Good morning slackers.
Really earning those tax dollars today boy.

“This is where we work. This is where we live. It’s our fans, it’s our city. And we’re proud to be from Michigan and have the opportunity we do in front of our fans.”
That’s Uncle Mike. See you for the Live Blog. And we’re going with what I feel will take us home, something that has worked recently and will be used sparingly in the future. Holy hell this day is torture.

My stomach hurts but I’m wearing my Yzerman sweater all day at work today. Thank goodness for casual Fridays.
Heck yes. Got my beat up and autographed Zetterberg on.

Yes, very much useless today. I think I even forgot how to walk this morning.

For the jersey scorecard, I’m going with the Filppula Yzerman Night jersey I wore to Game Five. Hoping that luck carries on.

I have the same Yzerman t-shirt that I’ve been wearing all week. I uh .... well let’s just say it’s not smelling all that fantastic.

Sporting Vlady today, as I always do. Anyone looks at me cockeyed in black and gold today and I might throw a Vlady elbow, too.

So amid my four hours of sleep last night, I had the requisite Wings dream. In it, Oprah Winfrey was doing the post-game report with the Douche Canoe. The game-winning goal? Kronwall.
And I haven’t even started on the controlled substances yet.
Safe travels, Chief. It’ll be a Live Blog for the ages tonight.

I noticed, first off this morning that the ‘Band of Bitches’ is unusually bitchy and testy.
So much so, that I considered withdrawing my comment about the collective IQ from yesterday.
Now, I see the momentum is beginning to shift and by early afternoon I expect humor will begin to creep in as we all grasp at any distraction.
I will be skipping the live blog, having insisted that my brother join me for the game, because we have never lost a playoff game when he is here.

I’ve got my #16 Konstantinov sweater ready to put on tonite - it’s for BIG GAMES ONLY.
Also have a new good luck charm…........you know the state quarters, right? I haven’t seen a MICHIGAN quarter in several years since they were only produced in circulation from January 2004 to March 2004. I never, ever, ever go to fast food joints for lunch but had back to back meetings yesterday with no time for a real break.
Get this…...my change from Wendy’s was one single quarter and when I looked at the back it is a state of MI quarter. That’s a motherf**cking omen right there.
I haven’t let it out of my sight since noon yesterday and it’s in my pocket as I type this.

I just came back from a 2 week trip to MI with family for parents 50th. Have not read much of the 19 for therapy as I usually do. So the last 2 weeks were torture.
I see some of the 19 seem to be in hiding or back in the Hasek somewhere. Hope everyone is coping the best they can. I honestly cannot function to well at work today. Thanks Chief for that previous post. That did a lot to calm my nerves. Ha Ha.
We of coarse cannot control the outcome tonite. If things were right in the world though, we will win this thing for Michigan, Hossa, Ozzie’s Con Smythe, and to cement the dynasty. It is good this will be on such a national stage on a Friday nite, prime time. It is good for hockey.
And they also need this thing because one of my little guy’s understands hockey for the first time this year. I promised him Grandma will get him a championship t-shirt and send it from MI to him. If he does not get it, he will be really upset.
One more quick story. I was at the Grand Hotel last week on Mackinac Island. Probably the one and only time I ever will be. Game 5 was on. I had to watch the game at a hotel bar. Of coarse suit and tie required after 6 pm. Not my style, but ok. Pittsburgh fans were also present. I was talking with the bartender ( also a Wings fan), she told me if I wanted to they would waive the dress code and I could go change and put my Yzerman jersey on. She said she would speak to the dress code police. So I did. Did not care if a few folks looked at me strangely. And best of all, it pissed off those few Penquins fans present. Of coarse, I also threw out a few Gary’s baby boy comments.
1 to 12 bitches. Is that gay?? I know I’m not.

HTT,
Have my red Wings earrings in. Yzerman sweater. Underneath is the Stanley Cup winning t-shirt from last year. Have my red shoes with a white swril on them (no their not Nike). Drank coffee from my Yzerman mug this morning.
I’m still holding on to the fact that I dreamed I won tickets to Game 7 on Tuesday night and that has to mean something. I never dream about hockey which is bizarre considering how much I watch.

Baroque - I posted this on the last post, but regarding the 1000+ books, we are natural roommates. Unfortunately, the “rooms” would be made of books. And we all know about the dangers of having tempting piles of kindling laying around in the playoffs.

John, I’d go through the same thing, rehabbing time and all, if it meant a win tonight, because a loss would be more painful.
Still, I think next season the Joe crowd should chant ‘Nutpuncher!’ every time Sharp touches the puck at a Hawks road game.

Really earning those tax dollars today boy.
No kidding. My fellow students are paying me to sit at a desk and spam F5 all day. I wonder how they’d feel about that.
And no, tonight is not going to be “fun.” Not until Norris Nick and Chris “But He’s Not Elite” Osgood are skating around JLA with the Cup in their hands.
I don’t even know what I’m going to drink tonight. The tequila seems to have lost its mojo. Beer—at least the beer I have on hand—is out of the question. This is going to require quite a bit of careful thought on my part. Much of it occurring on the clock, no doubt.

@ MarkK -
I like to watch those home redo shows sometimes (despite the fact that it makes me feel pathetically inadequate as a housekeeper), and in one of them they were talking about how properly to decorate shelves, and this “rule of thirds.” Shelves should have 1/3 books, 1/3 knickknacks, and 1/3 empty space.
W
T
F
In my view, when there is empty space on the shelf it’s time to get more books! And if you put books the same height next to each other, you can stack larger books flat on top of them - and if the shelf is deep enough, you can double-stack paperbacks with the front row far enough forward so you can see the titles in the back, too. And for overflow storage, the ever-faithful plastic crates that I hauled around to college can’t be beat. Although you do have to set them far enough out of the way to avoid stubbed toes.
I love books. The feel of the crisp crackle of a new spine opening in my hands. the paper smell of a fresh page, how perfectly a book fits on my knees when I curl up on the couch on a rainy day, even the way my fingers start to tingle when the stack in my left arm starts to cut off all blood flow to my hand ... you can’t get that from a reading device.
/sigh

Actually I am pretty productive so far today despite reading every damned word here so far. Then again, I didn’t sleep past 4 am, so I was at work before 7 bells this morning.
Productivity will decline after lunch as lunch today includes a big beer and a stop at the beer store on the way back to work. Nice sunny day here in KC I have a feeling the last 2 or so hours of the day are to be spent outside with a beer in one hand and a tennis ball in the other….no not a stress ball…. I am fortunate enough to be able to bring my dog to work with me.

Stuff enough books on each shelf to support the one above it so they don’t sag.
If you ever had someone custom make you some book shelves (ever get that coffee table?? Or the nieces and nephews toys still first in line?), the empty shelves would weigh a ton before you loaded them up and not sure the floor could carry the load.

Seriously, I’ve obviously never heard of this. There is a winding stack of books, stacked on top of an old “Dell” box that is roughly 9 cubic completely filled and roughly 3 metric tons, obstructing the view of an overflowing bookcase, one of four in what is essentially still my college apartment. I used to have a few fossils I found in the local gorges on that particular bookcase, “knickknacks” if you will, that have since been completely enveloped. I’ll find them when I move out next month. Maybe.

I’m a Caps fan, and even I can’t stand working today in anticipation of Game 7. I hate the Pens with every fiber of my hockey heart, so Detroit—do it for those of us who’ve suffered through the league’s mandate that Crosby and Co. are the Chosen Ones. Do it for those of us who truly love the game for its purity, skill and ass-busting work ethic, and not for how much you cry to the refs. Do it because, no matter who I root for, the Wings are still the best damn team in hockey.
Beat. Them. Down.

I even have notes saved from college (and I graduated in 1992) because I took my notes on loose-leaf paper in ring binders, so I could punch holes in handouts and returned papers and quizzes and put them after the relevant notes for that date. Who knows, at some point it might be important to know what I wrote in a paper for my philosophy of science class sophomore year, or exactly how I constructed a respiratory system on the report of an alien life-form for invertebrate biology.
I CAN’T recycle them. I just CAN’T.
(Sometimes I’ve even bought books because I knew they would fill in a gap on a shelf where my books kept falling over because there were just a couple inches left open. God, I’m a pathetic book whore.)
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 06/12/09 at 10:54 AM ET
I love books too. No electronic reading device will ever replace a book for me. Since I have had to move so many times over the past few years, I have tried to make a practice of getting rid of books (which is really painful). My sister is always on my case to use the library but if I really love a book, I want to own it. I’m strange that way. You never know when you might want to read it again. Plus, a house full of books is comforting to me. I know I can always find something to read. Even though I have pared down my collection, people still come over and say, “Wow, you have a lot of books.”

Right Winger,
You hit on something there: those fans who’d love to see Detroit dethroned should think about how much Crosby and the Pens will be hyped all season should they win. If the marketing was overdone after they lost, image what it’d be like if they win. If Detroit wins, the League will just offer a couple nods, and go back to a similar level of Crosby Blitz. Bad, but not so bad as we’d get otherwise.
There are plenty of people who hate both the Wings and Crosby, but I hope those folks who have tht perspective can see Detroit as the lesser of two evils.
