Aloha. Here’s the wager with the PensBlog girls. If the Genitalia-less flightless birds win tonite, I’ll be writing the game recap for the geniuses who frequent the C-blog. Vice versa. When the Wings win? You’ll be reading the prose of Charlie and his sorority sisters here tomorrow.
It’s a live blog, bitches. Your even-keeled and objective commentary is welcome.

Can’t we keep the rats with inoperable wings out of the Hasek?

the officiating turned the tide in this game. I don’t know what colour the Bett-phone is, but I bet the ring is smug and self-righteous. thanks li’l gary. ass.
at least pensblog will have complete sentences tomorrow. vomit.

I hate being a “find a silver lining” type. It goes against my Irish heritage, but this can finally shake up the Wings into realizing they MUST keep the skate on the neck of a downed opponent.
Posted by wingsfanindenver on 11/11/08 at 09:50 PM ET
See you guys next time. Chief, can you put out the bird traps? We’re getting all kinds of pests in the Hasek car.

this is why i don’t have center ice, can’t take this crap. i’m out, later dudes and dudettes

Keep the skate on the neck? Are you kidding me? They need to put BOTH skates THROUGH the neck, and the fill the corpse with bullet holes.

Well, it’s the talking heads on On The Fly: Final, which means I must turn off my TV and go to bed. I’ll leave you with this burning question:
Just what has happened to our third periods that we knew and loved from last season?
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 11/11/08 at 09:52 PM ET
i hope those guys go into the locker room and feel like shit just like we do.
Posted by rwingscup19 from Dallas on 11/11/08 at 09:53 PM ET
Not the outcome we wanted. Gotta tip your hat to Pitt, they never gave up. They were the better team in the last 10 minutes. Just one game though and we still are the stanley cup champs because we were the best team during the most important 16 games!

Word.

Yeah, what the *#$%@&?
Well, as another Irishman averse to silver linings, I’ll just point out that we scored six times. Most nights, that’ll do. And, it’s November. Early November. And, Dan Cleary was out. We woulda messed ‘em up i with Danny-boy in there.
Aiight, time for me sponge bath…

I’m looking forward to reading the recap of this game, but seriously, this is a Jekyll-Hyde team. Not cool.
Congrats to the Pens for winning this game. And thank you. We look forward to squashing your meaningless dreams after they’ve been built up by the MSM. We are also looking forward to getting our team back, thoroughly chewed out by Babs.
Posted by Osrt on 11/11/08 at 10:06 PM ET
it’s only November, yes…
But the Pens pulled it out with no Gonch, no Whits, and Crosby nowhere near 100%.
As for those whining about the officiating, don’t you have a play date with some rangers fans?
Posted by bryan on 11/11/08 at 10:25 PM ET
I can’t believe this. You guys blow a game and start blaming 1. Gary Bettman, 2. the officiating? Take your loss like the men you wish you were.
And, Dan Cleary was out. We woulda messed ‘em up i with Danny-boy in there.
Right, because Dan Cleary doesn’t suck like Pavel Datsuk. He’d have never turned that one over in OT.
Speaking of injuries, what would’ve happened if the Pens had Gonchar and Whitney?
Jokes.

I’ve never seen a comment section with more whining. Ridiculous. It is possible to lose games based on the other team drawing penalties and playing well.
Plus, the “Gary. Ass.” got old by the third one. IT should be retired immediately. I didn’t think it was possible, but the commenters here are more immature than the dbags at the Pensblog. This entire blog is about at a 7th grade level.

I’m not about to give this game to the Refs.
Wings had one sided officiating all last year and in
the playoffs, yet overcame it.
The Officials had nothing to do with
Rafalski looking like he was playing in the Special Olympics.
Babs overplaying the top two lines to the point of exhaustion.
Pittsburgh outplayed the Wings and deserved to win.
Nothing has changed much since the opener, we just weren’t
playing a team that was determined to make the Wings look good.
There were great saves at both ends of the ice, but sv% of .794, and .823 is
less than mediocre.
The Pens…6 ESG
Detroit…3 ESG
Those (-1)‘s pile up pretty fast if you’re giving up ESG and only scoring on the PP.
Datsyuk .. 1 G ..(-3)
Hossa…2 A..(-2)
Zetterberg..1G,.(-2)...7 SOG
WTF was all this great backchecking.
I tried to count the hard hitting, but lost count at 3 because there were no more.
and
The bench is sending the wrong message rewarding Macs GTG with 4:54 TOI.

7th grade? We’re out of practice. Last SCF we were at 3rd grade level.

One more point for you guys whining about the officiating.
Last year there were SHG’s.

I’m oddly inclined to agree with you, HTT. A couple of extraordinarily bad calls does not make up for them blowing a 5-2 lead. They just stopped playing and the Pen(i)s never quit.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 11/11/08 at 11:19 PM ET
This loss is all on Babcock. No one in their right mind puts Lilja and Meech out on a 5 on 4 following a goal on a 5 on 3. Anyone who doubts the need for Cheli to heal quickly only needs to look at this game.
In all honesty, the only word that can adequately describe this game is pathetic! It was a great effort by a handful of guys (Happy in particular) but a completly pathetic effort by Ozzie and the entire coaching staff.

Just caught the game on the DVR… the recording cut off before the Pens tied it up, so I only caught the final highlights online.
Why do we have so much trouble closing out the Pens???
Pens fans, settle down. This game means little to nothing.
Everyone else, step back off that ledge.
Posted by Incognetis from Delaware... Hi... I'm in... Delaware on 11/11/08 at 11:30 PM ET
Was at the game tonight, trust me I’ve never ever left the Joe with a more sick feeling after a regular season loss. Watching that collapse happen in the 3rd was beyond comprehension, let alone reason. Once it got 5-2, the Wings totally lost their intensity and focus, and it showed. That 3rd goal on the 5-on-3 really gave the Pens life and even when it was 6-4, you just knew something was going to happen, and it did with the Pens tying it up.
I’m not one to usually pick out players because you win and loss as a team, but Rafalski, Nick and Osgood were about as bad as I’ve seen them play. It’s apparent live how Raffy’s poor play is causing Nick to make poor decisions and frequently get caught out of position. Raffy’s getting beat wide and many teams are picking up on this and abusing him on it.
As for Ozzie, he’s gotta do a much better job at controlling his rebounds. Way too many easy shots were left hanging in the slot or gave him trouble tonight, as has been the case for much of the season. There were also many times tonight where he looked plain lost and was just guessing on shots. The game winner was pretty brutal, he reacted so late to the shot, the puck was already in before he had even come across.
I know it’s just a regular season game, but this game was an indictment as to how bad they’ve played thus far into the season. They can tout the record, but the GA and the PK% don’t lie, their talent has pushed them to where they are, not hard work.

I just finished the DVR game and yelling several expletives. How do you blow a 5-2 game like that? Credit to the Pens, they played hard and never stopped unlike the Wings. Staal was a monster.
What has happened to the D? Rafalski was horrible, Lidstrom was horrible. I was sick of saying “blown defensive play” in the 3rd period. Versus was praising Osgood but I just saw the same thing I’ve seen too much of this year. Really big rebounds and little control of them.
It is only regular season but the Wings still really look out of synch and I think the D is on the back of a milk carton.
The Wings had trouble last year playing a full 60 minutes but when they did play, it was with a lot better effort. Hell of a turnover by Pavel at the end. I knew when the Pens tied it up at the end of regulation what was going to happen, they put their foot on the gas and kept pressing whereas the Wings seem to let up after the got up 5-2.
Posted by hockeychic from Denver, CO on 11/12/08 at 01:20 AM ET
Really, after all the showers of praise heaped on the Wings during the summer and at the start of the season, they deserve all the ridicule that’ll most-assuredly come their way now.
Major, major props to Staal. Zetterberg losing the draw, Lidstrom losing the puck at his feet and not clearing it out, Datsyuk getting stripped and falling down. What kind of bizarro world are we living in right now?

Here it is 6:28 a.m. and I’m still shaking my head. As I have said before I can’t wait for Cheli to return. I hope he is thumping heads somewhere in the Wings locker room.

You must be new here. This is our place. This is where the 19 come to cheer and whine, kvetch and celebrate, stress and rejoice. And we do it all in as immature style as possible. Why? Because we can. You don’t like it? SFW. We freaking love it. Don’t like the things we say like “Gary. Ass.” or blaming the officiating? If you plan on sticking around, get used to it. There’s a LOT more games left and we have a lot more immaturity that we haven’t even tapped into yet.
