There’s Really Only One Solution

I was gonna hold off on this. In fact, I wasn’t even going to put the Columbus fans through it because they’re probably tired of it and I like their bloggers. But then I read something from the Post Dispatch’s Aaron Portzline and now I’m all fired up. It’s the standard routine, taken right out of the Woody Paige book of babble. Your team suck? That’s ok. There’s always….this.
What a city, Detroit. I can see the Detroit River from my hotel room. There’s concrete, chain link and police tape down there, too. What a view.
I like one of our views Aaron…the same view we’ve had the last several years: atop the Central. Looking down, way down, at you. And, no, I’m not done.
Sadness? I’ve got a solution.
City decay? Same solution.
Poor economy? Same solution.
Mayor texting hookers? Yep, same solution.
4 game losing streak? You guessed it…same solution.
A BJ. That’s right BJs for all. Hockeytown will rejoice tonite because BJs are on tap at The Joe.
Ok. I’m done with that. I wish I could say there’s nothing more to read in Portzline’s blog, but—dammit—there’s actually an item of interest.
The buzz in Detroit is that Fedorov is on his way to the Red Wings at the trade deadline. Scott Howson spent half of the morning skate in conversation with Wings’ GM Ken Holland and assistant GM Jim Nill. At one point, they’ll all three let out a hearty laugh. Maybe Howson asked for Pavel Datsyuk.
Yeah maybe. Or maybe Howson took a jab at Detroit and Holland asked if Columbus had a shot at the postseason.

You sound pretty confident about the game tonight. Luckily, they still play the game and don’t award points based on the standings. Besides, it’s not like Detroit has owned Columbus so far this season.

That’s nothing compared to the view out of the window of one of my previous workplaces - an open air drug market, three blocks away!
He’s lucky there isn’t an NHL team in Baltimore - 60,00 drug users in a population of 600,000 people, heroin abuse in vogue (cocaine never really took hold there - the druggies are traditionalists), major celebration if the pace for murders drops below 300 a year, and the VD capital of the country!
And none of it would have ANYTHING to do with the (hypothetical) HOCKEY TEAM!
What is it about journalists that they wander off topic like a stray purebred poodle?
(And maybe the more important question - is Dick Tarnstrom going to be in the lineup?)

(That should be 60,000 - and yes, the math does work out to about 10%. Quirky city with a lot of historyand friendly people, but god it made me sad to see it rot like that.)

If you are gonna rip on a CBJ reporter at least get the name of the fish-wrap correct. It Dispatch. Not Post-Dispatch. One more time. D_I_S_P_A_T_C_H. OK? And by the way. Nice game by the wings. We scored 5? You understand this is only the 4th time this year we have put at least 5 on the board in 1 game. Nice.

The entire Wings roster appears to be suffering from a bad case of “Langeritis” (i.e., they’re lazy and they suck). Since the team already got a Langectomy at the end of last season, the only cure is to start working their asses off. Win every battle…Win every shift…Win every period…

Taking Aaron’s words to heart a bit much, eh chief?
Take a deep breath and relax!!
Anyway, I was just wondering… How did that rejoicing go? Must’ve been some party, considering the amount of fans that left the building by the start of the third period!!
Okay, enough of that. In all seriousness, depsite the Jackets holding my heart above all others in the NHL… I do like Detroit. (When we aren’t playing them at least!)
Osgood seems to be struggling quite a bit, which is unfortunate, as he is normally fabulous.
And as far as your view from the top of the Central standings… That’s all good and well, because everyone knows Detroit is a damn good team… But in case you missed it… Columbus tends to be quite a pain the Detroit’s ass. Amazing when the Wings find themselves having to work their asses off for a victory against a team that people like to view as pushovers, eh?

sergei wearing the winged wheel again…not a bad idea since he’s as versatile as any wing in the last 20 years. i’d still like a sniper to offset all the passing forwards on the wings. we need to say a prayer that kronnie can play through the playoffs this year and that dom feels 30 again.
