While the hockey world (at least the part that doesn’t include Toronto) falls all over itself propping up Mats Sundin as the picture of integrity, Greg Eno reminds us of a former Wing who had no problem getting the hell out of that town as quickly as possible.

They booed him, unmercifully, every time he touched the puck. They made signs deriding him. Games at Maple Leaf Gardens became nasty. The fans were bidding him good riddance.

And he was one of theirs.

Larry Murphy, at the trade deadline in 1997, was held up as the punching bag for Toronto Maple Leafs fans frustrated with the team’s Stanley Cup drought—which continues today and is now 41 years old.

Eno also brings up the Bourque comparison, which is already being commented on by A2Y readers in this post as well.
