Uncle Mike Adams?

It must have been pretty frigging cool to be 18 in the summer of 1976 and hear Boston’s “More Than a Feeling” for the first time. I’ve decided that, despite hearing it more than 1000 times, it’s the greatest rock and roll song ever made.
Speaking of which, Eric Duhatschek feels our Uncle Mike is deserving of a little more credit.
The tendency for the players is to ask, who does this (newcomer) guy think he is anyway? Sometimes, that manifests itself in a player revolt — and a revolving door in the coaching office. Instead, the Red Wings’ players bought into what Babcock was selling.
I’m guessing Eric and Andy Strickland don’t communicate frequently.
Thanks to A2Y reader W2J2 for the tip.

Will Babbles win the Jack Adams trophy this year? I’m a fan and I certainly hope he gets it, but I would assume it goes to Ken Hitchcock if the BJs make the playoffs. Then again, I have little real knowledge of East teams so…. [insert schedule complaint here]
I do, however, feel like Babbles would is due for a bigger complement; a long tenure with this organization. The team mold, syncing with the best GM in the game, going deep in the playoffs and generally getting the best out of his players—-all reasons why he may have an Arbour-esque spot with us.
—Can you imagine his acceptance speech? Instant classic…

“Well, uh, I think that, in hockey, you need to surround yourself with good people to succeed, and, uh, in the Detroit Red Wings organization, uh, Mr. and Mrs. Ilitch have established what I like to call the ‘Harvard of Hockey,’ and, uh, when you’re surrounded by good hockey people, you can succeed.”

Still too coherent, perhaps.
I guarantee somewhere in there would be “You need to have good players, and guys that work hard and want to win. It’s all about guys who want to compete.”

oh oh…don’t forget the needless scowl during a happy occasion
I call on Chief for a MBCQOTD (future edition)...
note: must include several “real important” : we can’t have good English don’t ya know..

I respectfully disagree. “Peace of Mind” is a superior Boston song. “Peope living in competition…”

Chief: I knew there were several compelling reasons to peruse A-2-Y on a regular basis aside from the fact that it is devoted to Wing Nation; there is the juvenile humor, the throwing of barbs at the deserving, witty commentary from the crew, and as you noted above, a deep respect for outstanding Rock and Roll music!! Not sure if I would rate More Than A Feeling as the best rock song ever—but it certainly deserves top 5 all-time consideration. However, I would likely rate that album as the best ever!!! Telling my age, I wore out that VINYL album and two cassette tapes. I will also state that it is CD #1 in my six disc changer to this day!! Classic man, classic, and class never goes out of style—so it goes with the Wings too. For a bunch of “old men” they sure look fast this year, and mucking it up in the corners too. Anybody else just freaking amazed at how well they “break-out” of their own zone. I can’t remember just what game I was flipping through on Sat. night, and couldn’t help but notice just how superior the Wings are at moving the puck out of their zone with offensive purpose. Man they can really pass and consistently generate attack as opposed to dumping it out.
Jedi Master Mike—coach-o-the-year?? He certainly has them on pace with the Sens as the benchmark of the league—with grit, and talent “ON DISPLAY” (nothing against Ranger/Lightning fan). The Team went deep last year, if he repeats this year surely ought to get some serious consideration. But to note just how two-faced the MSM is on the Wings, they can, at once be too old/slow, too small, too soft, OR as Dhatshcke notes skating circles around everyone, and have the class of the league in talent scouting.

OOPS forgot, Wings fan might want to peruse George Johnson at the Calgary Herald (I think it was in Fridays edition )—with his Motzart reference—I paraphrase: The Calgary Flame can play the notes, the Wings are a symphony!!!

Symphonic indeed: that’s a great metaphor!
Ok, because there isn’t another place to post this and because I can excuse this as some kind of follow up post to my earlier one, I would like you all to watch the highlights from CBJ vs TBL. The BJs look really good, I mean scary good! And Leclaire got his 5th shutout in that game.
Zherdev, Vborny (who I liked almost instantly), Nash, Feds, Foote, Leclaire, Hitchcock: Zherdev looks a bit like Dats during some of those highlights and Nah like a bigger Zetterberg. I am genuinely impressed with this team and looking forward to the game on Friday.
I guess what I’m saying is that Hitchcock has the Bjs humming…

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. I’m guessing Strickland doesn’t communicate with anyone from this planet frequently.
