadline, for sure, maybe even Leino.

It’s Hockey Eve and no new earth shattering posts from Santa Chief?

I need a fix…something, anything….

I hope you’re ok Chief. I hope Gary’s minions didn’t conspire to hold you in some ‘The Terminal’-esque lockup in North America’s hockey capital of Guam.

My glorious vacation away from the Douche Canoe is hours away from closure, and I feel naked, alone, and desperate for leadership from my guidance counselor. (Much like Baby Gary the day Tick-Tock announced the Hossa deal!)

The Summer of Stanley Part 2, “The Bitch is Back” is upon us. A cold hard summer of booze, brawls, and Bettman. Bring a bucket for the beer and an umbrella for blood.

All-aboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can’t believe you guys are surprised, it was pretty obvious Helm was going to GR barring a trade of a player like Samuelsson or Kopecky or and injury to Draper or Maltby.

These are good problems to have. As someone else said, there are a number of clubs looking for warm bodies to play before tomorrow, let alone how many clubs would love to have Quincey/Meech in their 5-7 d-men or put Leino, Samuelsson, Kopecky, and Helm on their third (or even second) lines.

ScottH from the Zoo…here’s your hockey fix:

Three of the first 4 games are inter-conference,
as they hit the road for games against
Ottawa (Sat., Oct 11)
Carolina (Mon., Oct 13)
before returning for real hockey in the W/Conf.

I read somewhere, the last couple of days…..
The last 3 Stanley Cup finalists had kick-ass records for
October.

The Wings chances for b2b#12 may be apparent by the
time the election is decided. They will be 12 games in..
7 against the West,
5 against the East,
and yet to play:

Other W/Conf favorites:
Dallas (Dec 12)
Calgary. (Nov 22)

Divisional opponents:
Nashville (Dec 26)
Columbus (Nov 28)

Other Oct 9 openers:
10:30 PM..CAL/VAN..(CBC)
10:00 PM ..BOS/COL..(Versus)
10:30 PM..ANA/SJS..(good luck)

Both Babs and Kenny have said their measuring stick is Thanksgiving Day or 20 games (whichever comes first). Of course, if the Wings are 10-1-1 on election day (or, shudder, 5-5-2) then you may be right, HTT. I’ll go out on a limb and say they’ll be 8-3-1 after 12 (because Pavel, Marian and Homer will need time to gel) and then 14-4-2 after 20.

But even if they are (shudder) 10-7-3 after 20, I say they top the Western Conference at the end of the season. As for the playoffs, who the hell knows. That’s a total crap shoot.

I left myself an out by pointing out that by election time they haven’t yet played Dallas or Calgary….and I think Nashville and Columbus will be giving them a hard time this season…What is with all the divisional games….. and we don’t see them until Nov.28?

You are right about the playoff crapshoot…Injuries, Luck, and Officiating all have to be in your favor.

Damn it’s good to be able to read all the opinios of the A2Y19 again. This off season felt like an eternity waiting for Red Wings news.

Anyone heard anything on what’s happening with Quincey?I’m curious to know which team we’re gonna hustle by giving them a big stiff for another Hakan Andrsson(sp?) steal. Definitely glad Meech is gonna stay, he’s miles ahead of Quincey.

Nashville, probably…but Columbus? On the list of teams that concern me, Columbus ranks somewhere between a Vancouver farm team and the 74-75 Capitals.

That really doesn’t matter, I still think they will be trouble for the Wings..
IE..last year:
Atlanta, Chicago, and St. Louis.

No, I agree with that…I wouldn’t be surprised if we go winless this season against the Kings or Coyotes - it the way some seasons go - but I just can’t see Columbus challenging the Wings the way Chicago did last season.  If we end up any worse than 4-2 against them this season, I’ll be amazed. (My prediction would be 5-1)

OK, so we can’t get tickets for the outdoor game at Wrigley this year.
I think all 19 of us should watch the game from Ozzie’s “Man Shack”:

w2j2, while that cave is just plain friggen awesome…as a collector of game sticks, it braeks my heart to see that.  Although I see he used a Bertuzzi and a Lebda in his table….no great loss there I suppose.

no hate, Alex from San Francisco, just razzing. I have a bunch of friends who hang at The Killowat. Their beer selection kills Kezar Pub, and yeah, the attitude at Kezar does become tiresome sometimes.

No worry.  We know what we’re doing.
